For me this was the most anticipated match of the year, both gave it all and I see a bright future for both of them. Hopefully they can give the WTA the boost it desperately needs 🔥 congrats to the humble Osaka!
Saaame. I can't really say the most anticipated, but it's right up there for me. We had quite a few Rafa, Roger and Novak match ups this year as well. But it's right up there.
Saurabh Chakrabarty I meant the most anticipated in the WTA (along with serena v andreescu and osaka v serena, both of which were kinda disappointing). On the ATP tour it had to be Djokovic v Federer and Nadal v Federer at Wimbledon 🤯
@@rubenvannijnatten this is not a grand slam so the value is automatically diminished - hence when Serena beat Osaka the media was quiet. hopefully, they will meet at the AO.
Deus Ex Machina i dont really care if this was a slam or not, we got some interesting matchups at grandslams but they almost all ended in a disappointment, so im already happy that this matchup happened and ended up in an amazing match.
Actually there quite a few interesting other young players. Bencic , Vondrousova, Anisimova, Sabalenka to name a few. Infact the current world no 1 Barty is also just 23. So I think she also has a few more grand slams under her. Infact the last few years we are getting quite a few new GS winners. Women's tennis is so unpredictable unlike the men's game. All I can say is let's wait and watch
What a way to start possibly the best rivalry of this decade! So happy and relieved for Naomi as a BIG fan of hers. And what a fight from Bibi. A big thanks to these two amazing athletes for this amazing treat! More to come!!
Yeah, I really wanted Bianca getting a head start as I think it would have given her a psychological advantage in future matches, but she seems to be level headed to not develop a Naomi complex. BTW, Osaka is the only player in the world now to have a positive record against Bianca.
@@trespasser121 I think Naomi has more chances of developing a mental block against Bianca rather than Bianca developing one against Naomi. I mean, look at Naomi against Bencic, she just can't find her A game against Belinda it seems. I do believe there is a tactical and mental halt in that match up.
Totally agree with Saurabh Chakrabarty. Naomi is the one prone to getting negative and overthinking things. She’s more fragile. Bianca’s mentality is like a brick wall. It’s one of her best assets that allowed her to go on a 17-match winning streak including winning the USO
Saurabh Chakrabarty I hope that this match helps Naomi figure out her Belinda problem. Although Bencic takes the ball earlier than Bianca so it’s tricky
Now THIS is a rivalry to watch. Lived up to expectations after months of waiting for these young potential greats to clash. Both went in with winning streaks and something had to give. Osaka resurrected from the ashes of this roller coaster season. And reminiscent of Serena and Kvitova, at their best, Naomi & Bianca are nearly unstoppable. 🔥 🔥 🔥
I'm so so happy for Naomi. The fact that she was down that first set and managed to tie at 5 all and not manage to get frustrated is a huge improvement on her mental game. I think that's what has been bringing her out of her slump. Andreescu, as usual, fearless against any opponent. Has always been mentally tough and has a great mindset. This is how a real rivalry is formed, folks. Not that Serena-Sharapova thing hahaha 😂
Exactly, the best display from Naomi in this match was her mental resolve to stay positive and fight till the end. We all know she’s got the game but the mental side faltered at times. Hopefully this trend continues for Naomi
Serena & Sharapova are the reason its still brings people back. There no comparison to Serena and all that she has had to endure and still remain the Champion she is. She been a catalyst for the change in a game of tradition & racism. These player are in her dreams for a new world of tennis. Lets enjoy the game and each other🙋🏾♀️
@@eyecan8 To those that have respect and love for the game. Thank you you for your comment. I just love tennis period. Serena is a goddess to me. But I'm not lost to these young ladies who are very deserving of all their accomplishments. I salute them.
Osaka is incredible! I love the way at the end she sat down, cheered a little bit and told her inner mind:" I knew I would win but wow this match is tough" lol
Naomi's mental strength is unbelievable, coming from a set and a break down. She didn't falter after that wrong challenge in the 2nd match point and kept her focus laser locked. Congrats to Bianca too. She played absolutely amazing, just couldn't quite catch up to Naomi in the end. Terrific tennis from both of them. Hope to see more of them in the future 😊😊😊
What happened to all the hate for naomi after she fired her coach. All you 2 faced fans. Naomi is a top 10 player she's going to be a great player for many years to come.
Totally agree. It’s so nice to see her playing well with her dad helping her out again. She got so much hate after sacking sascha, as if it’s all about the coach that she got her success, I mean, look at mledenovic now lol
It's not that she fired her coach it was the disrespect behind it. She said that he really didn't do anything basically that she already knew. That was disrespectful to say to someone who has helped you
Yeah .. It’s been a long long time I seen such a tight match in woman’s tennis . I would say Serena’s era is most boring era because of her domination over her opponent. Who would want to see women’s tennis if Serena beats her opponent in Grandslam finals in 6-1 ,6-2 like that . I could see this pair will bring back more crowd to Women’s tennis .
