Im 17 yrs old, have a job, a girlfriend, am a senior in hs, and am old enough to have built myself a motorized bike. This motorized bike is older than I am and still runs. I see lots of posts about motorized bikes breaking easily. But unlike them, you take care of your bike and it shows. When you take care of your equipment, your equipment takes care of you. I saved a 93 Ranger the other day. Full econo specs on it one of the best mpg 6ft bed pickups. Agree with that for sure. The only vehicle that has busted on me can be fixed but I have plenty so I'm going to part it out soon. Going to have to make me one of these things, while I love my portable metal roofs, these 50cc bicycles seem like a great prep.
@danlovett3697 I've learned everything from my grandpa. Every project, house maintenance project, woodworking, computer repair, building a tree house, etc was completed by my grandpa and I.
These bicycle motors will actualy last if you never run it over 20mph and use good oil and gas and keep good maintenance on them . Ive got 1 thats 10 years old snd still running .
I have two of these that are 11 years old with 1150 miles and 2890 miles on them. They still run as well as they ever have. The one with more miles might be smoking slightly more than the other.
AS WE SAY DOWN SOUTH ,,,,AINT NO DAM WAY!! yeah im sure it can last 40 or 50 years but not if you ride it back and forth to work every day putting 25 30 miles a day on it ,,im just being honest ,,i count on my bike to crank an run to take my behind back and forth every day raining hot and cold it dont matter i still choose to use one of these over anything else you cant beat your cost needless to say theres been many times i have gotten a ride home because of the weather an in the past 12 years i have wore several engines out ,,and have had dam near all of them from minarelli top ends to stihl top end engines and the only one that has took my abuse is the 54mm name brand stihl top end with a 42mm stroker rod ballanced crank with a minarelli exspantion chanber nibbi 17 carb 38 tooth sprocket,,theres pictures or it on my facebook page stroke too
I've thought about it, but the bike doesn't have the best breaking capability so, I didn't want too without a brake upgrade. I just didn't get around to it and with other projects going on over the years I just kept riding it as is, thinking I would just build another bike, with disc brakes and jack shaft. It would be good, to get where I'm going faster. There are pros and cons, with more speed there's more chance of pain, when in heavy traffic or getting unwanted attention from the man/authorities. Exabition pedaling mostly keeps you from getting stopped at lower speeds.
The only reason I don't do it is because my 27.5" bike is already extremely heavy to lift up and down my stairs for my upstairs apartment otherwise I'd love to put one together!!!!
Thank you for watching, It's a 2 cycle. Never had any problems with the engine. I may have been lucky with this one, or It's good maintenance and not abusing it with over revving.
It should be a two stroke (considering the spark plug placement and the sound), which is usually lubed only by adding oil to the gas. Turns out there is a valve in the intake passage letting air/fuel mixture enter the crankcase during the compression part of the stroke, during the intake this air/fuel gets sucked into the cylinder and is replenished during compression again. It is quite ingenious and it provides oil as well as cooling for the engine. I just started learning about engines recently, so this is as far as my knowledge goes. Have a good one
It has ports that fill the top and bottom end during normal operation. The crank case is considered part of the cc rating, which is why you might hear people say "these bikes are called 100cc but they're more like 50cc", the crank case isn't actually part if the top end but it is connected
When I was a kid, I would ride my 20" a lot and several times I had hub bearings get hot and melt some of the ball bearings. I noticed my teenage cousin's antique 26" bike that looked like it was from the 1950s and I realized it had grease fittings on the hubs, guess they built them to last back then. I remember my bike feeling so smooth and free just after freshly cleaning and putting new grease in the hubs so, I started putting grease fittings in my bike hubs. I soon realized I could have that free and smooth feeling in a few seconds with a grease gun, without spending all the time and work to achieve that.
@BicycleMotors-ep6pc Fair enough. I find that it takes about 7 or 8 thousand miles before I needed to check my hubs. I did 200 miles a day for a week (7 days) when I was working in South Africa to raise money for a charity that provided education for the local children. I destroyed 2 sets of tyres a chain and gears etc plus a set of brakes but everything else was fine.
The odometer goes back to zero at 999 miles. I lost count how many times that happened over the life of two speedometers over the last 18 years. Just rode that bike another 30 miles yesterday.
Fairly sure my engine kit said 50cc. I've heard from other people the engine ccs can vary from kit to kit or have been mislabeled in some cases. I can't say for sure what mine is.
They are junk and dont last long at all and break down with a million problems you have too fix. Better go off the E-bike route. cause at the end of the day, You know your bike gonna still run!
They both have their positives and negatives. These are a bit easier to keep going if you are trying to go longer distances, i.e. you can “recharge” at a gas station, and be on your way in minutes rather than say, an hour or so. The electric versions, however, are quieter - and if ridden reasonably, are less likely to attract the wrong kind of attention.
