The legendary Dr.John, Professor Longhair, Earl King and The Meters perform Big Chief in live grand finale of "Dr. John's New Orleans Swamp" on PBS Soundstage in 1974, Chicago.
And this is what make New Orleans so special it's so different from any other City around the world. I am so proud and honored to be a new orleanian! Who dat⚜⚜⚜
God YES! ⚜️Can’t believe we’ve lost so many of these wonderful people- Fess, Earl, Mac, Art, Uganda. I was lucky to be born in New Orleans in the 1950’s. ⚜️💜💚💛⚜️

They're letting Professor Longhair drive this. He was incredibly good. Had swing in his bones and his fingers were on fire. What his left hand did still makes piano players shake their heads in wonder.

How I miss those years in the Seventies when you could see Fess at the MapleLeaf the night after Booker and cross the street to Jeds and see Earl King and down to the 501 Club :) to see the Meters, Dr John and then the Nevs...they were truly the best years of my life musically. Bless them all ....their sounds will resonate through the generations as new folks discover them,
Believe it or not, Earl said he wrote this song about his mother! I heard him say that in his office- the Tastee Donuts on Prytania and Louisiana, next to the pay phone. 👍Miss him.

I used to down to jazz and heritage festival in N'awliins every year and if I had the money I would want my funeral to be like a second line. This reminds me so much of going to Tipintina's and seeing every blues player and cajun player and zydeco player and gospel singer you name it. So here's something a little different for the music that my friends listen to
What a sweet, SWEET surprise, to find this video... Fess himself musta sent this to me tonight!!! Jammin' in the clouds now... PLAY ON, Y'ALL. We L💓VE you.

Man! Bringing down the house! And so much talent there, I'm blown away, I have never seen all these guys together like that! One thing for sure a person can always find new things in music to discover!
I literally just discovered this song like I thought it may have came out a few years ago !!! A NO I haven't been under rock!!! So shocked to find out it came out in the 70's WOOOOW!!!! I wasn't even born yet!!!
I remember hearing Mac on AM rock n roll radio that year ...It must have been the right place, but it must've been the wrong time. I haven't been to the NO Jazz and heritage fest since 95 96 and 97 thanks Dr J

Shannon Warner The audience probably wasn't aware of the significance of this lineup of New Orleans music royalty. To a New Orleans audience this would have been equivalent to a jam session with the Beatles and the Stones.
DENNY R MAN Earl also wrote “Let The Good Times Roll” famously covered by Hendrix and Stevie Ray. I saw him jam with Stevie Ray on that song at New Orleans Jazzfest around 1983.

hmmm....not exactly all of the Meters...it looks like it may be Zig on drums and Art is certainly there...the guitarist they show looks like Alvin Shine Robinson, bass player does not look like George. Small things, still great!
George is the guy in white playing tamborine. Here's another clip from the same show featuring The Meters. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p5IQ0y8wllk.html
Came to similar conclusions myself. Zig on drums: can't tell. Art on B3: yes. Leo on guitar: definitely not. George on bass: I don't think so. Loved the clip all the same :)
