In the old days, women never bought bags with the view they were ever going to sell them, so we just used them in a carefree way. It was much better actually.
@@AnUrbanGypsy In the 90's I remember writing hot guys phone numbers that I met in bars, in eyeliner on the interior flap of my Chanel classic flaps! before mobile phones
Love that you are talking about this…I watched both videos too! What a treat to see how easy breezy they are with their bags….I don’t know if I could get a birkin and NOT baby it myself! But that’s how they are meant to used…for a lifetime! And agreed…loved both of the ones they chose! Great topic xoxo 😘
I love using my bags, and reallyyyy use them. The wear and tear is apart of my life's story! These interviews were interesting!! I like when birkins have a well used look. Its badass as you say
I watched both of those videos as well and noticed the wear on their bags and adored it. Of course I love keeping bags super pristine but I adore when I see just how much a bag is worn as well. Great video commentary ☺️
WOW!!!! This was a completely entertaining and enlightening video! I have moved into larger bags this year, and appreciate that I am not alone in this! I also had no idea of these Vogue videos of WIMB from fashion icons!….Please share more of these! Thanks so much Jess for always sharing the most amazing new/old things!!!!🥰💖🥰
I am 5’3” size 0 , yet I have 4 Birkin 35’s. I love them, and rarely use my B 30’s. I don’t like to play Tetris and juggle things around like a puzzle. I like plenty of room for my things.
Omg babe I’m going back and getting my Gold 35 that was a regrettable sale 😬😑 Jess can you share your Hermes journey how you got to this size collection please Babe
I love big bags,SO glad to see them models in vouge with real deal🤩. Fun fact: my birkin 35 i box leather is a tad less heavy than the 30 in togo, just saying. The small one is the least used🤔. Feel more like me with 35's. I really would like to see more of that on yt. This channel is inspiring anyway, due to incredible color and style talent👍
* * * * * ** great job on this video * * * * I love that my two birkins are old and I purchased pre-loved and can just use them everyday and I don't baby them. Not sure if you have seen a picture of MaryKate Olsen or Ashley Olsen , the Kelly she is pictured with is sooooo worn out but I love it !!! The bag is torn and the corners are worn off. Maybe you have seen that photo. Well have a great week.
Jess you need to check out Theresa Roemer‘s channel she has the biggest closet in the world she’s famous for . she has a big collection of Hermès and every other brand! including Birkin 40s or 50s there huge!
Love your makeup, Jess! Yes, I've seen celebrities use their Birkin 40 as hand luggage. Somehow I think there is that expectation from celebrities? They have to look like they can afford these bags, whether they can or not🙃
I only have 30 and 35. Both from 1995. My 30 is in Gulliver and the 35 is noir box calf. Linda’s bag needs a Hermes Spa date real bad. 😆 Personally those are the best sizes for me. I am not a 25 fan at all. But it’s great to see these bags actually being used. Back in the 80s, remember, the bag was a whole lot cheaper. It was about $2000 US. Also, Hermes wasn’t known at all by the general population until 2001ish and even then, it didn’t take off in the mainstream. I like Kate’s bag too. Casual chic is the best.
This video conjured up a photo I’ve seen of Kate Moss wearing a large YSL Sac de Jour that was loosing its structure in a major way. Like someone shared above, the mindset around carrying bags was way different - I wonder if it’s because they were (likely) gifted the bags or that was the mindset overall. P.S. Your makeup looks 👌🏼
Jess I am so happy and wanted to share this with you , I just got my Birkin 30 gold on Gold and still can’t believe it .. not a secret you have been a big influencer😄
they really are beautiful bags and used to the maximum. i guess big name celebrities bring more recognition to the brand. the big black bag, though wearing at the corners, is still gorgeous.
Birkins were duds when they first came out which is why Hermes probably told her the bag was not the one for her. I read once that they were even sold on a tv shopping channel back in the early days.
intriguing! I tried to google any evidence of Birkin tv commercials but I couldn't find any info...im sure you are right though!! very interesting potential video topic!
@@ManoloGal That never happened here in the US not sure where you are, but I’m curious if Hermès would ever have been on QVC or HSN. Not trying to be snarky but I’m genuinely curious.
@@cindimams4394 I keep on saying "shopping channel" but apparently people are interpreting it as "commercial/informercial". My understanding is that they were offered on a home shopping channel including here in the US in the mid to late 1980s.
@@ManoloGal Could be true. I know I never heard of a Birkin bag in my life before Sex and the city. The bags are named after 2 huge stars one being Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco so I wonder if ever there was a time when the affluent snubbed a Birkin bag. I admit I’m pretty ignorant to Hermès never really was my taste.
I certainly can relate to Linda Evangelista and carrying around a big bag with everything except the kitchen sink. If I showed my closet with Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Fendi, and maybe a few lower tier lux bags I like. People would audibly gasp at me. Also just inherited a beautiful Chanel bag from my late Mother in-law it’s from the 90’s with the 24 plated gold. She needs a trip to a cobbler but I will use the hell out of her, and give you a germ wipe, or tissue, or a squirt of perfume, and so on. I just watched the video with Linda and was lmao at how much I was like “yep” “check” “uh-huh” and ‘that too” lol.
It's easy to be careless with an expensive piece when you know that you can get another one anytime. So the factor that enhances carefreeness is money & social status. Certainly, a celebrity (not RU-vidrs or "influencers" but real celebrities) will not have to make wishlists or kiss some SA's behind, to get lucky. If they need a new one, they'll just get it.
LOVE these two icons Jess 👏🏼👑👑 Thanks for sharing👏🏼😘 If I ever bought a Birkin it would be hers 😍Light and airy young and casual.. I’d wear it into the ground too and pretend I put that money in a shredder🤷🏻♀️LOL Fak it! (In Connor’s voice!) 🤣👏🏼😘
hmmm i agree and disagree...i dont think people collect bags to appeal wealthy necessarily...some people collect because they love to find treasure and admire iconic fashion objects
I think these icons and celebs can use their bags that way bec they can actually afford or been gifted it. They are only a very few who can really use the Birkin that way. If it's your hard earned money and have to sell your other bags to get your grail bag, most likely you baby your Birkin and will have a mini heart attack if you get a scratch..much more a hole. For my lifestyle I can only be carefree with my LV canvas. Anything more than that is just stress for me.
