Trying to revive an old Honda ATC 125 motor and transplant it into a CT90 to make a trail 125. The original 90cc engine was in fine shape, but I couldn't resist giving this a try.
Your helper is hired - he works without complaining and follows commands with a quick and determined effort. These qualities guarantee his future. Your project is amazing.
OUTSTANDING edit! - As someone else who spends HUGE amounts of time editing my videos; I can (and DO) TRULY appreciate all the cutaways etc and how ridiculously LONG the process IS to make such videos! - Great pacing; sure beats sitting through hours waiting for the person to do it step by step!
Loved the way you just jumped in and the hell with the consequences! Living the dream and getting your boy involved is always a good thing. Your style of re-using what you have appeals to me also. Subd.
My friends' dad has one of these that he bought new. I've heard so many stories of how indestructable and unstoppable that thing is. It's never been rebuilt, and it can still take a large rider, or two smaller riders, anywhere you want to go. Through mud, streams, and up steep hills; nothing stops it.
I Know life is busy and things change, I rewatched this video today, enjoyed it again, Thanks, Hope all is well with you and family, I do miss these videos, and time you spent for us to bring it all together, Thanks JEFF
This video is hysterical! I started watching it because the first motorcycle that I ever rode all by myself was my fathers 1976 Honda Trail 90. The setting was an empty fig orchard in Fresno California, the bike was a Sultry Honda Red Color, I was 10 years old, but boy was I ever, " King of the World" on that thing.
I love how you take the mystery out of things. By improvising, the way you often do, it makes it easier to understand how things work and has given me the confidence to start to take things apart and have a go at fixing them myself. I love your videos man......and your wife :D
"...one more shot at the lightning glue...." Seriously, I almost fell out of my chair... that's classic. This is a great project. Little people helpers are amazing, I actually had my daughters under my car and it's hood many times while they were growing up.
Loved the project. I'm 37 and have no mechanical skill but I am so inspired by this that I want to start a hobby of buying broke down bikes and learning to fix them. Thanks for your videos and personality.
Love this stuff! Custom valve spring compression tool... priceless! I've been tinkering for 40 years and have never seen anyone as creative as you. Definitely need to add a welder to my toolshed. You need your own show!
Every time I see a Honda 90,it reminds me of my preteen days. My older brother helped me get one for ten dollars. Which may have well been ten million for a poor boy in the sticks. Sadly it blew up before I got to take my first ride, and no money to fix it Working in the fields didn't come close for the parts. great replacement swap of the engine . I have owned bikes since then, but still would like to ride one.
If only everybody who makes these kind of videos would make them like this. Fast to the point and great editing, no messing about. Great stuff, thumbs up!
I really love the creativity and home engineering involved in these projects. You never give up on these projects and make some of the coolest things out there. Keep up the great work!
In 1965, In installed a Powroll Big Bore Kit in my own CT90. It used a piston from the Honda CB250 twin and gave 103cc's to my 86.7cc stock Honda 90 engine. It produced a quite noticeable increase in low-end torque, but excessive vibration reduced max RPM, so there was probably a DEcrease in maximum horsepower. It still was a very cool bike to have, and I wish I could find that old girl. Thanks for a very enjoyable video.
Love watching your video's, all very informative and so interesting and with a bit of humour thrown in too. Bringing dead bikes back to life is a big thrill for me as well. Keep up the good work mate.
incredible channel. love this trail 90 project. i inherited a 65 ct90 just got it running today. works nicely. keep tinkering! cant wait to see the next vid
I know this is an old YT. But I am watching for at least the second time. You are crazy-smart. How you make things from nothing just blows me away! Soldier On!
I like the way you do things like going above and beyond to make things look original or like they would come from the factory instead of just shortcuts
I love watching you work your magic! Great video! I'm not sure where you learned how to do that, but your fabrication and video making skills are top-notch!
Your videos are funny, yet very inspirational! You are doing a great job! I am not mechanical to save my life, but I am actually learning from you! Thank you, and stay just the way you are! Awesome!
One thing you need to know Although not legally required when made a retrospective law says that if it came with Indicators then they must be fitted and working to pass the MOT? So you cannot make it road legal without them.
Your kid is going to look back one day and know he had a great dad that taught him real skills, your kid in the video is the greatest part of this video
I was actually thinking about doing this same thing. I have a Trail 90, bad engine, and a few ATC 125's, but man, after watching this, I think I'll stick to getting my barn find 350X to run. Lot of work brother, but came about AMAZING! Your perseverance is contagious!
