Aaron - This was a great watch - now grab a coffee before you read my comment...Sorry I get passionate about Media productions... :) Keep up the good work - I don't often watch similar videos to this right through - as a lot of the time not everyone is doing a lot of the same I am doing, but I watched through the setup, and how you have your Road case setup, and it ticked a lot of my setup and methodologies, so it was awesome to see someone I can relate to as far as setup, preparedness, and PREPAREDNESS (I often run 3 recordings on the day - Camera, Atomos Shogun, and the Streaming PC itself. ) I put myself in the same Boat/category as yourself when it comes to one Man production crew. I do have some other staff, including my Son and Daughter, however for the most part they are off at other venues filming along with my other 14 Camera operators whilst I am at a venue where I am doing the Bulk of work. We do work for Australian Rules football here in Australia - where the work I do includes Filming, Directing, Streaming, Graphics, Live Replays, etc...and it's all done at the same time! Prodominately that includes having built several iterations of a Compact streaming unit - it has gone from laptop size, to something which takes up a whole car Seat, now back down to a single (similar to yours) 6RU compact "UGLY" as they call them - Road case - although I am about to buy a van to deck out as a Mobile Broadcast studio - so I also need to think both Inside and Outside the box for a few things. My current main setup is effectively a 6 x PCIe slot Server Motherboard, with an i7 processor and 64Gb of RAM, running Windows 10 and as @EventSwitcher mentions below - I use VMIX software. It has 2 Blackmagic cards in it - a Quad and a Duo - giving me up to 10 inputs and 2 Outputs (Vmix limited to 2 physical outputs via SDI unfortunately) - however I overcome outputs there by also having a 4 x port HDMI video card so I can use 2 Monitors for the Broadcaster feeds and another port for my control monitor (don't use the Multi-view as much because there is no Control of it.) Recently added a Decimator to the Mix - although mine went faulty after 2 weeks and although will input via HDMI - the HDCP componentry has failed I think, as you can't Plug it into a PC or Laptop - Off being replaced/repaired. Long story...Longer... I have a Small Korg Midi controller which I mount on my Sony Z280 Camera and have programmed more than 40 functions on it to enable me to have the Streaming Setup away from the camera, but operate it entirely from the camera - which includes the Live Replays, Overlay control, Switching (if also using a 2nd Cam,) - Pretty sure that is all your Stream-Deck is doing, i.e. pre-programmed Macros. Would love to get a chance to film my workflow one day...I think the thing I am most proud of - which I can see in what you are doing, is being able to quickly identify what everything is and does instantly, which when I am trying to film what really is an extremely fast paced game is something I don't think many people would be able to do *pats self on back* - and doing the Videoing as well as shot producion, replays, Live Scores and making sure the Commentators are able to see everything they need to as well as delivering a Live-Streamed product for the Viewers. If interested at all - I did put this together earlier this year - a little hard to see but just below where the Shogun is - is where the Midi Controller sits., and the Viltrox on top is my control screen, effectively that is the Windows Desktop with VMIX running - yes it's small, but I know where everything is...so it's easy to control. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d_k3zn0oZ00.html The Biggest problem I had between the First iterations of using Wirecast, then Vmix for the past 2 years - was that the Moment you want any more than 1 input - you start to need to look at PCIe cards in a desktop/Server - because devices using USB3 or Thunderbolt just won't give you the Bandwidth you want for Multiple video inputs. That said - if all you have is a Single Video input and can get away with a Single Shuttle and using NDI over a Network for further inputs (use for graphics and Presenter laptops for instance.) then something like Vmix would be Perfect, and you could potentially cut down some of the bulk even more - further to that it is far cheaper than the Single Tricaster option (altough co-incidentally - Newtek do do some amazing NDI stuff!) Cheers

I am about to start a Streaming/CCTV small business down here in Mexico City. As far your experience now, what it would be a good start for an ATEM system? the new fresh ATEM Mini or the Studio version considering 3 cameras max at times and a projector? Also El gato streamdeck is a good additions to push in gfx? or do you have other suggestion for that. With an ipad could be done? Thank you in advance. Regards.

@aaronpk 4 года назад
Thanks! I've had good luck with the Canon Vixia G20s in the past, although there is an updated model out now. They're relatively inexpensive and decent quality, they're cheap enough that I can afford three of them for an event, where that'd be a bit expensive getting 3 GH5s and lenses. In general, I like that camcorder style for this kind of production because it means you will always have a way to power them from an outlet, and the lenses are usually built in so it's less to set up. Some of the fancier ones will have SDI outputs which is nice when you want to do a long cable run too.

