By any chance, could you make a video about parents not accepting their child’s curly hair? My mom makes me feel really bad about my 3c curls. She tells me I look too ethnic and I will never get a job with my natural hair out. I love my curls but I often feel so insecure about them when I’m around her. She even threatened to not associate herself with me in public because of my natural hair. I’m currently saving to get my own place so I could walk around my own home without her telling me how terrible my curls look. Would love a video or a response to this. Xoxo 💕

I did the big chop in October, my hair was basically murdered by bleaching and coloring, barely had a wave in it left. So, I had it completely shaved off, I was nearly bald! But I'm so glad I did, it was a fresh start to getting my hair back to full health. Since then it's been growing like crazy thanks to liquid biotin and deep conditioning. Just yesterday it finally starting curling again, more than it ever did in the past, and that was a super exciting day! I highly recommend it to anyone who's hair needs a restart!

I just did a big chop about 4 days ago and i couldnt be happier. I had bad feedback and great feedback. I bleached my hair , straightened it and i was losing hair so bad. I had Beautiful hair everywhere i went i would get compliments but over the time i was realized i wasn’t getting compliments no more cause the damage to my hair was becoming noticeable. And i was tired of the same routine every morning yall no products was working 🥺 i had the same color and look for years it was time to let it go. It took a lot of bravery cause alot of my family was saying i would look ugly and all those years i realized i only kelt that dead hair on my head out of fear of what people would say..but one day i got the courage and i did it. And now i feel beautiful my hair does not define me but cutting it all off gave me this power i didnt know i had❤️

Yes! This is exactly what happened to me. I tried transitioning for 5 months but I felt like I was wasting my time and wasting expensive products on dead hair. No matter what I did, my hair always looked bad and frizzy that I literally had to style it 2+ times a day. It was mid back length yet I chopped it all off last June and I have never felt better! Now, when stretched it almost goes down to my bra. It’s not easy but it’s so so worth it!

I started the no heat and deep condition back in Oct and I am SO proud to say that I did the big chop! Honestly I have always been the one that would never let anyone near me with scissors like literally wouldn't ever get a trim ( think I have only gotten 3 trims in the course of 20 years...... yea) but I love your channel so much and I had a really good support system I cut all that heat damage off !

I can definitely attest to starting the transition and then finally getting fed up after a while! My hair was always straight and long, so the thought of going from that to super short was terrifying. But when I started to see my natural curl pattern compared to my damaged, relaxed ends, I decided it would be worth the plunge. Once I cut the ends, the results were phenomenal and so much better than I expected. This is definitely a challenge that will be worthwhile. Go for it!

Everything you said = 💯 I transitioned for about 7 months in 2009. Too expensive and too worrisome! I was a ball of nerves because my long, straight hair was my security blanket. In 2009, teeny weeny fros were not trendy. Natural hair was not quite trendy yet. But it was the best decision I've ever made for my hair, and I have never regretted it! In fact, I have big chopped again (and little chopped) since then! Thanks for posting! I love that you're invested in all the Curlfriends living our best curly lives!

So happy I found this. I started transitioning July 1st after SO many years of dying and straightening because I allowed OTHER people to determine what’s beautiful or not on me. My sister convinced me to really just give the curly girl a chance and now I’m happier with my hair.
@imanzein8837

running this back to what ur curlfriend shayla said in the big chop episode, its honestly just coming from a culture in which long hair is considered more beautiful than short hair, even if having long means holding onto damage. i think that this is especially true with the curly hair community, considering that some (not all) of the biggest curly hair youtubers have super long hair. even i (yes me, i have to call myself out too) find myself watching videos titled, “how i achieved waist length,” vs a video of keeping my hair healthy in general. AND DONT GET ME STARTED IF YOU HAVE CRAZY LEVELS OF SHRINKAGE which will always make your hair seem soooo much shorter than it already is. but i feel like at the end of the day its called a *hair journey* for a reason. it’s not a race and there’s no universal length goal for everyone to strive for. and i’m *so* glad that we have youtubers like bianca who are constantly enforcing these messages of just *embracing* natural hair on their channels. tl:dr - your short, curly hair is still beautiful. oh and also deep condition 💖

