The Vancouver Recital Society's Founder & Artistic Director, Leila Getz, speaks to Kirsten Dawes, Head of Artistic Planning & Production at the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin. The Pierre Boulez Saal opened in March 2017 and features an elliptical shape designed to bring artists and audiences closer together. Kirsten and her team program approximately 150 concerts per year for the hall, with music ranging from classical and romantic to new and contemporary. Kirsten and Leila discuss their shared South African roots, how to make song recitals more accessible for audiences, what it's like to program a concert season, and what makes the Pierre Boulez Saal unique among the world's greatest concert halls.
