The Vancouver Recital Society's Founder & Artistic Director, Leila Getz, speaks to pianist and composer Jean-Sélim Abdelmoula.
Swiss-born pianist and composer Jean-Sélim Abdelmoula enjoys a busy and varied musical life. His teachers have included Ronan O’Hora, Sir András Schiff, Ferenc Rados and Jorg Widmann, and his awards include the Edvard Grieg International Composer Competition, the Guildhall Wigmore Prize, and the Lili Boulanger Memorial Fund Award. He has performed around the world both as a soloist and chamber musician, and the VRS is delighted to present him in his Vancouver debut.
Leila and Jean-Sélim discuss his composition process, his life as a pianist, and his time as a student at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. They also chat about his work bringing music into the heart of the community in schools, hospitals or retirement homes, playing his 88-key electric keyboard which he carries as a backpack.
Jean-Sélim Abdelmoula will perform at the Vancouver Playhouse on Sunday, October 15, 2023. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here: vanrecital.com/concert/jean-s...
