Namaste Friends,
Bhaja Caves is a group of 22 rock-cut caves dating back to the 2nd century BC located in the city of Pune, India. The caves are 400 feet above the village of Bhaja, on an important ancient trade route running from the Arabian Sea eastward into the Deccan Plateau (the division between North India and South India). The inscriptions and the cave temple are protected as a Monument of National Importance, by the Archaeological Survey of India. It belongs to the Early Buddhist schools in Maharashtra. The caves have a number of stupas, one of their significant features. The most prominent excavation is its chaitya (or chaityagrha - Cave XII), a good example of the early development of this form from wooden architecture, with a vaulted horseshoe ceiling. Its vihara (Cave XVIII) has a pillared verandah in front and is adorned with unique reliefs. These caves are notable for their indications of the awareness of wooden architecture. The carvings prove that tabla - a percussion instrument.
Thank you for watching :)

Note: As we Indian citizens have opined that the one piece horizontal drum pakhawaj was split by culturist Amir Khusroo to invent 'upright' tabla (name derived from Arabian war-fare drum, tabl). Actually, Indian drums were horizontal one piece treble-bass. Carnatic music came from original Indians/Saotal-Tribe (Bollywood, 1978 Kraftwerk). The mrid/terracotta-angam/body Carnatic is actually a wooden drum. But courtesy wise they were not frauds, but declared that we Dravids. have learnt sur-taal from Saotals, hence did not change the name of their drum, present madol/clay drum. Now, from Carnatic, Vedic music came, and from Vedic, regional/folk/palli sur-taal, eg, Bangla Baul, Asomia folk/haiya ho-hei dola/Dr.Bhupen Hazarika/M.A., Harvard. Regis/sand-sthan/land ~ Rajasthan ha-ra-ra/Mrs.Ila Arun,...the horizontal drums strokes difficult to "watch & learn",- pakhawaj thus split by Buddhist monks (don't forget Dev's Nepal + Manipur Christians' exploits), and by polishing 'regional' folks, 1/4 'National' music was discovered thus!!! Proof: In 200BCe, the Bombai 22 Bhaja caves carvings-pair/one woman playing upright drums "with hands", not with sticks like nakkara, whereas a closeby woman is seen dancing in kathak-posture! But that's introduction-national/right after Mughal invasion, the Rajasthan sarangi was still a folk. Mughals later adapted Buddhists to discover 1/2 more sur-taal like lalit, brindabani saarang; concluding with balance 1/4 khayal, and detailed most thumris. Calcutta, India, share 'Kraft' globally plz.❤❤
