I lived through all those presidencies and I will tell you, this is the truth. I worked 35 years to go from solid middle class to working poor. I’m past retirement age and I can’t stop working. My and my family’s quality of life and amount of finances decreased every time a Republican president took office. The best years for our income was during Clinton and Obama years. In fact, I could still say the harder I worked during Clinton years, I could still get ahead. When Obama was president, he inherited a horrible economy and he spent his term fixing all the Bush mistakes and trying to help us, but it was already too far gone. Now Biden has had to do the same thing and he’s done a great job considering what he was left with after Trump.
It's the same everywhere, not just the U.S. The next generation is really going to suffer, where I am in Canada, it takes 5× the median income to afford an average home. Good luck ever retiring.
Yet republicans blamed both Obama and Biden for the state of the economy 😮💨 it’s so backwards! People believe them because they are treating political parties like sport teams.
A know many people like yourself. Funny how "conservative" news and media outlets never seem to interview working class folks about being "better off" under a Republican president.
I have to say, Robert Reich really knows how to state simple but powerful messages through his videos. It’s astonishing that it is almost a guarantee that a Republican President will create some form of recession or depression. Why haven’t Americans learned that Republican Presidents are almost guaranteed to fail the American people??
It's sad how difficult things have become in the present generation. I was wondering how to utilise some money I had. I used some of it for e-commerce business, but that sank. I'm thinking of how to use what's left to invest, but I don't really know which way to go.
It's a good idea to seek advice at the moment, unless you're an expert yourself. As someone who runs a service business and sells products on eBay, I can tell you that the economy is struggling and many people are struggling financially.
Yeah, financial advisors could make a lot of difference, particularly in a market such as this. Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look. I have been using an FA since 2019, and I return at least $121k ROI, and this does not include capital gain.
My CFA ’’ Sharon Ann Meny a renowned figure in her line of work. I recommend researching her credentials further. She has many years of experience and is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financial market..!
I always take issue with the Dems not using names to place guilt where it is due. It was the Great Republican Depression. It was the Great Republican Recession. It was the Great Republican Pandemic.
all of which followed Democratic mismanagement of the economy. Great Depression caused by Wilson overspending that promoted wild Wall Street speculation which continued for a decade called the Roaring '20's, Great Recession caused by Clinton promoting Wall Street speculation on tech stocks and housing stocks, and the bubbles burst after he left office, Great Pandemic caused by democrat career bureaucrat Fauci and his funding of "gain of function" research in China.
Are you out of your mind. The democrats created the pandemic then shut down the world. At the time they did this energy prices were at record lows, interest rates low, inflation low, unemployment low, GDP on a steady rise. Wow!
The great depression proved tax cuts work to stimulate the economy, they stimulated the economy so much it caused the stock market to crash because everyone was doing so well. The 2008 recession was caused by the banks and the policy that allowed it to happen was signed by Clinton and reich himself did nothing at the time to oppose it because it was intended allow low income people to get mortgages. The pandemic caused recession around the world and the countries that handled it the best did not lock down their citizens like democrat states did. Trump left the covid response to state level which was the right thing to do. Funny how Reich has to lie about Trump being at fault for unemployment when it was the democrats who locked everyone down and mandated vaccines

The 2017 tax cuts and jobs act closed many loopholes. The time before carried interest can be used was extended effectively closing the loophole. It stopped multinational companies from avoiding taxes by deferring income. And it limited state and local tax deductions for the wealthy to 10,000, putting more money in the hands of local government.

Everyone needs to think like a scientist: don't let your biases and emotions and stubbornness guide you: pay attention to results and vote accordingly if you want things to get better.
The economy is "shitty" during republicans terms because they have to fix the democrats mistakes. Hard times fixes overheated economies. If the democrats quit giving their corporate overlords welfare there wouldnt be a need for hard times. Democrats have been stimulating the economy by handing out money directly to the corporation of there choosing while Republicans cut taxes to let all businesses keep more of the money they earned.
Look at that another comparison between Republicans and Democrats he’s trying to say that Democrats grow the economy twice as much as Republicans, but look at that inflation falls under Republicans and inflation increases under Democrats

I am from the deep south, I grew up around Republican voters, conservative voters, right-Libertarian types. Every Republican president & governor I have ever been under has done WORSE than Democrats. Does no one remember Kansas Governor Sam Brownback's tax cuts in 2013? It didn't work, the Kansas state budget had to be cut NINE times. Eventually, the Republican state legislature overpowered Brownback's veto and reversed the tax cuts. From 2013 to 2017, Kansas had among the worst economic growth in the United States. Same thing happened with Bobby Jindal in Louisiana, and now with Tate Reeves in Mississippi. The Republican fiscal policy of tax cuts simply do not grow the economy, period. I remember the Great Recession of 2008. Bush really did ruin my childhood with his fiscal policy. Lots of birthdays and holidays where I got cheap gifts or nothing at all. We were poor because of Republican governments. I will never forget that. That's why I'll never vote Republican at any level. Even if it's not a partisan race, I won't vote for anyone who has a conservative world view. I'm not risking another recession.

