Big Brake Upgrade for the Acura TL!

Installing a Big Brake Kit can be a (fairly) easy brake upgrade. In this video I will show how I upgraded the rear brakes. This is a rear Big Brake Kit using a custom bracket, 350Z calipers, pads, and rotors. Also I installed new SS brake lines

-A good alternative to the hub rings, for those who opt for it, is plastic ones. (much easier to sand than it is to cut aluminum ones). -Akebono rears are only recommended if you do a 14" front conversion (either via Akebono calipers or 18Z calipers)

Great video! As discussed, with your insight, a V3 (if it ever happens) will have adjusted dimensions to allow a better fitment for aftermarket/3rd party calipers. A good alternative to the hub rings, for those who opt for it, is plastic ones. (much easier to sand than it is to cut aluminum ones). Also nice tip with unbolting the hand brake cable for better clearance while cutting. edit: Akebono rears are only recommended if you do a 14" front conversion (either via Akebono calipers or 18Z calipers)

This should work for the Honda Element, rear rotors and calipers are the same. I upgraded the fronts to the stock TL setup on my 06 Element fits under 16 inch stock rims. Made a noticeable difference in braking.

Shipping soon! Sorry for delays. Will have everything shipped immediately when I get my BMW back (which is where all my calipers and hardware currently is). Just waiting on a $20 part to come from Germany and the car is good to pick up.

The normal adjustments. try to max out near the brake rotor and then dial it back one or two clicks. Then adjust at the handbrake to my liking

Damn bro I wish I’d known! I just sold complete Q7 / Touareg / Cayenne brand new calipers, slotted and drilled rotors and brand new pads. I had no clue they could go on our TLs. I would’ve hooked you and just given them to you. I had them on marketplace for awhile. The rear brakes look dope!!!

It's all good man, don't worry about it. I think the kit that base6mt sells works for a particular model Q7/ Cayenne/ Touareg (I could be wrong though, I know nothing of these cars lol)

@@thecarfiend11 Those 6 piston calipers are also known as the 18Z calipers. Found on those 3 cars as you listed. Older version is the 17Z. About the same sized caliper but with much larger caliper pistons. The 3 cars you listed also have 4 piston fronts. So, as long as it's the 6 piston version it's not hard to choose the wrong caliper.

I bet those power stop lines where 3/8-24 they will thread into a M10x1.00 fitting but will strip easy and not seal. Can get adapters at auto parts store Does the Ebrake work with those rotors?

What suspension kit do you have? I'm debating on if I should get the tien streer basis Z (the one with no dampening abilities) or pay the extra 100$ for the Tein street advance z kit.... or the function and form type 2 coilover. So many options!!! Please help master of the acura tl coilovers! I will be using 18x9.5 +30mm offset aodhan ds02 with 245/40/18... since I have to buy two new fenders anyways (thank goodness for rockauto's cheap price) rolling these properly won't be a problem if need be.

It really depends on your budget and needs. And the Tein Basis Z's don't come with Top Hats, so you have to provide them yourself and install it. Can't go wrong with TEIN for quality. FnF Type2 is good bang for buck. Personally, I'd go for BC Racing coilovers. They're on the more expensive side, but you get alot (quality and performance)

Funny enough, I'm working on a video now. For the fronts, if you have a base model, you can still upgrade the fronts. You would have to swap in a whole front knuckles from a TL-S to upgrade to the Brembo brakes. And if you already have the Brembos, you can retrofit a 18Z setup, with a specific kit

Regards, to mount the Brembo caliper you put the type s knucklet or you used the original ones.

I drive a 06 MT TL. All manual TL's come stock with front brembos. All TypeS come stock with front Brembos. If you have a base TL, you can swap the knuckle from a TypeS to install front brembos

ok, i have the base model. It was that I bought the 4-piston powerstop calipers and they don't fit perfectly on the knuckle. most likely I have to mount the knuckle of type s. because I've been researching and I haven't found anything like a bracket modification for the base model

Rears are the same for all years on the 3rd gen. Front is a different story. You can upgrade to the Brembos setup, but you need the whole spindle off a TypeS and convert everything over

There are great benefits swapping to the bigger brakes. Of course if all you do is cruise in the city then it's definitely for the bling factor. The increased rotor and piston does increase rear bias slightly. However it also does help braking performance when on the track. The larger rotor helps with heat dissipation. Additionally the rotor is vented which further improve heat dissipation over stock. I do a quick brake test comparison on my channel. You can skip straight to the end for results.

You may be right, I may never track the car. But how often I spirit drive to and from work, is almost every time. Something that's not on paper is the confidence it gives me. I can brake WAYY later than before and if I were in an emergency situation where I need to brake hard, I have a higher chance of stoppage. Cars are the worst investment lol. And mods are even worse. This swap was honestly not that much work. No extra fabrication needed. And if I really worked a little harder, I could find parts for cheap. Just my 2 cents

@@TheDerrty111 yes and I stated that in my comment. The benefits are there no matter which way you look at it. Its just the nature of modifying cars. Do you need that aspec kit? It actually does improve aerodynamics. But no, it looks nice.
