I am glad you bring the using a casting and retrieving hand up. I have never understood having to switch hands. A couple buddies have witnessed how effective it can be, especially when bass hit a top water immediately as it touches the water, and switched over too. It just always seemed to make sense to me as a kid, so that's how I started fishing.

Correct and Amen. Since I have only been fishing almost seventy years I finally got my head straight and everything I buy is left hand crank right handed cast. Hey just like Spinning, why the stickyness of those stuck on a right hand crank is pure stupidity to me. By the way, learn where the Eddy effect is and put those handles down on a cast and thumb the rim of the spool with edge of they thumb against the line. You'll learn to love it. If I ain't too old neither are you. CUONO.

I realize this BFS stuff is pretty cool. It means we can fish from 15 lb fish down to 1/3rd lb fish in the way we are FAMILIAR with fishing. Its actually pretty cool. Thanks for this video!

Something I never understood is the switching hands to cast. I am right handed so I cast and hold the rod with the right and wind the reel with the left hand. Suppose old school folks didn't have the option of left hand retrieve baitcasters

I’ve always wondered the same thing. Yet when they use a spinning combo they cast with their right and reel with their left. Makes no sense why they switch hands with baitcasters.

One of the best vids you’ve ever made the info was great the products displayed were wonderful I love bfs fishing I learned about it for trout fishing in streams but have used it for bass,bluegill,crappie and perch and you showed how much more fun/exciting than regular gear can leave you wanting

I really don’t get the whole bfs stuff. I’ve been fishing my entire life for trout (40 years) and my family (ie. grandfathers, dad, mom ect.) have been doing the same for there entire lives. I have lures from the 50’s and 60’s that my dad learned with and it’s the exact same thing. Now why would I spend $500 plus dollars for just a rod or reel for a new set up when I’ve been fishing with a $100 - $200 max set up with 6-10 lb Mono/Fluorocarbon/Braid on a ultra light, light or med light rod my entire life? I’ve caught everything from pike, large mouth, small mouth, bluegill and trout with same exact thing. I don’t get it. 🤦🏼🙄 I guess nobody knew that everyone else has been already doing this for years or something. 🤷🏼‍♂️

That was awesome guys!! really well done with that little BFS series, I love how it's really taking off now in a veriety of different forms. We refer to ultra light lure fishing here in the UK in saltwater as LRF but all generally very similar and as you mentioned catches all species of predatory fish anywhere... Congrats on landing that big Bass man that video couldn't have gone any better for demonstrating the fun and effectiveness of this stuff 👍

I’ve started using bfs in the uk 🇬🇧 it’s really taken off over here great fun , I use a light titainium trace on my outfit lots of pike in my local river , so I have to guard against bite offs , the trace wire is thin material dosent put the chub or perch off ,, I use 6 lb test Cahira nitinol wire which you can tie with a 3 turn blood knot, I use 8 lb braid , the rod has a 1 - 5 gram casting weight, biggest fish I’ve caught so far is a 7lb 8 ounce pike

Another good reason for casting a baitcaster with the spool facing the side is the wrist works more effectively with a wider range of motion. It just feels more natural allowing for more consistent and smoother casts. Aiming is a bit easier too that way. Casting with the spool facing upright, you're limited to the range of motion your wrist has going from side to side. Switching the spool sideways makes you use the full up and down range of motion in your wrist. I was pleasantly surprised to find out you guys are in AZ. I'll be in sometime soon hopefully to get my BFS setup.

what I found that good lures 1/8 Crazy Crawler Hawaiian wiggle in 1/8 oz all ultra lite lures are pretty much the same bought I Crawler out of China in a 1/8 oz it had rubber wings did not perform like the original Crazy Crawler there are not many top water baits out their another thing gear is to expensive for what it is and I don't see the point I have ultra lite lures my spinning ultra lite rod and reel works just fine I paid about $110.00 I also see you never trout fished !!!!!!!

Your dominant hand has quicker reaction time, and is more sensitive. So more hook sets and bite feeling with your dominant hand. Right handed reel with left Left handed reel with right

You just fishing for bass, I live in Puerto Rico,we have tarpon and snook in our freshwater,i use a ultralight set up for them and if you think bass is fun try a 20 pound tarpon on a small creek now that's what I call a handful

Nice video! It's a blast fishing BFS and catching all-size fish, but the big ones really get the adrenaline pumping. And I totally agree as a right-hander, I cast all types of rods with my right hand and reel with my left.

Love your channel great JDM content and now finally bfs. I am fishing a long time bfs in the Netherlands for big ass perch and nothing beats the feeling of a big fish on light gear. Favorite lure is the DUO REALIS ROZANTE 63 SP you should give it a try.

And the best part? In 2021 you can see if BFS is for you for under 150$. Try a GH100, get some cheap hybrid ceramic bearings also get some cheap rod from Ali. Then decide if you want to invest in a setup like Daiwa, Shimano, Megabass etc.