@@Kiki-en9vm Thank you. I can do a hell of a lot more research to reinforce my point. For instance, the number of registered Independents matches the number of registered Republicans, and registered Democrats exceed both by millions. Registered Independents tend to vote Democratic by a margin of 2 to 1. So what does this tell you? With a high voter turnout, the Democratic candidate is almost guaranteed to win in most areas. Now, take that information and imagine a presidential election with 95% turnout in all 50 states. Who do you think would win? Also, fun fact: In the 2022 midterms, Gen Z voted roughly 75% Democratic and only 20% Republican. They cancelled out the Boomer vote that year. The final year of the last two Republican presidents were both the worst for the economy since 1929, when a Republican (Hoover) was also in charge. They said the 2008 financial crisis under Bush was a once-per-century disaster, but then it took Trump only three years to create a crisis that made 2008 look like no big deal. The Grand Professor asks why would any working American put their trust in any Republican president ever again? Well here's why. 1. Inflation is hurting them the most. Its true that unemployment is very low now. But when home heating oil was $1.91 a gallon on 1/17/21 and is $3.60 a gallon today and when the price of eggs and wheat have skyrocketed great employment figures don't help much. 2. The present administration has bungled crucial foreign policy situations from the withdrawal from Afghanistan to the war in Gaza. 3. People are no longer fooled when experts and educators try to twist facts to mislead them. Particularly when said educators post videos on RU-vid and fill the comment section with robots that say how great they are.
1. The 'inflation' you're seeing currently is not natural, because it is caused by corporations being able to form massive monopolies unchecked thanks to the weakening of antitrust laws by the republicans, meaning they can raise prices as much as they want and consumers have no other option than to continue to buy from them at a massive disadvantage. These corporations also lobby republican governments for tax cuts, and then the money from said tax cuts can be used for even more lobbying. 2. Trump signed those. While it is very true that Biden's administration wanted soldiers back home, it was Trump who struck a deal directly with the Taliban, and made sure to only halfway complete the process. This is because the Trump administration wants to pin the entire withdrawal on the Biden administration. Because I'm not some brainwashed cult member who can't criticise their own chosen party (as much as I wish there were other options), however, I can say that the idea that Biden had to follow through with the withdrawal to maintain US integrity falls a little weak when US intelligence forecasted that the Taliban would not follow through with their own promises and would continue their campaign full-force after said withdrawal. But then again, there's nothing much that could be done on Biden's end.
I stopped watching at the very beginning when you when right to criticizing Trump. Loss of jobs was because of Covid not Trump. Biden got back all the jobs after Covid.

