It gets used all of the time, just doesn't need both trucks for most work (there are two lifting parts that together can life 510 tons, which is what the rotor of one of the units weighs.) This crane was also once used to put someone's car on top of a crate when they disobeyed a no parking sign...
The Gantry Crane was manufactured by Pasco. Main hook is rated 510 ton, tested at 620 ton, sister hook 300 ton, runs on 175# crane rail. Assembly by Carpenter Rigging, Syracuse NY, GC Perini Corp/G.H. Ball, a Joint Venture. The crane components were shipped via rail from CA and off loaded at Gilboa siding and by trucked to site. I was there, amazing piece of equipment.
DN Zh the bridge cannot handle the weight of the load. therefore she had to make her own bridge. as you could see, they had put a block at the end and between heavy metal plates. if you look closely you can see that there is a space under these plates. what they actually did is build a bridge over a bridge
The road bridge was not capable to support that load so they used the temporary bridge that transferred to load to the same bridge abutments but without overloading the bridge deck.
