I just did my big chop 1hr ago. It's freeing to know I no longer have heat damaged hair. I'm just following whatever knowledge anyone has to offer. Beautiful haircut, short hair looks good on you.

I'll miss your hair. I've shaved my head before at 17yrs old (grew it out) and then transitioned and did a big chop april of last year. I started watching you when my hair became your length, so I can only say thank you for the advice on your cute styles. Good luck on your new journey.

I literally want to big chop for the same reasons as you! My hair used to be so long and thick and the other day, I was looking in the mirror and just realizing that it has hardly grown at all in the past year. I feel like hair gets stuck at a certain length when proper trimming isn’t in place. Not everyone but a lot of ppl benefit from regular dustings and trims. Every 3 months or so to take whatever damage is, off. Or even dusting if there is no damage to ensure you stop it before it starts. And to use hair shears. Regular scissors are shaped different and cause more harm than good. Nonetheless, I LOVE your haircut! But in the future if you weren’t already try incorporating more frequent and efficient trims

Tips 1. Check your water. Make sure your water isn't hard water. Hard water has minerals in it that can stop the water from penetrating your strands and moisturizing your hair. 2. Deep Condition more often and with heat. For more info please look on youtube. Search hard water vs soft water and deep conditioning with heat.

I felt a scary good when I did my 1st big chop 2/1/2016. I felt beautiful & free which was surprising to me bc I was afraid of how I'd look. I shaved all my hair off. My growth has been amazing.

I'm so glad I came across this video. I'm really ready to do the same thing because my hair is in the same state. I have trimmed parts of my hair and intended on just cutting it all down but I chickened out for the same reasons and just trying to convince myself that I can salvage the back and now I'm sitting here with the top of my hair shorter lol but you look amazing and I'm hoping my results are as gorgeous as yours!

Lol OMG you remind me of when I cut my hair...I just took some scissors and started cutting away...the first snip was hard but once I got going I got excited just like you. Only difference I wasn't into being natural at the time I was just tired of 2 different textures. I wore my wigs and weave. You look lovely. Your hair is going to thrive!

It’s been 2 months now since I’ve big chopped and I can honestly say I was soooo nervous right after because of what others might say but I didn’t care, i feel in love with how it looks, even tho it’s A HUGE STRUGGLE just to style it lol. But at the end of the day, we bald headed queens with gorgeous curls😂😂😂😂

You look very beautiful either way.. However Sorry to put in my unsolicited advice, I was in a place where I was natural for 4 years with 5 or 6 inches on my head.. I wanted to cut my hair but I realize the problem was not the hair but me. The way I handled the hair, and I buckled down and went to work, got rid of all my harmful, regressive hair habits. Within a year my hair retained 5 inches, including two trims. I believe that 70% of hair growth (length retention) is how you physically take care of your hair..since for real it is always growing. On your second journey, I wish you all the best.. I am still learning, researching and experimenting but I got down the math of breakage, growth rate and length retention..very important.

She's like me when I make the "big chop" decision: I know it's the right thing to do; I've waited to do it, and; it's time! My whole mind is made up; and it pays off later. 💙

Gurrrrrrrrrrl this is my EXACT experience with BIG CHOP last year December 10, 2018. LMBO LMBO LMBO LMBO........I AM SOOOOOO SUBSCRIBING NOW just off the strength of us having the same EXACT experience...LOL Smh I got so shear HAPPY I cut my hair so short I couldn't braid it! I LOVED MY CUT before I finished as well. My hair has grown a great deal since then so Next month December 10, 2019 I will do a length check. I am a New York State Licensed Cosmetologist so I was so surprised I freaked out at first KNOWING I GROW HAIR!!!!! LOL But your REACTION was like looking at myself and that was PRICELESS!!!!! LOL THANK YOU FOR SHARING DOLL!!!!!

My heroine!!!!! You are a stunning woman. You would be beautiful bald. We see a lot of stuff on RU-vid about natural hair and self-love, but much of it is focused on growing super long hair. True self-love is revealed when you can feel confident with very short hair. I wore my hair this length years ago and I swear, I got more compliments on my beauty when my hair was short. People literally stopped me on the street. The other bonus was that I attracted a totally different kind of man --- a more serious, more introspective, less superficial man. My short hair caused other guys to self-select themselves out so I didn't even have to deal with the BS. Although my hair is not short right now, I actually ended up marrying that kind of man, and he is totally okay with me cutting my hair off when I'm ready.