I agree. Then everyone in the world can see how detached from reality he is. You can't ignore the fact that Trump's policies created the lowest unemployment in 50 years and those jobs recovered in 2021 and 2022.
The "trickle down" plan sounds good but, well, people are greedy. Why "trickle down" the wealth to others when you can just keep the "trickle down" for yourself.
I completely agree, but it depresses me that our choice is between these two, very old men. I’m 66 and I’d much prefer to see a president younger than me, let alone someone in their 80s! Sadly, the third-party, science-denier Robert Kennedy isn’t the answer.
We look at age .....but the important work is done by the competent , capable , experienced individuals ...brought into the administration ..... If a 40 year old president brings incompetents into the administration .....what good is that .???
Remember the old soviet joke: the USA is a one party state that with typical American extravaganza have two parties. When you pick between capitalism and capitalism, is it really a choice?
@@jimmythetout109 The first job of a president is to instill confidence. Image and public perception are keys to a successful presidency. It is confounding that Trump has one of the worst public personas of anyone who’s ever been president, yet people love him for being an incomprehensible, narcissistic jerk. Uncle Joe is generally viewed as a genial but out-of-touch aging relative who needs to spend his days playing checkers and taking naps. That said, the right views him as an evil communist…which couldn’t be further from the truth. Biden gets pounded for occasionally zoning out yet Trump gets away with making totally unhinged statements. This shouldn’t be our choice.
@@noway12510 Until his last year. Everyone wants to ignore Trump's final year, which is the reason for all of the economic pain still going on today. It took time for Trump to crash Obama's economy. I was far better off in 2017 than I am today, but I'm educated enough to know the economy is a steamship and runs on momentum. The most optimistic predictions in March 2020 was that we'd be waiting until 2026 or 2027 before complete economic recovery. The pandemic recession was far worse than the 2008 financial crisis.
A lot of people have known this since Reagan... it's not new. That's the part I don't understand, why people continue to vote-R and against their own interests.
That is what R's still don't get. W Bush & Trump were both complete disasters and left behind huge train wrecks for the Dems to clean up. I refuse to support anyone that can't perceive the important differences between a private for profit business and the way govt must operate to do it's job properly. No more failed CEO's that want to PRIVATIZE everything! NO more TV reality show hosts, EVER AGAIN! I'll happily stick w the nice, drama-free, stable, fair minded ones w lots of practical on the job experience and wisdom. The one who protects The Constitution and doesn't want to be a DICTATOR will get my loyal support. 💙💙💙👍☑
None of the politicians we've ever had have been good with Economic plans. Look where we are today. Most people know this countries economic, financial state, and the government itself has been on hospice and spending spree militarily for decades to satisfy corporate interests since 1871.

HERE YOU GO! When Trump took office in January 2017, the U.S. had 145.6 million nonfarm jobs, the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ standard measurement for job counting. After Trump’s first 30 months - the same number of months that Biden has been in office - the number of jobs had risen to 150.8 million. That’s an increase of about 5.2 million jobs, or a bit higher than the 4.9 million Trump described in South Carolina.
Sorry for you. As middle class, I enjoyed prosperity of vigorous economy under Reagan, worked hard, and earned a home. Democrats just print money and give it to Iran, Ukraine, Illegal immigrants, and futile green overspending. National debt 27 trillion when Biden usurped control and is now 32 trillion and climbing. He just asked for an increase in budget from 3 trillion to 7. Thanks to Democrats my value has shrunk 25% from Bidenflation.
Make our economy great again! SPREAD THE WORD! Vote blue, and be sure to call, write, or email your representative and demand a constitutional amendment to elect the president by popular vote NOW!
remember I remember when Trump was the president and I had a part-time job that made me about $600 every other week. Now I’m living in Biden‘s economy! And I make about that much every other week with a full-time job.
Out of the top 10 impoverished states most are Republican out of the top 10 states most dependent on federal aid aka. socialist welfare most are Republican, pro-economy where
@@sterlingmarshel6299 this money is federal aid for these states not the poor, so they can pay their bills because the Republicans running them won't raise taxes, raise the minimum wage or bring in businesses to generate taxes so their states are solvent, the very Republicans that complain about welfare are the biggest beggars
Reagan also started the downfall of education and mental health by defunding both programs. You simply can't be educated, mentally sound and patriotic if you're still voting for republicans at this stage.
I retired June of 2021 at 61 years old. My investments over the past two years have increased at a rate I didn't expect to see. I am very happy with the current state of the stock market. My wife and I don't eat extravagantly so our grocery bills have stayed in check. We sold our home 15 years ago and have rented an apartment ever since and travel. We couldn't be happier with the way Biden has handled things. Sure gas and groceries are a bit more but I feel that is to be expected.

