Congratulations on your new house 🇩🇰 btw ‘privat vej’ probably means that the houseowner must pay for the repair of the road, not the town or kommune. It is rare that it gives the owner the right to prevent others from using the road. Once the public is used to walk on a road, it can be difficult to take away that right again.
privat vej = it is actually private and you can stop people from driving on it. (but usually not walking) The municipality don't do anything and have no authority over it. Then you have "privat fællesvej" It is owned by the owners of the properties along the road and they have to pay for maintaining it. But it is still open to the general public for both driving and walking. and then you got the public roads. this is from Københavns kommune: "En privat vej eller sti ligger i et privatejet område, og der er ikke nødvendigvis adgang for alle. Private veje og stier ligger typisk inde i en større boligafdeling, institution eller virksomhed. Private veje er i modsætning til private fællesveje ikke underlagt kommunens myndighed. Derfor kan grundejeren uden tilladelse fra kommunen og for egen regning ændre på vejens indretning og udstyr. Det kan dog kræve tilladelse fra politiet. Det er grundejeren, der har ansvaret for, at en privat vej eller sti bliver fejet, vedligeholdt og ryddet for sne."
I am strangely moved by the fact that you guys have decided to make our (at times unwelcoming) country your home. We are proud to have you! Thank you for adding to all that Denmark is and for sharing your perspective on who we are. Even now that you are basically danes yourselves 😊
The fact that a road is private in Denmark rarely means that the public does not have a right of use. In fact, there are quite a few articles in the press at the moment about illegal signage and blocking of private roads in an attempt to keep the public away from holiday home areas and the like, eg in Molsbjerge and Risskov.
Generally it is fine, but given the proximity to our house, it did invade on our privacy a tad. Additionally, when we pulled our car in and out people walking would be visibly annoyed. Even though it is maintained now by all the houses that use it.
Omg, Youngs!!! This is awesome news. Congratulations on your new status!!! Homeowners!!! That’s huge!!!! Speaking for myself … Denmark just got a bit more awesome, now you decided to own your own house here. ❤️❤️
Congratulations! "Privat vej" is not what you expect in Denmark. It means that it will not be maintained by the kommune, snow will not be removed etc. All homeowners with a part in the road have to keep it out of their own pockets. We also sometimes see signs at the beach where it says "private beach", but that actually is illegal; everyone is allowed to cross that part. The only thing is that you cannot make a stop there, make a bonfire, put up a tent etc. By the way: Notice when you walk yourself and come by a house where you look at the windows: If there are things like plants etc in the windows, you actually don't really notice the people that might be inside but you see the stuff on the window sill. So if Maya feels looked at, people probably just look at whatever their eye catches first. :)
The private vej thing was a bit annoying precisely because it was so heavily used by the public. I can understand if it was a road somewhere that on a few houses were on that no one used. But the road was and is used heavily by the local public to get to Lyngby Sø as there is a path at the end of the street that leads to it. Because of that, I felt it really falls under a public road and they should be respondible for public safety not us.
@@TravelinYoung You are right that there has been a tendency to make more streets private, because the kommune can save a little money on maintenance that way.
@@TravelinYoung Actually it is possible to complain to the "Kommune" and tell them that they must take care of the road, clean snow etc. I think if more than 50% of the users of the road are not living on the road.
@@holmbjerg My kommune tried to turn a road leading to the public school into a Privat Fællesvej so the Kommune could save money. But the people on the road complain and won the battle.