Aaron, you really should be making both copies from the sd and not copying the 2nd from the first. This way you wont perpetuate a corrupt copy. Besides that, awesome rig and awesome video! Thank you!
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 года назад
I'm not sure what you mean? In general, copying files on a computer can't really corrupt them without the computer knowing about it. It's not like copying analog tapes. If you copy a file, you'll get the exact same bits on the other side. Corruption happens when you're streaming video because the stream prioritizes being realtime rather than being 100% accurate, but when copying files it can be 100% accurate because there is no concern about how long it takes. Filesystems have robust measures in place to ensure a copy of a file is an exact copy and is not corrupted.

This means that if this was build in a bigger box, you would not have to connect much every time. I mean if all the seperate equipment was also build in the same box. right? So this is a lot of work because you want to be able to move it by bicycle right?
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 года назад
I keep thinking about building this into some sort of box that I can set on top of the back part of that bike, so that I can leave more of it connected together. It's definitely a lot of wiring that would be eliminated if I didn't have to pack it down so small.
@deanhome1

have you considered a tricaster mini it would eliminate all that and all you need is a back pack to hold the mini and a gechic portable monitor that's what I use i sold my atem studio and DAC
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 года назад
It wouldn't cut out that much gear though. Still need cameras, tripods, and cables. The main reason I don't use it is because I don't want to sink that much cash into a single device that's actually a computer, where I'd need to replace the entire thing to upgrade it. This way I can replace parts as needed and it's much more flexible, and about the same price or cheaper. I also don't trust a computer operating system as much as I trust dedicated hardware.
@deanhome1

@@aaronpk You have a valid point, for me being able to have powerpoint slides inside the system bin, or using NDI scan converter to share the client's screen and bring it in really helps, configurable input and outputs, data linking which I use allot. We all have to find a workflow that works for us. The newer atem you have is way better than the atem studio I had. The only thing I wish they would add is the ability to not have to use photoshop for your lower thirds. In an emergency situation where you have to add someone's title last minute unless you have photoshop connected it wouldn't work is it the same on the one you have.

Aaron, great that you can put it all on the bike.... but I use the Newtek Tricaster. It can do everything your set up can but all in one box. The Atem black magic stuff is for sure cool and somewhat economical but when you put the cost and messyness of all that together you would find the Tricaster maybe even cheaper. Too many little pieces to put together to make what the Tricaster can do. Switch, audio mix, key, effects, record AND stream. Mine can record each camera independently while recording the live mix. Hey, if it works for you.. great. Just not a turnkey system. I have often thought having a Black Magic ATEM mixer system as a back up would be nice if I could afford it. The Tricaster can do up to 8 cameras plus Power Point inputs... but there are smaller 4 camera models as well. Ed Mellnik EMA VIdeo PRoductions
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 5 лет назад
The Tricaster looks cool for sure, but at $8000 minimum it's quite an investment! Of course a blackmagic system with similar features can get that high as well, I am a little more comfortable being able to buy it piece by piece and also be able to swap out components over time. I worry about spending $8000 on a single piece of hardware that can break or become obsolete.

@@JohnnyMotel99 Glad you managed. I find the easiest way to understand functionality within OBS is to actually read the user manual. A lot of people who use OBS don't even know it exists, which is a shame. It's a really good and extensive document.

Yup although must be sure to have a good CPU to process the load to stream on YT and do live projection at the same time.

Is there a mini pc inside your unit? Is that what the Streamdeck is connected to?
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 5 лет назад
VideoBase It's connected to the USB hub inside the box, but that's connected to the laptop outside of it. I've thought about putting a mini PC inside for this but haven't figured out the best option for that. Windows makes me nervous because of its forced system updates, and Mac Minis aren't small enough.

I have the Blackmagic SmartView dual screen mounted in the case, and the one up on top is the GeChic 13" monitor.

@@aaronpk Thanks Aaron. I'm looking at building my own rack because I spend too much time building up every time. You also mention in the video that you have a USB port on the back which connects to a media player inside. Could you give a little bit more information on that? I'm using a Raspberry Pi with OMX as a media player with the HDMI output to the mixer but looking into replacing that with a Mac Mini I have and VLC which I could then control with a Legato Streamdeck and Bitfocus Companion. That would then also replace the XKeys/JustMacros solution I'm using to control my switcher (ATEM Production Studio 4K).

1:30 - can you clarify 2 wires 1) decimator TO atem 2) 150ft cable : atem TO projector
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 года назад
These are both SDI cables. The Decimator runs into an SDI input of the ATEM. I take the AUX out of the ATEM and run that back up to the stage via an SDI cable. There’s an SDI to HDMI converter at that end to feed the projector.
@andrewtay5830
@andrewtay5830 4 года назад
3:14 - how did you get x3 PGM OUT in HDMI?
@aaronpk
@aaronpk 4 года назад
There’s a couple extra little SDI-HDMI converters inside the box. So the SDI output of the ATEM runs into an SDI-HDMI converter, which has an SDI pass through as well, so you get two outputs from that. There’s also the HDMI output from the recorder which provides another copy.
