This has everything. Dinky little shorts for the ladies, cheap shots by the bucket load, faking injury, fights, punch ups and yer usual crass Aussie presentation. It does not disappoint ! The Australian male in all his glory.
I'm glad this isn't done in the game any more. We've already got players turning up with cumulative brain injuries. Dean Kemp and Brett Heady from the Eagles both retired early because of too many head knocks. Possibly the same with Chris Waterman too.
Reminds me of growing up in country SA in the 60s. The local Footy league sent a letter to all clubs stating that gloves would no longer be allowed on the field as part of uniforms. Apparently some players had taken to sewing horse shoes into the back of the glove.
The amount of courage it took to step on one of those fields. Sorry for the terminology, American here. Played a few physical sports. American Football and Lacrosse and I would hesitate walking onto this field.
Richmond - the thugs of the 70s...Essendon the thugs of the 80s, 90's and beyond (along with Hawthorn)...hmmmm now what do those two teams have in common? SHEEDY - biggest sniper of them all
This is what I was watching and playing growing up. M broken jaw in under 12s and broken collar bone in under 15s along with a lot of other little injuries and played until 21 and then a couple of games at 37 which was stupid
Funny how back in the day, a tough guy was regarded as one who would land a coward punch on a player who was playing the ball. Really they were nothing but low life cowards
@J G whats a coward punch got to do with soccer being a more popular sport. Justin beiber is more popular than Guy sebastian doesn't mean he is better.
@J G Yet no one in Australia gives a flying toss about soccer. Really if you knew the sport you wouldn't be calling it soccer. Yeah and great game that is with all the sooks falling over if you look at them sideways.
One of the biggest brawls was Hawthorn-Essendon in the 83 or 84 grand final. Essendon alleged Hawthorn players got high on eucalyptus. Well that didn't go down well and a big brawl resulted
Hunt gives this great big "when men where men intro" I just see a bunch of snipers hitting people from behind and elbowing others in the head with out warning. Nothing manly or courageous about that.
you probably dont give a damn but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..? I somehow forgot my account password. I love any tips you can give me
Showing the Neil Sachse incident at 1:00:31 is in very poor taste, as he became a quadriplegic as a result of the incident. It was shown earlier in this video too.
Mark Lee, Dale Weightman. Two legends the likes of which the Tiges need now. Premiership players who stuck with us from the good times to the bad to the very bad. Go tiges cheers Oztiger, subbed :)
Many of these incidents are just pure thuggery, with some noticeable big names featuring several times. I don’t mind seeing the old ‘shirtfronts’ and hard hits, but there are a lot of disgraceful head high hits in this selection.
Imagine just one of these bumps in wogball? The play would be stopped for an hour, they would have an X-ray machine on the ground and time on would go for ten hours! Instead the game just continues in Aussies rules, where men are men.
This just reminds me of American hockey and football. It’s so violent. Why not just get a team of “goons” and thit the opponent in the face whenever the got the footie?
Yeah it's hard hitting footy the like you will never see again. Because it has turned into a free kick game. Guys getting pay back for there sculldugry.
What I always suspected...Ricciuto was a thug...I'd love to know how Syd Jackson got off that charge in the 2nd semi of 1970. Can only assume something nasty had been said to him
Cricket used to have this sort of culture as well, Lillee and Thompson brutalising the English batsmen with no helmets like a pair of thugs. Only good luck that no one ended up in prison on a manslaughter charge. With people like Rex Hunt "ruling the roost" these sure were Neanderthal times. Thankfully all the cavemen are back in the pre historic past and these games have moved on, or else they'd be consigned to the same bin that Rex Hunt should be in.
LOL @ you! Jardine? Bodyline? Our bowlers were just too fast for you wimpish poms. The joy we Aussies felt when Lillee or Tommo (yes, no 'h') struck a pom (body, not head) was incalculable. BTW Rex was merely a commentator. He had no input or control whatsoever to or over AFL/ VFL decisions, play or policy.
I watched only a few minutes of cowards hitting people mainly from behind. Disgraceful times. This has thankfully this is now out of the game, because otherwise it would be dead. And Hunt's introduction was sickening. Summary justice? No acts of mongrels.
Aussie rules is an entertaining game to watch. I prefer gaelic football, but enjoy the mixed International rules game. The Irish can certainly improve their footy by learning from the aussie rules hand pass, which is superior, but in terms of pure skill, gaelic football is on another level to Aussie Rules. The tackle stopped the development of the aussie rules skill set, but particularly the kicking part of the game imo. The professionalism gap has closed to almost a 50-50 level playing field which bodes poorly for the aussies. That said, the tackle is a huge advantage for Australia, but so is playing with the round ball for Ireland. I wouldn't be against the idea of using the round ball for two quarters and the oval for the other two. I think the aussies will get destroyed this year, in particular by Connolly. Watch out for that name. Such a classy footballer of both feet.
It's played with a ball foreign to Aussie Rules players. Gaelic players would do very badly with the oblate spheroid, much worse than Aussie Rules players with a simple spheroid. Please adjust your brain next time.
Dustin Martin=Mick Conlan Dustin copied his style of play, only difference tho is that Conlan would get the hard ball unlike Dusty who is a cherry picker
You just know so many of these fellas were going home and treating their wives the same. Goes to show how much work is done behind the scenes now to help these guys put their anger into the aggression of the play and not take it out on others in cheap dog acts. Good watch anyway. 😅
I cannot believe that anyone could think that this is entertaining. Lots of cheap and nasty shots. Modern day players are much bigger and quicker and would inflict major trauma if they "played" like that.... and be suspended forever.... rightly so,
@@shinjuku96jackson4 don’t assume dickhead. I’m most likely older than you and have seen these players and the 60/70’s hard nuts go around. My view, is that these guys never ever upheld the Fairest component of the Brownlow. A blight on the umpires voting and the VFL at the time.
Dench steamrolling a collingwood grub for a shit hit on Alves pure Class and not reported just polished vengeance. BTW was there a bigger piece of shit in the game other than Craig Kelly.
