This time in The Room of Rock we decide to see if we get our Squire Strat to stay in tune better when you use the tremolo arm, Sometimes you only have to look at it longingly and it puts the guitar out of tune. Bring on the Big Bends Nut Sauce.

Useful video but you should loosen the strings rather than using the trem as the lube won’t get all the way under.

I have a Graphtech tusq nut and Graphtech string tree on my Mex Fender Strat. Proper set up . GFS brass block. Works great until I use tremolo. Strings falling out of tune. I'm going to try out the Nut Sauce and see what happens. Also I plan to restring with Fender Bullets strings (my guitar tech recommended.) We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the informative video, my friend!

I have since fitted a Graphtech nut to the Strat (when I refretted it) and tried the guitar without Nut Sauce and was hoping the guitar would stay in tune but it didn't. Put on some Nut Sauce and now it is really stable even with the tremolo use. I think you will find it really helps you out. Good luck.

Don't waste your money. I have been using Carmex since seeing Joe Perry's tech using it on Joe's guitars. It worked fine except if you're not changing the strings and cleaning out the nut slots fairly frequently all of this viscous stuff, because it is wettish, collects dust and debris which can cause the very tuning issues you're trying to avoid. I went back to a good ol' #2 lead pencil and I no longer get that gummy sticky feeling when I wind the tuner. Go to Home Depot and buy a 35¢ carpenter's pencil. Then with the money you save go buy a nice steak.

Hi there 'Room of Rock' guy, I notice you have locking tuners on your Squier. What type are they, and did you have to drill new holes to accomodate the tuners? Cheers.
@theroomofrock6456
@theroomofrock6456 3 года назад
They were a cheap unbranded set from somewhere like All Parts, years ago. They are good and very smooth but they are a bit fiddly to lock. I would go for Vanson rear locking ones if I was doing it again. On this Strat I did have to drill out to around 10mm to accommodate.

Nice video👍🏻. (Just got some of this to give a try on my new Charvel dk24) A much cheaper solution (for the amount you get) is to use “Muc-Off Dry Chain Lube” for bicycles. I’ve not used it yet but read (on some Internet forum) that it works just as good as Nut Sauce, if not better. Just not willing to try it out on a spanking new guitar, until I’ve really tested and inspected it out first.
@theroomofrock6456
@theroomofrock6456 4 года назад
It might work, but it is designed for a much different working environment (all metal components), I would be worried about it having something in it that might damage the finish with time. I use to go and see a band called The Hamsters and Snail Pace Slime use to spray his nut with WD40 , which I always thought must be really messy!
@jazznotes3802
@jazznotes3802 4 года назад
The Room of Rock Yeah, there was quite a lot of guitarists that use bicycle chain lube on there. They said it was very safe to use without effecting the guitars finish and without discolouration to the nut. Some of them have been using it successfully for years. WD40 is a big NoNo for me 😂. But I’ll definitely give clear chain lube a try at some point.

Interesting results! How often you need to apply nut sauce? Only when you change strings? Or more often?
@theroomofrock6456
@theroomofrock6456 3 года назад
It lasted until string change. Interestingly I fitted a Graphtec Nut (which you can see me do in my refret video) and even with that the old plastic nut with added Nut Sauce was better for holding tune, so I will treat the new nut to some Nut Sauce as well. I think every time you change strings is often enough.

on my strats locking tuners.graph'TEC NUT.roller string trees..if that doesn't work I just lock the trem down....
@theroomofrock6456
@theroomofrock6456 4 года назад
This one has got locking tuners on and the next thing on my list is a Graphtec nut, but I do like the simplicity of the original design and its ease of string change. I am not a heavy tremolo user these days. In the 80's I wouldn't hit a note without depressing the whammy bar. I blame Eddie Van Halen!

@theroomofrock6456
@theroomofrock6456 3 года назад
Martin, a couple of things worth checking with a Les Paul and I would think it is the D and G strings that are giving the most problems, are the nut slots wide enough so the strings you are using, so that the string slides through without resistance if they are slightly tight you can use the wet and dry paper trick I mention in the video to widen them very slightly. The other thing is if the nut were fitted or set by a luthier or guitar tech they angle the slots slightly to aim them more at the relevant machine head. The Nut Sauce worked well on my Epiphone Les Paul and SG stopped all the pinging and clicking at the nut when tuning.
@martinforward188
@martinforward188 3 года назад
The Room of Rock yes it is the D & G. I’m taking it back to the guitar tech to see if he can correct the issue. Thanks for the videos - keep them coming! 👍