@@TravelinYoung I live in Holte in a villa with our yard going all the way down to the forest. To enter our property you have to go 5 meters or so down a walking path that continues to the forest. The road we live on is what’s called a ‘private public road’ which basically means that everybody can use it but us living on it are responsible for keeping it safe etc. That’s fine since everybody living here is paying a yearly fee to have this done BUT in regards to the walking path that goes from that road down to the (public) forest is our responsibility which to me was quite surprising as it can entail a lot of work on cost quite a bit if somebody gets injured due to it being slippery in the winter and so. In Denmark it’s a good rule of thumb to just expect that every road and path is accessible by the public even if it goes through part of your property. A lot of people buying expensive villas down to the sea seem to not understand this and so there’s a lot of buyers remorse in those areas when buyers realize that they can’t block anybody from walking at the beach at their property and even sometimes they find out there’s a servitude on the property demanding free passage for the public from the street, through your garden, down to the waterfront. Overall I believe most find this to be a good thing though as all waterfront properties otherwise would have been blocked off a long time ago. I hope you continue to find happiness in our little country and hopefully we will see the next generation of your family here as well at some point in the future. 😊
Congrats you guys ;-) Nice to know that we'll get to keep You here.. Well... At least for quite some time.. Now the bank owes You 🙂GOOD for Denmark!!! US maybe lost some very good peoples there ;-) BTW. Private road IS for everyone to use, it's just not the Kommune or Stat that keeps it nice and in working order ;-) PS.. Remember "flyttebajere" It's tradition in denmark to have some beers ready for the people who helps with the moving...
Tillykke! The house you had/lived in was utterly charming, but owning a house for real must be relaxing for the mind. You kind of passed the biggest acceptance test to becoming real Danes.
Congratulations on the house. As a Dane it makes me proud to know that fine people like you guys have chosen to stay in Denmark. Sorry about the bad experience with the bank. I don't think I have ever experienced any business saying that they wouldn't talk English. Their loss, I guess.
Congratulations on your new house. Even though I don't know you personally, I just want to say that there is always room for likable people like you in Denmark. 😁😁✨🎉🎊
So happy for you guys! The joy on Miranda's face, says it all! Nu er I for alvor, blevet en del af Danmarks historie, velkommen 🇩🇰 hello from Hundested 🌸❄️
You should make the last shot of the last video shot in the current house be in the bathroom. Also: Sorry to hear about that other bank, you may want to take it up since that's an employment training-issue.
Aww, congratulations! This is awesome to hear!! I hope you'll be very happy in your new home and that you'll stay here with us for keeps. We don't wanna lose you around here :)
2:35 A few years ago, a sequence from the garden showed Allé af trees up to Sogenfri castle - and I showed the same where you lived - because I have been coming to the castle for many decades.
Fantastic that you are staying finally, and big contrats on your new home :D Looking forward to many great videos from your new home, maybe also som beertasting ;P
You guys are amazing. I miss the in-person experience of your energy. Thank you all for bringing it here and congrats on your new home!!! We'll get out to visit as soon as possible.

Congratulations. It was once a dream of mine to live in Denmark, that was back in the 1980s. I'm so happy that it could happen for you. I hope you have many, many good memories of this time.
I am local to that area, and had a strong sense, that that was where you lived…….hope and trust the ‘community’ Will let you live inpeace also at your new location…
Big congrats on the new house! I've been away from the channel for a while so much have happend, I feel lik i have a ton to catch up on :D hope you get settled in the new place quick
Congratulations with the new house. It's wonderful you settled in. Thank you for sharing your experiences. It's fun and interesting to get a new perspective on things that we usually take for granted, because it is daily living.
To get you a little ahead of time, there are also not many Danes who understand the whole process, when buying property. This is often why lawyers and real estate agents, make good money from it. So, it's not because you come from another country, that buying property can seem somewhat unmanageable. But congratulations 😊
Great news. Congratulations on your house. I am very happy for you guys, I think you have settled in so well in Denmark, that it was the last thing you needed to have your wish fulfilled here (I think) I am looking forward to seeing some videos from your new surroundings. Pøj Pøj with it (Good luck) all the best in future.
would love to hear more about the details regarding buying property in Denmark as an expat, as well as how to get the permission from the government if you'd like to buy property before the 5 year mark. Thanks for your content!
