I also felt differently about politics and my responsibility towards it until I had kids. Having kids, though doesn’t fix you as a man, it really plants a desire in you for wholesomeness to abound. 'Days of Vengeance' by David Chilton. An exhaustive (ca. 750 pages) commentary on chapters 1-22 of Revelation. There are probably around fifty OT references per chapter. As good Calvinists, we know the Lord accomplishes all He sets out to do. Consequently i had to ask myself, exactly what all did He say He set out to accomplish? What all Promises did He actually make? For my answers to those, i was won over by Chilton's exegesis.

Joel, God bless you and my brothers here at CrossPolitic. Interesting and helpful conversations here! Love our Sabbath feasts - we are still working on it. What was interesting in Europe, and particularly Germany, was that they are very "Sabbatarian" so to speak - so many places closed on Sundays. Yet, the most pagan culture I have ever been in while stationed there back in my military days. I always found that very interesting.

I don't understand how the conclusion was reached that the "ceremonial" Sabbath was done away with but that a sabbath is still applicable but we somehow pick the day we want to rest?
@sherlocks8893
@sherlocks8893 Год назад
We don't arbitrarily pick. The Sabbath of the old aeon was the seventh day, which demonstrates completion - the day of rest at the end of Creation. In the new aeon, we rest on the eighth day, the day of New Creation - because our rest was secured for us as new creations on the day of Christ's Resurrection. Hope this is helpful!

But isnt this then going to be the struggle? Who is going to be the deciding body of what is the "equity" or moral principles behind the law? I am sorry if I a mistaken, but it already looks like from the onset Theonomy is trying to redefine the Biblical Law and consequence to fit a contemporary standard, and by doing thus; wouldnt this make the Biblical Law and consequence subjective by those who are interpreting its equity? The only thing I can think of is a V for Vendetta scenario; where, like the commentator said "and we go from thou shalt not kill, to doing no neighbor harm," and it gets so knit-picky that butter becomes illegal because it is high in cholesterol, and thus, could cause a neighbor harm. Am I missing something here? If Gods Law is good, and the consequences just; why must we look for equity if we are trying to establish Gods Law as the universal rule. Isnt this another way of saying Gods Law is too harsh, and so are the consequences? And how can we do that if Gods Law is perfect? But I do agree with some of what they are saying. You really cant be a Christian without being a ideological Theonomist. When we fight for traditional marriage, unborn rights, or any other hot button moral issue of the day, we are actually pushing for theonomy/theocracy. Yet, somewhere between preserving the Constitution (which isnt a theocratic document) and establishing a Theonomic society; something is going to have to give. Either America will be home of the free; or home of the not free to sin without civil consequence. I think this is where a lot of these theo-political evangelicals are going to start to part ways; when they were fine with others losing their freedoms; but when it hits their doorsteps, for something they enjoy; they are going to jump ship. Just imagine how immoral 99% of movies are. Theonomy would eventually leave only movies that glorify Christ. Only music that glorifies Christ. Only clothing that glorifies Christ. Only hair styles that glorify Christ (sorry lead singer for Hillsong,) the only things that will be legal, or those things that glorify Christ....now who gets to decide what glorifies Christ based on the Bible? Who is this deciding body?
@repentorperish1386
@repentorperish1386 2 года назад
Well the constitution is in fact a theocratic document. It came from the law of God. The right and principles in the constitution come directly from the bible. And basically laws are the parts that have consequences in the bible, then those can be broken down by legal or civil consequences. You mentioned v for vendetta and making things illegal that dont honor christ. What you're missing is that we can let those things go because there is a judgement day. Can people go to far yes, but without the restraining hand of God's law and biblical wisdom then any group is going to go too far like the left sre doing today. The left are theonomists too, theh just have a different false God.

@repentorperish1386
@repentorperish1386 2 года назад
@@hisbidding that is not the same. If you believe that the gospel changes hearts then you don't need to force it, like respecting peoples customs from Paul's writings. Every right outlined in the bill of rights were biblical. The entire idea of the constitution was for a religious and moral people as i think ben franklin or madison said. The point is that if the gospel saves there is no fear of another religious people being here. Because they dont have a message that saves. And i never said it was perfect either. But every one of the ideas in the constitution and bill of rights came from the bible and i dont think thats even debatable even secular people recognize that. But again its not perfect

@arminius504 2 года назад
@@hisbidding religious pluralism outside of a western/ Christian/ enlightenment framework was not what they thought about. Islam, Hinduism etc. would not have led to the constitution nor would they have thought about those world views when coming up with the document.
@hisbidding
@hisbidding 2 года назад
@@arminius504 And what is your evidence they would have not thought about those worldviews when they drafted the document? Many of the drafters of the Constitution were in fact Masonic Theists. This isn't even disputable. In Masonry, the cohesion of many world religions; not just Christianity, is the focal pursuit of "illumination." Contrary to your assumption; I think they knew very well the implications of drafting protections for religious pluralism. Part of it was to protect their own interests in Freemasonry; which is a religion by any other name.

Is art an objective? Does it need rules and make sense to be judge it as beautiful? I personally agree. I hate modern art. Well most of it. Some are nice but overall the modern principle of art today is just all over the place.
@rockycomet4587

God ultimately determines what is beautiful, and he has given an aesthetic perception to us. We honor God when we create beauty and meaning in our craft. Most forms of art today are preoccupied with the ugly or the meaningless, in keeping with postmodern ideas.

How does one make sense of Colossians 2:16-17 where it says "Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ."? See, the thang is, about "winging it" in art. No true art is EVER winging it. The closest i can imagine to true winging is perhaps a sllo in a jazz piece. Yet even then, should i play guitar in a combo, my solo is going to be impromptu notes improvised in real time but ACCORDING TO a preconceived, agreed upon chord progression, in a known key, at a synchronized tempo and time signature..in other words my improv is in a very structured framework all the other musicians create and agree to. In visual art it is the same. But most importantly, if your art form happens to involve load-bearing components of a practical habitation or other building, you must adhere closely to the form which will not crumble and crush the tenants like an eastern european night-club.

The challenge that was made was that we don’t see a concern or even an addressing of the secular law systems by the church in Acts and the Epistles, they only seem to be concerned with spreading the Gospel. Well before we became completely depraved and could no longer tell boys from girls we did in fact export good solid freedom minded morals around the world, sometimes by proxy of people just looking to the most free country ever. As we have fallen into secularism now we export feminism and others either directly or indirectly. If there is going to be an empire as big and as free as the u.s. there are going to be cultural exports no matter what. We just need to figure out what we are going to export by figuring out what we are going to have as a culture
