What route do you take from Castle Rock to Denver? I'm looking at some bike maps and not seeing any good routes.

The Netherlands is no 1 in infrastructure for bike. You can cycle thru the whole country on safe bike roads only. And if there is not a bike road , the cyclist is always right and the cardriver has to pay if ther's a accident. So car driver go around cyclist like around a bomb.. you are king of the road on a bicycle in hollond. And all the ladies have the tallest strongest legs in the world.. Dutch are the tallest people in the world. Google it if you don't believe me.

Ignorance. Frames are not dangerous , don't know were you get than idea. I never know of a accident because of a flimsy? Frame. And everybody i mean everybody ownes a bike i Holland.

ITS a strange detail i have noticed over the years when the cyclist accidents occur and are reported they very seldom if at all report back on the following details like what happend to the car driver or the cyclist , who was at fault ?These details could be a helpful preventative to future accidents / lol.

Depends on if you've paid off your vehicle or not. My car cost me $550/month in payments for five years to pay it off. Insurance runs me $800 a year. Licence fee is $140 a year. New tires every 5 years is $500 plus for Winter and Summer tires each. Now, gas a week can cost $75 plus, and bi-yearly maintenance is around $200 every 6 months (gotta change over the tires each winter and summer and get an oil change). Just last month, I spent $2000 on front and rear shocks and struts and garage labour. Last year I replaced my break pads and break lines. And the cost of my driver's license renewal is over $150 every 5 years. Cars are like kids...you gotta take care of them, which can get expensive.

I also have a bicycle which I use to commute, but in rural Newfoundland, Canada, it's hard to ride in winter and I'd have to bicycle for a week to visit family who live like 500 kilometers away.

It's an average. Some people don't look after their cars. Thank goodness I don't have to figure that in any longer.

Once you get on a bike you will know, it is just there is so many people that think cars is the only way and that cycling is odd or at best only a sport and not for transportation. However cycling is really great not only to those that ride, but for society as a whole for example because people are healthier they are more productive, have less sick days and it really brings a lot of good since sick days means being less value for society. Also the more people that bike the less cars, meaning less pollution, less traffic jams, less need for roads and parking so again it benefits all not just those that ride.

@@bzdtemp I am going to try not to lose my temper here because you have been respectful in your opinion. But I have plenty to say about all of this nonsense. Bikes are fine if you want to ride them. I am not going to tell you that you should ride them and I'm not going to tell you that you shouldn't ride them. In fact It's not my place to tell you what you should or shouldn't do with your life. Just as liberals shouldn't be trying to control me. But I love cars. I love the freedom they give me to go to Boston and NYC in the same day. I love staying dry on rainy days and warm when it is 10 below zero outside. I love to turn on the air conditioning in the summer and I love to listen to great tunes on the awesome stereo system... And Sometimes I even love to turn the stereo off and listen to the music the motor makes. I love to feel the road as I sweep through the turns of a beautiful old road out in the countryside. I love to hold my girlfriends hand or pull her tight to me and hug her on romantic evening drives. I love talking to others about our passion for automobiles as well. I could go on and on about this but there is no point really because you will never understand any of this. All people like you want is to have your own way and make the rest of us miserable... And that is where we differ most. See I don't care if you ride your bicycle. In fact I'm happy for you. All I want to do is be left alone by people like you who want to get rid of cars and people like me... See that is the difference. I can coexist without trying to change you. You don't have to feel like me to have me accept you as another human being... But I know your type and you don't accept people people like me. I hope the next time you are out enjoying a beautiful sunny day on your bike that you remember this little chat and I hope you finally see that this world belongs to all of us and that we all deserve to be happy even though we do not always like the same things.

@@googleuser6201 But noone is forcing you to give up driving, so there is no need to be defensive. In fact the more people ride bicycles, the better experience you will have as a driver. One bicycle on the bicycle path = one car less in front of you ;)

It is not the law to wear a helmet in most European countries, as a cyclist (leisure and fitness) most wear helmets, it is mainly people commuting in cities where people don't.

Hi. Its not true that the Netherlands requires cyclists to wear helmets. Most don't and its because cycling is so safe there. This is a country that has more cycles than people, and the safest cycle routes.

And neither does Norway. The only countries requiring and enforcing by law the use of cycle helmets are Australia and New Zealand. Finland has laws in place but doesn't seem to enforce them. No European country has cycle helmet laws at present.

That's not clarification, it's bullshit. No European country has ever required mandatory helmet use. In fact seeing a cyclist wearing one in the Netherlands is an extremely rare sight. usually marking them out as a tourist

Cost isn't the only issue. There so many aspects to gender inequality with regard to cycling. Most women are primary care givers and see cycling as impractical and dangerous with a couple of kids in tow. Plus our roads are super aggressive places - great for testosterone fueled lycra clad male racers - not so great for a woman getting to work. I could go on.

It's about safety. You're more vulnerable on a bike than you are in a car.

@@dannyrees1 Don't forget about starting in childhood. There are parents who would buy one for their boys but none for their girls. I was fortunate to eventually get one at 12. When that fell apart I'd have to pinch my brother's (he recieved a new one every other year from the age of 6 )when he wasn't using it for a ride.