I had the same MB Criffhanger paired with Steez Ltd 21. 3g SP throw about 20-25m and had pull barra 2.5 kg on 20 lbs test braid on it. Now thinking of getting another extra spool to put 6 lbs line on. Do you think i should go with another SV Boost or wait for a shallow BFS spool, Roro? Will full ceramics or hybrid bearing help over stock?

I can’t wait for the release of the Shimano SLX BFS over in Japan so I can order that. I can see Diawa has great bfs reels but dang the pricey. I think the SLX will bring a quality affordable reel to most people, no offense to the Ali express guys, that could really supercharge things in the states.

I was so totally impressed with the handles up (down) preferences. Also note Eddy effect of the magnets is totally different from a horizontal spool than a vertical spool against the earths magnetism flow. Wished you would have stayed with it throughout the broadcast as well. None the less a few will be helped, God Bless.

I've never understood why people swap hands after casting. That's something that never crossed my mind to try, yet when I started watching RU-vid videos, it seems very common. I'm a lefty, so I throw with my left hand, and continue to hold the rod in that hand so I have better control, and reel with my right. That's always felt natural to me. I can't wrap my head around swapping hands.

I’ve been fishing my small rivers with an ungly stick and a castking zephyr. I love the zephyr but I can tell that I need a better rod. I just purchased my first Megabass from you. I have never spent this much on a rod. I hope it lives up to the hype. I really want that Diawa real but it is way out of my price range, wish y’all had a lay away plan. 2 Recommendations if I may, instead of pliers I use Forceps, and no knot fas snaps from the fly fishing world. I've been using them for years on my ul spinning gear.

I gotta say the Destroyer P5 Cliffhanger Thrilling I bought from you guys is amazing. So I just wanted to give you guys a big thank you. I own 2 NRXs and I was hoping to get that level of sensitivity out of a BFS rod for throwing small swimbaits and micro neds. This rod weighs nothing and that sensitivity is next level. I got my insulated waders in so I've been having a blast fishing this rod in the creek. I think it's so awesome you guys are covering this amazing technique. I've been BFS fishing for a few years now and I love it just as much as frogging in the pads for giants.

Seeing the pros just rangle in bass like its nothing is cool and even for myself its always fun but i really want to see these bass pros land their 5# hogs on a BFS setup. Like you said, everything needs to bend, bet you more than half would lose the fish.

I love it. People catch 200 lbs tuna on 30 lbs drag reels and gear so ~7x ratio means (theoretically) you could catch a 20lbs bass on 3lbs gear. There's a severe distinction between landing bass and trout though. 2 lbs trout doesn't fight anything close to 2 lbs bass.

Personally I take the split ring off of hard baits and use a snap. Sometimes I’m too lazy and leave the split ring. Never noticed a difference, be it a dive 48, duo ryuki, lucky craft pointer 48 or any small crank baits.

Thank you for making this video. BFS was kind of a"but why?!?!" for me. But, I fished with a friend who insists on fishing with lighter spinning gear even on big lakes. He says he likes the fight on lighter gear. I just don't really like using spinning gear too much. Your video really kind of helped it make sense to me. Can't believe you pulled that big bass out of that bush. Congrats!!

I allways remove the split ring from the hardlures and use a decoy round snap size 000. Works realy good.

I know people thought I was crazy for throwing little jerk baits and using inline spinners at these pressured ponds, but you are right that using the right rod makes it a ton of fun catching them even when they are small. By the way I do that on a crappy 30 dollars trout rod I got from bass pro 6 years ago. It’s sad to say but I’ve caught more fish on that rod then my 200 and 400 dollar rods lol. I never lose fish on that rod either, it has so much give in the rod and it allows me to really launch those tiny baits out.

For years I have been trying to get small baits for River Smallies. The JDM brands have always had more lures in the 65mm range. It is awesome to have more of these small offerings and a shop that is bringing them to the US market. I just bought that sling pack, JDM lures in a JDM bag awesome.

I gotta say though the BFS setups your using are crazy expensive. I can have the same "adventure" with my cheap ultralight spinning setup for a quarter of the price. But I bet if this trend continues there will be much cheaper BFS setups in the pipeline.

Best description of what BFS is all about on RU-vid! Great overview of the gear and techniques with some excellent tips thrown for bonus. I come from ultralight spinning for trout to using BFS gear. Definitely interested in trying BFS on bass in streams now! Your video really got me excited to get out there.

I started cast right hand and retrieve left like you should l. But I actually switched to right hand retrieve for the sake of my shoulder so I had to switch. But I’ve learned to switch hands before the bait hits the water

Great video and great channel. Any thoughts about getting into this kind of fishing as a beginner? This looks really fun but my sole fishing experience has been salt fishing once or twice a year with my spinner and I hear bait-casters can be frustrating. Also curious about how you compare this to fly fishing as you mentioned you were a fly guide.

I just ordered my first BFS setup. I cant wait to take it to a pressured lake I fish that has a lot of overhanging trees and snags. I've always preferred casting gear so I'm stoked to be able to finesse fish this way. I think it's very sporting using light tackle to catch both large and small fish.
