I might have been impatient, but I believe it was totally worth it! Watch as I take my Fortuner in to get a brand new set of BF Goodrich KO2's T/Aput on. I also give a bit of reason as to why I decided to go with BFG and also increase the tyres size. I am also giving some feedback on the tyres I am replacing.

Good tyres those, I'm almost done with my set, dream on sand, tough side wall for rocks. Look you pay for piece of mind, if you have BF KO2 you don't worry about tyres. Cool video, Thanks.

I will be watching with interests Henk. Please keep us posted here and on the forum as to your impressions and experience with them. I was just looking at my data table. The sidewall bulge for the BF at 2.4 bar is 17mm but 20mm for the GY. At 1.2 bar its 21mm compared to24 for the GY. So that shows the difference in the sidewall construction. The good news is in the Footprint Length. At 2.4 bar the BF = 24.6, the GY = 21.3. At 1.6 bar the BF = 26.7, the GY = 24.4. At 0.8 bar, the GY = 29.8 and the BF = 28.5, probably due to the stiffer sidewall on the BF. It looks like a better performing tyre all round. Looks good too. Thanks for the vids

Thanks Sean, will definitely be doing a more formal review once I have used them for a while. Want to do a couple of trails, normal driving as well as a family weekend (towing) trip to get an overall view of them. At this stage I am happy (maybe because they look good as well).
@4WheelingSA
@4WheelingSA 4 года назад
Thanks for the updated comments! I should then gain a bit more since I am going up one size. The side walls of the GY were also much softer on feel. Could easily push it in when of the rim. The BFG much less.

Yes, you can see in the Spookspruit video. Flex will be less on the bfg, but I must say, they dont drive harder at all. Even at 2.5 bar...

Hi Henk, my stock tire size is 265/60R18. Is it ok if I use this BFG 285/60R18? Will an increase of 20mm on the width be a problem in the long run? Please advise. Thanks!
@4WheelingSA
@4WheelingSA 3 года назад
Hi Ethans. Do you have a suspension lift? I suspect that it might touch somewhere. Best will be to get to a fitment centre and test it on a wheel. Turning etc. Thus far I have not had any problems. Actually working on a follow up video.

Hi Henk. Did you consider the Dunlop AT3G. I find them to be excellent on any offroad terrein and good on a gravel road. They are a bit more affordable then the KO2s as well.

Christo Meyer also hoping to give feedback on rough terrain. Did some gravel roads and 2 spoor tracks this weekend. Feels as if it handles it better.

Why EMU and not Amada Extreme? Why only 35mm and not 40mm or even 50mm. Many questions Mr Bogaards? Let us know.
@4WheelingSA
@4WheelingSA 3 года назад
I went for OME as this was what the dealership could install. It was easier... Instead of having to go to different fitment places. I also think OME is conservative, but this is beneficial to your other components, when you lift a lot of angles change. In the end the lowest point still remains the rear differential. A suspension lift also does more than lifting the vehicle, it gives you stiffer suspension - therefore less nose dive for a IFS. At this stage I am happy with OME. They are a popular brand in SA.
@Afriqueleblanq
@Afriqueleblanq Год назад
Careful with stiffer suspension. Much care is taken in designing a chassis, considering the strength of materials, to allow for a certain level of flexing. Stiffer suspension may counter that and result in broken chassis. LC 70 series, Hilux, Triton, and other top brands all experienced this. Ditto the many D4D engine replacements, due to clever owners adding 2SO to modern high pressure Diesel engines. Best is to leave a vehicle standard. I used to build offroad rally cars, stock racing cars, etc, and I have seen much over a career period of fifty-odd years. I come from the era of Jack Holloway, Koos Swanepoel, Serge Damseaux and the like. Nothing beats sometimes expensive experience. Just today watched a video of a gent that had to pay R245,000 (🇿🇦South African Rand) in repairs to his TLC200. Mostly add-ons that either failed or caused other components to fail. Manufacturers spend millions of $$$ in testing and fine tuning; now you want to improve on that with a $1000 kit? Think again. One of the top 4x4 gurus, an automotive engineer from South Africa 🇿🇦, agrees with me.
@Afriqueleblanq
@Afriqueleblanq Год назад
A lift kit only lifts the body, not the vehicle. You gain zero ground clearance. For that, install either portal axles or larger diameter wheels - the only way to increase ground clearance. A lift kit won't raise your truck's diff with even 1mm.

how was the handling when ung change to A/T? was it more lighter in handling?
@4WheelingSA

I had AT tyres before, therefore did not really notice much in terms of resistance. what I have noticed was that it was handling speedbumps better (because they bump is now smaller in relationship to the tyre).

What tyre pressure do you run for day to day on tar driving? I am 5000km in and have been running at 2.2bar but my consumption has dropped by 0.5km/L. Should I increase to 2.4?
@4WheelingSA
@4WheelingSA 2 года назад
Hi Brent. My tyres pressure is 2.5 Bar. Unfortunately the drop in consumption is about par. I have seen the same. It is a heavier tyre. You can check out the follow-up video (10,000 km review) I did as well. Higher pressure (especially on tar) is beneficial for the tyre life since it does allow the tyres to run cooler.
