Laura, this is one of the most AMAZING bias cutting techniques ever! It provides a quick and easy method to an otherwise tedious task! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I don't know why I can't remember how to do this from quilt to quilt. I re-watch this video every single time I need to make my binding and fold along with you! You make it so quick and easy!
you all probably dont care at all but does anybody know of a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the login password. I would appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Salvador Keaton thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and Im trying it out atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Another great tutorial - thank you! Something I do regarding the "fold" - rather than cut it off, I simply cut half the desired width; therefore, using your fave 2 1/4", cut 1 1/8" - no waste! Thank you again Laura...
Such an accurate title for this video, "Bias Binding Made Easy". Thank you for your thoughtfulness in showing us from the viewer's point of view how to do the folding and then that tip about cutting that "bump" at the beginning. And that "ruler slide" tip was a little bit of magic :-) Bias binding is my preference for most quilts as it holds up better over time, so that's another Creative Grids ruler to put on wish list. Hope all is going well for you, Laura.
After watching your video, I purchased this ruler and used it for the first time today. OMG! This ruler made it so easy to fold and cut the fabric. Thank you for an excellent video!
Today I spent two hours looking at videos on cutting bias binding and I saw a variety of possibilities. Then after dinner your video popped up and wow! I loved it! I immediately ordered the ruler on amazon. You have a new fan/subscriber.
I have seen some of your videos before and now that I am getting out of my beginner level and moving into my novice level I'm doing more things and I am doing a project that the regular bias tape wasn't the right color so had to buy fabric and then bought a bias tape maker. I'm so glad I have watched your videos before because when i saw you I clicked right away. This is the only video I saw that shows how to fold it and cut it. I would have been just cutting straight strips. So I'm convinced I'm going to have to subscribe. Thanks again.
Love your tutorials and you don't waste time by sewing on your machine like so many other people do. We know how to sew and watching others sewing is like watching paint dry [lol]. You get to the point and so very clear at that. I've never heard of this ruler but will order me one now. When I'm cutting binding all those lines on my ruler makes my eyes cross. They won't now. Thanks.
I am really glad I started to follow you. I am actually into sewing rather than quilting but have learned more from your hands-on tips than from anyone else. Thank you so much.
Wow! I bought this tool and have been astonished at how much yardage I can squeeze out of a fat quarter or a yard. For years, I'd tried to follow tutorial for cutting bias binding but found them too complicated. But this method is quick and easy. Thanks for posting.
Thank you Laura for sharing this great technique for cutting bias binding. Can't believe that a few simple folds can take the pain out of the process. Fabulous!
I bought that ruler on your say-so. A bit pricey but worth it. TYVM, I am making my first bias tape today with your help. I feel like I solved a fabric Rubrics cube!
Excellent video! I think you’ve done a better job at highlighting this ruler than the Creative Grids people did! The tips for using it as a strip cutter is brilliant. I never thought of that! Thank you!
Laura, I agree with Susan below: Slick idea! I've always used the continuous binding method but I like that your method works for any size of fabric. Thank you for another good video.
Great tutorial. I found an online site that explained how to calculate how much fabric you need to bind a quilt. However I was struggling how to cut it. Thanks to your tutorial cutting the bias strips was a piece of cake. I also used another tutorial you posted on making a t-shirt quilt. I’m so pleased how it turned out.
Great info Laura. You made it so easy to understand. Bias binding can be confusing to those of us that don’t use it very much. Thanks for making it so easy to understand. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
OMG!! I think I may be a little late to the party, Laura. This was the best tutorial, so easy to do bias binding. I have been meaning to figure this out forever, today was the day and it worked beautifully. Thanks so much!!
I clicked the like button, but I really LOVE this folding technique. I'm fairly new to quilting and haven't used bias binding because it seemed too complicated to cut. I will definitely be using this tip.
Seems like a great ruler to help with the cutting, but my complaint with bias binding is the sewing the strips together. So, I like the continuous binding method, where you sew the triangle together, then cut apart. I'm sure this ruler would come in handy when marking the cutting lines. Thanks for always showing us the new products in the market. 💝☀🌵
I too have always used 2-1/4 inch binding. You're the only other person I've heard of that does the same. Everyone uses 2-1/2, but I find it too wide. Great tutorial re bias cut binding. Thank you.
Always a wonderfully concise, straight-forward tutorial from you--with a minimum of chit chat--which I find so helpful when I'm trying to concentrate on what is being taught. Thank you.
Thank you for a great tutorial on this ruler, especially showing on camera as if us, are using it. I hope Creative Grids will appreciate your demo as I looked at theirs & it's very dated & difficult to follow.
Evil Danielle - it's so lovely you are thinking of finishing your Grandmother's quilt. Staff in fabric stores will be able to advise if you give them the length and width measurements. You may have to sew two narrower strips of cotton fabric together to get the size you want. Calico is a cost effective way of backing your quilt and comes in wider sizes. Don't forget you'll need batting (the squishy middle layer). There are lots of great RU-vid tutorials on quilting, including SewVeryEasy of course 😀 Enjoy!
Thank You. You are always the one that makes these overwhelming skills accomplished! If you ever make an updated version would you consider using a striped fabric? I think it would help follow the folding step.
Hi Laura, I'm convinced you're a mind reader! You always have a tutorial for what I need :) Hope you have a great holiday and thanks for all your videos.
A great video, I was unable to understand pictorial directions on my ruler, kept making errors, so after your video I have grasped it & other useful uses of ruler. Now will enjoy cutting bias strips. Again thanks & love your channel.
Laura This was VERY helpful and I saved to my favs so I can refer back as necessary. Thank you for creating the video. It helps to make these for those of us that don't use a specific technique everyday and forget. Kudos girlfriend! Hugs!
I loved the video, bought the ruler, folded my fabric, ran the cutter down the ruler. Beautiful strips. Now I need to sew, then try to apply to a square cutout in a curtain. Wish you had a video doing corners that are inverted. Think I will round the corners.
Another very important lesson learned with this video. Using the bias maker marked 25, somehow I thought this might mean 2.5 so I cut my strips 2 1/2". Bias tape just didn't fold right. Wait a minute, go back to video, how did I miss your explanation on what the marking meant. Ironed strip, folded a couple of times, lined up edges very carefully, lined up fantastic ruler, trimmed off a perfect 1/2 inch, ran thru binder maker again, PERFECT BIAS TAPE. By folding fabric your way, my square hole is 10"x10", strips needed were over 40", don't need to join for this project, but will save the rest to trim a little dress. Thanks so much for your videos.
Laura you are a good teacher, you explain so well that makes us to do even hard things. Thank you!!! God bless you...(.I used my husband email.) I am here every day.
Another excellent video. Do you know how much fabric I have wasted in the past? Definitely getting myself one of those. Thank you so much for another wonderful tutorial. 😊
