Hi Everyone! On this trip I went fossil hunting at Big Brook Park in Monmouth County, New Jersey. It was a cold day, only around 26 degrees. I made my way to the stream to try to sneak in a quick fossil hunt before the sun set. I was only hunting for about 1.5 to 2 hours but had some great finds including some beautiful shark teeth and a really nice mosasaur tooth!! The clip where I find the large shark tooth and mosasaur tooth was uncut, I left the clip original so you all get to see the fossils exactly as I found them in real time. Thanks for following along with this video and subscribe for more awesome fossil hunting trips! Thanks for watching!!

Out for an hour and a half and finds such an awesome mosasaur tooth! I'd say that trip paid off! And that's not even considering all the amazing sharks teeth you found! Wish I had places around here were you could collect this much in that little time :D

Congratulations! You have an area very rich in tooth fossils. I'm from Romania, and I just happened to find something on a beach at the Black Sea that I think is a fossil tooth of an ancient animal. I put 3 pictures of the fossil in a video, and some observations in the description. What do you think? Is it really a fossil tooth, and what kind of animal could it belong to? Thank you in advance.

Can you show me where the best spot is? When I go to big brook I find like 3 teeth maybe....I would be so grateful.

Hey bud I'm looking to take a trip down to colts neck to try my hand at finding some fossils. Beyond the videos tips, anything you can offer??? Is it better to grab pebbles from the creek bed or along the sides???? And I don't have galoshes, you think I'd have any success without wading into the water??? I'm going to drag the fiance next week for my birthday and try and find something haha. Not to bad of a trip from Clark township so looking forward to it!
@njfossils
@njfossils 2 года назад
Hey! It may be getting warm enough to wear old sneakers into the creek. But without wading into the creek is an option. You shouldn’t dig from the stream banks but under the surface of the water is fine. Other than that scanning the gravel banks can yield some good finds, although some can be picked over. You can usually hop from bank to bank by walking on dry land most of the way too
@mynameisinigomontoya8179
@mynameisinigomontoya8179 2 года назад
@@njfossils thanks for the response! So do you follow the creek from the main parking area trail or do you cross the street and follow the creek that way? If I find a single fossil, I'll consider it a win. New hobby I want to pick up so I'm absolutely excited and fascinated because I respect the rich scientific history on how old these fossils are. On top of that, knowing that portions of new jersey were beneath sea level, proven by the many teeth of prehistoric marine life is just mind blowing.

@@njfossils hey man, so I just came back from pine Brook and got a few sharkteeth and other things. One or two of them are what I believe pieces of bone, but not sure. Is there a good website that can help me narrow down what I mightve found?? My fiance found what looks like an arrowhead but we're not sure.

I've been to big Brook so many times and I have never seen a spot where the bank is so low and easy to get into. I practically have to kill myself to get down but but maybe I'm too close to the parking lot.
@njfossils
@njfossils 2 года назад
It’s tough to find spots that are easily accessible with how quickly the stream is changed by rainstorms. Even this bank which is relatively shallow is about a 15 minute hike up and down the hills and stream side until you get to the stream
@richconroy5559
@richconroy5559 2 года назад
@NJFossils I don't mind the hike, I'm just becoming an older man and don't want this fragile bag of bones to go cracking in half by falling into a brook!
@njfossils
@njfossils 2 года назад
@@richconroy5559 understood! I would recommend parking at the main lot and walking a little ways upstream. There is a lower relief bank there that I’ve had some luck at in the past. I’m not sure what it looks like now though after all these winter storms it may be gone

How is there shark teeth in a river with no sharks
@njfossils
@njfossils 2 года назад
This area of NJ was under the ocean 70 million years ago. The sharks lived in that ocean and their teeth were buried quickly and preserved. Modern day creeks cut through the dirt that buried the teeth all that time ago and wash the shark teeth back into the small creeks!