Bianca was 8-0 against top ten player this year, finally someone put a stop to her streak and those 17 match winning streak. This is huge for naomi to take down a player whose on the rise
Wow! What an incredible match! Even though I was routing for Naomi I really thought Bianca would outplay her! What fight from Osaka. I think this is the most important victory of her career so far & the start of what will be the greatest rivalry of the next decade!
@@adao2103 I would say it is had it not been for all that Serena and umpire thing. I feel like her Australian Open finals match against Kvitova was a validation that she did it because of her own skills.
This match lived up to the expectation. Some of those points were brutal and some of them were other worldly! Amazing from both of them. Well done Osaka for coming out on top.
Surprised to see all the positive comments here especially for Naomi... some of you were the same people that were throwing insults at her when she was losing and blamed her for firing her coach. She’s started winning and now she’s the future of tennis... please.
Or may be we should also learn to appreciate every game style which makes this sport unique. And I am a Huge Venus and Naomi fan. But I loved Kerber vs Halep AO 2018. Or Halep vs Wozniacki AO 2018. Or Elina vs Wozniacki Singapore 2018. Halep vs Svitolina Doha 2019 and so on.
Tennis is not only about ball bashing.tricks, defense is very important.the player who maintains the best balance between offense and defense these days is wozniacki.she has definitely improved on offensive side.
@@9848856050 I disagree. With Caroline, (I love her) but I feel now her defense is not that great anymore. And her attack is not that impactful. Serve is so so. I wish her the best but I feel she is not great in either atm. For me, the players who maintain the best balance between attack and defence are Bianca, Ashleigh and Simona.
Women's tennis is so inspirational! Never give up no matter how bad it gets! I love seeing these ladies fight back when they're down! Just amazing! #teamosaka
Hands down for both players, I love the fearless from both, so focus and good attitude. Such a great match. Hope Osaka will win this tournament, rooting for you girl, you are a champ!!💪
Man watching these two then with iga climbing up the ranks as well as other young players like sofia, rybakina etc the future of women's tennis will be a lot interesting.
Sheh Shi Hmm, well you must be biased and not be looking at facts because wasn’t she just the finalist at this year’s Wimbledon AND US Open? Also a finalist at the Roger final too...come again lmfaooo
Andreescu was invited to play at the WTA Finals after her Mertens win. And Osaka just got invited today after beating Andreescu. So yes they will meet again to play and revenge one another in 3 weeks.
Man oh man! Two of my favorite favorites playing each other. What a match up. Awsome playing by both of them. One of the many times we will see them battle it out.
nice to have two classy champions share the court...no tantrums...no berating officials....no animal noises... no falling all over the place...no histrionics...just excellence and class! thanks ladies!
What an incredible match. This felt like a final and I can only hope to watch more tennis like this in the future. What respect between these two, as well. Such a nice exchange at the end!
@Don X I'm gonna assume you're a troll because that entire paragraph was really dumb to read, how do you have the nerve to call someone else mean spirited when you say nasty stuff like that?😂 Also, Venus has never had any sort of controversy on the court and is noted as being very friendly and chill so insulting her really shows your true intentions. What a weirdo.
I was reading the comments and saw many people predicted if these two meet Bianca will win because of her dropshots. Loved how Osaka stepped up to win one of the most anticipated match of the year. It was really close though.
Fearless Andreescu, who was dropping bombs on Osaka in the first set, and some of the second set, succumbed to the power and precision of Osaka in the latter part of the 2nd and final set. Naomi showed her inner resolve And was able to adjust her game slightly to take the final set which could have gone either way. This sort of a heartbreaker because these two young ladies are nice personalities. But between these two I’ll always be team Naomi.
Hear hear! me too! Bianca's an excellent, feisty competitor for whom the battle and the W are everything, but Osaka, though she certainly likes winning and has won more than most in her generation, is a pure hitter (literally) through and through, and the easy, fluid, power she generated in this match and these days in general underscores how much Bianca has to throw at a ball to deliver comparable pace (less sound technique, a bit of flailing and a lot of grunting for her power). The tricks that Bianca has become known for, the slices and chips and mixing up the pace, aren't going to cut it against an in-form Naomi, whose fitness, movement, foot speed, and defense are the best I've ever seen them. I, as a diehard Naomi fan, am relieved she rose to the challenge of playing the tour's current darling by playing and believing in HER game and solving every puzzle Bianca threw at her.
You obviously play and know the game; such as I do, because your analysis is unbiased and on point. Sooner or later a game that relies on spin and slice to escape rallies will have errors when going against pure baseline power. Andresscu game in the 1st set mirrored what Naomi did to Allison Riske in the 2nd set of that match, but Bianca couldn’t keep that type of game up for 3 sets once Naomi got her train on the tracks.
I"m pretty sure Osaka respected Andreescu, she mentioned her 17 match win streak. If anything, I think osaka earned a lot of respect from andreescu, the girl finally got taught how to lose lol
Two matches today were so good. First Ash vs. Petra and Naomi vs. Bianca was maybe even better! Such high quality from both of them a we definitely will see a lot of matches between these two.
