Thanks the studio for presenting. We are lucky to see how our ancestors performed dance some yrs back when the king's were Ruling. It is very much appreciating.
absolutely beautiful. love the fluidity of this pure dance. it is very similar to odissi with its continuous flow, tri bhang, chowk. she has researched sooo much, its a delight to watch this video. thank you for this wonderful piece of video..
when most dancers today dance to show how much they ve learned onlly few like Padma ji have the Audience's entertainment in their mind.....wud love to see ur live performance someday madam
When Padma-ji first presented her dance style based on her extensive research into the origins of the Karanas at Chidambaram/Thanjavur etc it was felt by the authorities that it couldn't be called BN as that system of dancing was already settled. So it had to be called Bharatanrityam although Padma-ji had BN training before her great work. Nick
Thanks for this post. Wonderful performance by this great danseuse. Is there any particular reason why this video is titled "Bharatanrityam" rather than the standard term "Bharatanatyam"? I'm not sure where it will turn up if someone does a search on Bharatanatyam.
Actually it wasn't western culture that introduced ANYTHING to BN or Sadir as it was called. Great pioneers such as E Krishna Iyer & Srimati Rukmini Arundale cleaned it up a little to make it more acceptable to Indian society & then it could spread & be learned again by the masses. Nick
