When it comes to Bhutanese food, ezay, which is any kind of Bhutanese chili sauce, is something I learned to love from my first day in Bhutan. Every Bhutanese makes their own version of ezay, using a selection of different ingredients. Not two ezays are the same. At Aum Leki Wangmo Farmhouse, the mother there made some amazing Bhutanese chili sauce and I had a chance to watch her make it. Dry chilies, oil, sichuan pepper, tree tomato, ginger, salt, and cheese were a few of the main ingredients she added to her recipe.
Kuenphen Restaurant - On the drive from Punakha to Phobjikha Valley, we stopped for lunch along the bumpy and beautiful road. We ordered shakam datshi, sikam datshi and chilly chicken. The food was alright, but not as good at the home cooked Bhutanese food at home stays in Bhutan. Total price - 640 BTN ($9.60)
Phobjikha Valley - Phobjikha Valley is one of the most beautiful places to visit when you travel to Bhutan. It’s a secluded valley, high in the mountains. We checked into Pasang Zangmo Farmstay. The aunty and her family here were awesome, and she’s known for her cooking throughout all of Phobjikha Valley. I loved walking around their house, exploring the area and seeing black necked cranes (which migrate from Tibet). Our Bhutanese food dinner was delicious.
Disclosure:
It was an honor to be invited by MyBhutan to visit Bhutan to explore Bhutanese food and culture. Thank you to MyBhutan Productions for making my trip and this video possible!

I know everyone is commenting about how the food is the same everyday. I really enjoy this series tho, for someone who has eaten probably way more varieties of food then many of us here (talking about Mark), seeing him enjoying simple fare and learning from their culture without scrutinizing really makes me respect him. Keep up the good work Mark, loving your videos and pictures!

This channel isn't only about food, it's also about travel and seeing more about the world's most interesting cultures.nthis way even if we don't get to travel physically, we can still experience it the way Mark does. It's refreshing to see Mark eat simple food the way locals prepare, eat and enjoy the food. Thanks for the videos Mark keep em coming!

Wow, love watching your Bhutan clips, it does brings back good old memories, and i have never seen red rice anywhere else apart from those region, i was born and bred in the foothills of the himalayas. I can understand bits of bhutanese, assamese(Assam), very well in khasis(Meghalaya)and a very small portion of naga(Nagaland) and very fluent in brazilian portuguese. The most thing i love about your food travelling is your attitude and respect for others people cultures. Big respect and have a very good day!!

Bhutan is so peaceful. The people make due with what they have like dried beef, pork, chicken, yak and whatever vegetable that they can gather or grow. (as a child we had just enought)but you always bring us a deep peek into families that truly live off the land and make uses of every drop of food (lucky cat)every grain. these videos remind me of a camping trip. there's also so much more in these besides food...i love it. really shows how earthly Bhutan is. You can eat the same thing every day somewhere different every time and it'll always be a little different with places like this. nothing is manufactured for replication, it all has a personal touch on it.