The trickle down economic did not work nor will ever work for the low to middle class people. It worked very well for the rich. I worked for a company for that made millions every year when I was working there. When I started there, they gave out bonuses, gift certificates for Thanksgiving and Christmas. After about 2 to 3 years there the bonuses stopped then later the we just get a $25 gift card instead of the $25 for Thanksgiving and $30 for Christmas. All that stopped so the owner can keep more money for himself. While we continue to make millions of dollars for him. After he died, his kids sold the company to a UK company. The only thing they did right was to give a bonuses for how long you were with the company before the sale. They still made out with millions after the sale of the company.
Well, Trump has a plan..............he wants to be a DICTATOR! I'll have to take a hard pass on supporting the 91 times INDICTED crook who wants a quick get out of jail free card AND wants to make the USA like 1930's Germany. NO THANKS, Donald! 😂 🚫
But we all know they never do. He simply tells his gullible goofs whatever they want to hear & it works EVERY time! And no matter how outlandish, unrealistic, etc. it sounds, they are always guaranteed to be convinced that he's "their man" who knows what he's talking about! Does this remind anyone of someone named "Hitler"? Regardless of whatever HE said or DID, his puppets would NEVER abandon him! In their eyes, he could NEVER make mistakes! "Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it."
The MAGA mob only accepts 'alternative facts' that don't apply to the REAL world lol! Thus, they prefer a wannabe DICTATOR as president that we know only brings 24-7 chaos, incompetence, lies, and crime everywhere he goes. Be smart, Say NO to Trump! ☑
@@marcosalmonte6390 - Trumpers: But Donald Trump was put in the WH by GOD! Normal voters: Then explain how easily we dumped him after ONE badly failed term?! 😂🤣😆😄
My dad always said that vote GOP and the economy will go south. He came to the U.S. in the 1920. He grew flowers to sell to shippers for over 50 years. When the GOP ruled the economy alway went downhill and we had to tighten our belts because prices dropped and flowers didn’t move. Sure you can blame the previous administration. But that argument does not hold water if it doesn’t get any better in their second term. Take me for example, when Bush took over I was still working. I got laid off and couldn’t even find a part time job after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in business accounting in 2010. I sat for over 2 years. Thus when I was eligible to vote in 1972. I have always voted blue. My persuasive essay was named Why the Democratic Left is Right for America. I cited how job numbers dropped dramatically under GOP rule and how joblessness dropped dramatically under the Dems. Today they want the Stock market to crash and kill most of my 401k savings and they want to dramatically reduce my Social Security. I guess at 71, I will just have to work as long as I can.
Speaking for myself not anyone else, I'm doing much better than I was 4 years ago!! Trump's tax cuts for the rich kneecaped me!! Trump cost me roughly $2000 per year!!
Australian here. I googled your tax brackets just out of curiosity for this video and noticed something different from our tax system. In Australia, our tax brackets start with a 0% tax rate for the first 18k, then it goes up to 19% until 45k and increases from there. I noticed in the US tax system that your lowest tax bracket is still taxed. Only at like 10%, but it still confused me. If you want a tax cut that will literally help every single taxpayer, get your government to have the lowest tax bracket completely untaxed. Everyone benefits, especially those who have the least to spare.
Just a small note that US citizens typically apply the standard deduction, which in 2023 was $13850 (married is double because of 2 people obv). The first $13850 is nearly tax free. In theory, the income taxes start after that. We're unnecessarily complicated
3:31 This idea of "running the country like a business" being a good thing is asinine. How do businesses run? They do their best to cut wages and other costs and funnel all their gained wealth to their shareholders. Well, guess who politicians' shareholders are? Their big donors and lobbyists. Running the country like a business will mean lower wages for the regular person, higher taxes on the regular person, and lower taxes or requirements on the wealthy share holders, that is, the corporations that pay for all the politicians' campaigns. Running our country like a business is the absolute worst thing that could happen to the middle class economy. And indeed, literally every measure of the strength of the middle class has absolutely tanked since 1981 and the advent of Reaganomics. The government needs to act as a check on the natural state of the capitalist employer, who, by design, exploits all his workers. You can't make money if you pay people according to the value they add to your company, because there would be no excess. You necessarily have to pay them less than that value so that you can acquire the profit. That's the whole point of a capitalist business. Trying to run the country like a capitalist employer literally means exploiting the workers for the benefit of the wealthy, because that's the fundamental principle on what a capitalist business is built upon, and does the exact opposite of what the government should be doing. When you run the country "like a business," you end up with things like the ratio of CEO to work pay going from 20x more in the 60s to 330x more now. It's all exploitation, and the Republicans (and most modern Democrats) allowing companies to do so.
I thought this was a comedy bit at first. As an economics supplemental instructor I can for sure tell you this is misleading at best. There is far too much inaccuracy to begin to cover here, so my advice is to do your own diligent research. This is the campaign period of lies. Ultimately, ask yourself . . . are things better now, or far worse?
Im no expert but it feels like corporations are rising prices in a form that questions their ethics. It seems to me that prices drop when republicans are at the helm because they simply cut their taxes and have no one regulating their actions.
Love the videos but can you please cite your sources in the video description. It would be awesome to just point others to the sources of the info after watching the video
@@Mayor_Of_Eureka17 are you really that brainwash that you don't see how biased the rhetoric is on this video? You do know reich is paid to push his narrative on CNN and MSNBC right?
This video is propaganda lies. Trump created the lowest unemployment since 1969, the democrats locked down their citizens in 2020, and then the jobs that already existed because of Trump just recovered. That's is reality.
