You know how it is at the start of the season, the desperation kicks in after months of only diving a desolate underwater landscape. Deep down you know that it's still too cold, but maybe this will be the day the fish appear... So still a little early for most eating fish - but also early enough for cheap parking, I head down to Brighton Pier.
Here I'm diving central-end. The visibility is unbelievable (for Sussex 3m is considered good, 7 is unbelievable). The grey fuzzy sky and a high sun leaves little-enough light in the center that you dive down into pitch blackness.
I have a torch on my wrist and gun, and through the darkness we can see first a few solitary sea bib and then clouds of them circulating in the dark, illuminated by the torch, or silhouetted against the light.
Nothing exciting, but hopefully interesting.