Bianca has the variety but Osaka has the power, Osaka serves, returns and move better, Bianca has a better hand and a more tactical game, this two match up pretty well... I was hoping to see this match.
Honestly I thought Andreescu would win easily by Osaka’s UE but Osaka proved everyone again that she didnt need external coach. She’s doing much much better with her father, especially in temper control. Bravo Osaka 👏
Congratulations Naomi for delivering an outstanding performance! This is a big important win since the Australian Open! Hopefully we will get a tight rivalry between these two talented players like Monica vs Graf, Martina vs Chris or Serena vs Henin! All the best for the next round!
Brilliant match, this had the feeling of a Grand Slam final. Gutted for Bianca, really wanted her to push on being a break up in the final set. But credit to Naomi who play brilliantly. These two ladies are the future of the women's game
A match of so much grit and emotion, better appreciated watching it live. Each player was forced to make adjustment and pushed off the comfort zone. In the end, Osaka showed why she has been the world's numero uno and looks poised to return to that spot with her current form. It's good she's found her most reliable and trusted coach yet, in her father. When he advises her on the court, it's been spot on and she listens with rapt attention and implements it for good results. Congrats to both young ladies. Future of Women tennis appears better with both in it.
That hug though. Osaka went for handshake yet Andreescu already extended her arm. It resembled the start of Williams vs Sharapova encounters (not calling it rivalry, even Masha admitted it herself) and this two definitely will give exciting matches in the future (hopefully with more neck and neck result)
May Osaka take the role of Serena in this budding rivalry. I, as a diehard Naomi fan, am relieved she rose to the challenge of playing the tour's current darling by playing and believing in HER game and solving every puzzle Bianca threw at her.
@@ileanasantamaria2364 Andreescu is a more complete player than Osaka, and will win more titles than her. But Osaka's forehand is an incredibly potent weapon.
Great match. Osaka looks in great form. Mentally strong. How? She was able to battle back from Andresscu after losing first set. Shows mental strength and composure. Bianca has proven that she is no slouch. Osaka was very focus knowing Bianca has been having a great year and probably came in as the slight favorite. Naomi looks like the 2018 Naomi who won the US Open last year. These two will definitely be rivals like Graf and Navratilova use to be.
I’ve seen this posted several times, it doesn’t sound like something a Canadian would say. Can you please share your source for this statement ? Great match, could have gone either way but someone has to lose. Cheers
@@4freki It was after she beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich last week before her match against Mertens. www.tennisworldusa.org/tennis/news/Tennis_Interviews/77779/bianca-andreescu-i-forgot-how-it-feels-to-lose-/
There's one certainty about tennis and it's that every player no matter how good they are loses a match. So it was just a matter of time. Appreciate both girls and hope this loss will not start to get Bianca down.
Great match! Both great competitors. Happy for Osaka as she is one of my favorite players. I knew she could do it if she came with focused play. Andreescu is very strong mentally..a trait some of the wta players are lacking..I dont however think she's as unstoppable as people make her out to be. Both will go very far I'm sure. Congrats to naomi osaka. I believe she can win this tournament and I hope she does!
This was hands down one of the best matches of the year. Both girls delivered with Naomi pulling it out in the end. Naomi has been playing far better with her Dad as coach. I do hope he becomes her full time coach. A lot of people don't know that it was because of him that she won in Australia this year. Naomi and Sascha was not on good terms throughout those two weeks.
I do not think that is a good idea. Her dad has always been with her and he has never been able to get her to that level that she started reaching with Sascha. He should not be a permanent solution as he has nowhere near as much experience. Even the likes of Serena and Seles who were coached by their dads had to leave and get experienced coaches. I also think getting rid of Jenkins is giving a false sense of security, people who make drastic life decisions tend to feel lighter for a while but things set in.
@@deusexmachina9776 Im not denying Sascha's work with her. I think her father being more present and actually attending her matches has helped with her mental side. Jermaine was not right for Naomi.
I was nervous for Naomi but it was a good match. It was a great win for her and her confidence. I was impressed by her composure most of all. She can really get down on herself and she's been like that most of the year. She really needed the win in Osaka and now she's finally finding herself in Beijing.
What a match !!!.Congratulations to both players. Really Naomi is back. She must keep her father Leonard François as her caoch.Father knows better his daughter. The match was awesome, Bianca Andreescu played her best, but Naomi over played her with an incredible strong mental, despite having been led at all three sets, she recovered to win the second and third sets, she was full of different shots from all angles and she was good at the net and also with lobs shots. These two girls are the future greats of the women tennis.
Great match between two classy ladies. Andreescu's sportsmanship and kind words at the end were lovely to see. I'm glad both ladies have won majors at their young ages. I hope they both win many more!!
Don't see an awful lot of matches like this one on the WTA! Adore Osaka, she is a beautiful and humble person, sometimes I think she doesn't realise how good she is and Andreescu has an extremely bright future, winning the US Open as a debutant just shows how hungry and how good she is. Womens tennis is looking brighter each day.
Well done girls, a silent killer and a feisty competitor. The future of WTA looks great indeed. Congrats to both players for an amazing display of tennis.
