In June 2020, my boyfriend and I took a short road trip to Big Bend National Park in southwestern Texas to see some beautiful rocks to escape our cabin fever. It was my first national park visit and definitely sparked a light in me to visit more.
We stayed in Alpine, Texas which I would highly recommend for those who aren’t into camping but a lot of activities and sights were closed due to lockdown measures because of covid-19. Not only is June one of the hottest times of year to visit the national park, but my car A/C broke on the drive down. We weren't able to fix it during the few days we were in Alpine so we enjoyed our time as best as we could in the Texas heat.
We made sure to visit:
•Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive
•Chisos Basin
•Santa Elena Canyon
•Chisos Mountains
•Fossil Discovery Exhibit (an awesome outdoor museum), •Chihuahuan Desert Nature Trail.
Unfortunately, we were unable to check out the Hot Springs Trails or cross into the small Mexican village of Boquillas del Carmen during this trip. We also checked out the town of Marfa and the Prada store sculpture in the middle of nowhere. If you’re in the area and into taking cool photos, make it out there!
Hope you get to check out Big Bend and see the beautiful sights for yourself! What sights did we miss out on seeing?