Gotta say nice job with the Honda 90 it might not have been a total basket case but close, a little money and good bit of patience and ingenuity and you've got yourself a very useful machine great job
One of the best Videochannels on RU-vid. Not just because of the specific engineering content but because this is a future time capsule in 50 years: Look at that son, we used to understand our tools and equipment !
love the vids man. i got a 1979 ct90 handed down to me from my grandfather going for my motorcycle permit in 2 weeks cant wait to get it insured and on the road! I have a decent amount of experience riding in the dirt but i have never road a motorcycle on the road ct90 seems like a nice bike to start out on
Dude, I love that you include your kids in your projects!!! Kids NEED that type of experience of working with Dad, fixing, tinkering , failing, then succeeding. Good job!
I had an old Honda Trail 90 when I was a young kid, It also had a bent intake valve. Grandpa put it in his lathe, indicated it in off the stem and banged it with a lead hammer until she was good enough. I put it back together and she fired right up and ran for several more years. Good memories!
I actually really liked the look of the ATC exhaust on there. Loved every second of this video. Can't wait to see that beast on the road. Amazing work Jake!
Happy to have discovered your videos! I'm learning about motorcycles, and looking at working on an old CT90 "postie bike", as we call them in Australia. (used for decades by the Australian Postal service here, more particularly the CT110's since I can remember).
I just got a CT90 and honestly I was just gonna fix it up as is. BUT since I'm also in school for welding/fab.... I know exactly what I'm doing for the rest of my life. Thanks for the inspiration
You and your family are awesome people, you give some hope for the average guy in his garage or back yard, please be safe and warm and peace and love for you and your family always
Thanks a lot for sharing your ingenuity and skill. Your upbeat personality and sense of humor is awesome. I gather that you've made some sacrifices to spend time with your family, and it's touching to see your little boy in the garage with you, and your patience and tenderness will give him so many advantages. Great videos, sir!
Thank you. I have made some life choices that are a little unconventional, but I don't think of them as sacrifices. Every decision involves benefits and compromises. I feel like the ones I've made have a lot more positive aspects than negative ones, so I think I'm doing ok.
@@jenniesgarage Just discovered your channel.. was considering the ATC125 for my ct. It's now been 7 yrs, probably long gone but any thoughts about the upgrade.. I'm on the fence.. was it a worthwhile swap, or would you recommend rebuilding the 90.. 🤔
Super cool machine. The Chinese 125 engines are not too bad, the metallurgy and tolerances are pretty good these days. CDI ignition too. Good luck with this groovy trike!
More videos please! Lol 😂 the way you work is Awsome man, and I'm trying to get into buying and reselling myself, your videos inspire me to want my own resell kind of business. Thanks for sharing dude!!!
Did a modded '76' model trail 90 with my boss not long ago for a charity ride. Mod list included ct125 triple clamps, ct125 forks, ct125 21" front wheel, ct125 swing arm, xl185 18" rear wheel, longer travel rear shocks, and a Lifan 150cc engine with 30mm oko carb and takegowa performance exhaust. There are a few other lesser mods as well. Many people ask why would you bother but they don't get that, like any customising, when you do the work yourself the journey is the reward and you end up with something cool and unique at the end.
You are a character 😀 i came across your seadoo project revival and got hooked on your videos. I just wish most of the mechanics i came across had one tenth of the knowledge you have. Greetings from Portugal.
What a great video. You obviously (make it look as if) you really know what you are doing. And you don't usually even buy new tools or parts! I wish I had garage space like that to do stuff like that. I was an apprentice mechanic in 1990, and did a few very simple engineering style jobs after that, but I have not retained the skills or confidence. I would be calling people every two minutes and asking how best to do such and such. Anyway, you made a great video, thanks. Oh, and your video editing skills are good, too.
whatever happened at the end, dont give up! figure something out youve put alot of effort and work into this so far im super impressed! I even learned a few tips and tricks in this video for my own projects.
Just found this Channel and I'm kind of mad at myself for not finding it sooner LOL but great video man I recently just purchased a 1969 Honda cd175 that I'm very excited to take on some off-road Adventures I like your video because you showed people how to reuse old parts that you had laying around and you gave me quite a few ideas for my bike as well thanks again