I’ve relaxed my hair since i was a very young child. I never honestly knew my hair can get curly. My family generally has good genetics my mom and her mom had ridiculously thick long hair. My mother relaxed my hair because she didn’t want me to experience what she did in a time where they didn’t have the right products for her already hard to manage hair. My younger sister never relaxed her hair because her hair is so much softer then mine. But anyway because of genetics despite the relaxers my hair was always long thick and “healthy looking”. Im 18 now and the past 3 years I’ve been wanting to go natural. This year I’m not at all obsessed with length and i want to cut it all off. I’ve already been transitioning for 3 1/2 months and have 3in of new growth. I don’t care anymore about length and my relaxed pieces are so high Porosity and tangle so easily. I cant believe I finally got to the point in life where I can cut off all of my hair and like not feel like I’ll be ugly. Im kind of proud of myself !!!
@celestialmorpho
@celestialmorpho 5 лет назад
My mom kind of didn’t understand why I wanted to cut all my hair of she thinks im wasting good hair but i think she’s like scared of me not having long hair considering I’ve loved long hair since i was a child but i keep telling i want health not length I’ll be chopping of damaged pieces of hair anyway 😂

YES! After 16 years of relaxing my hair, I started my transition. I transitioned for about 7 months and couldn’t handle it anymore so... on December 21, 2018 I got my big chop 😊. I’m so glad I did it! 💕

I’m currently transitioning but I’ve done 2 big chops before. I’m definitely enjoying this time around MUCH more. To each their own. My fave style is a bun and I love that my hair is still long enough to just throw it in a bun (I can also use a curly ponytail to cover the bun). I do cut off about 2 inches every 3 months though so my hair is getting “shorter” (even though my actual new growth is still coming in really healthy). If you’re not ready to chop it all off, definitely do not feel pressured to.

When I started my curly hair journey almost 2 years ago I could not get rid of my length. I did little trims at a time. Looking back, I soooo wish I would have done the big chop. My hair would be so long now. I am still dealing with breakage. I can't do a chop now though because my wedding is this fall. So ladies... do yourself a favor and do the big chop!

I transitioned for a year in 2013-2014 and couldn’t do it anymore 😂 My hair was way too long already and I wasn’t gonna keep wasting my time just like you said! As women, we have to learn how to value ourselves and not our hair length. We have to get out of our comfort zone every so often and challenge ourselves.

I transitioned slowly. I first stopped getting relaxer and just flat ironed my hair until I had 8 months of natural hair. From there i started twist outs. That worked for me and my sanity. I couldn’t big chop psychology. But my hair is thriving and healthy. I don’t regret not big chopping but it worked best for me.

I big chopped back in November and I didn’t want to at because everyone was telling me no omg it’s going to be super short, but the heat damage had to go. And honestly it’s been the most freeing thing I could’ve ever done. I was so attached to my hair. And now it’s growing and flourishing like crazy. Seriously the best the I could’ve ever done. Now that it’s grown out a bit I want to go even shorter 😂 It takes time to get used to it, I usually just leave it in twist or braids but man I wish I would’ve done it sooner

I transitioned back when I had no idea what transitioning was because I moved to Vegas and it was too hot in Nevada to straighten. I found comfort knowing I had my length. Because again before the curly hair movement started, we’ve all been raised to think ill of our texture and have fought our natural curls. I think of transitioning as a therapeutic way to embrace natural texture. When you see enough of the damage against the new growth, hopefully it moves you to chop it all off. For some people it happens sooner than other.

My hair is virgin hair, like I've never used heat in my life, except maybe like once or twice in a salon blowdry, but my hair is mostly neglected in the sense I didn't properly take care of it at all for years. In a way, starting off the journey with a good layered haircut made quite a difference for me as my curls began to form on the bottom a lot quicker than ever. I guess its a transition in a sense, but deep conditioning weekly is doing wonders for my hair. And its ONLY 20 minutes a WEEK! It's a steal

I've been going back and forth with this lately. Recently I decided I want to do a big chop, maybe a tapered cut. I've been asking my husband about some of the pics I found of styles I like. I've had long hair all my life, but now I have heat damage. I feel like now is a great time to do a big chop during this quarantine, but also we're going into summer. My issue is like you mentioned I can't put my hair in a ponytail. Which shouldn't be an issue for the average person, but I'm in the military so whatever I do has to co-inside with that at least 1 weekend a month, and 2 weeks a year. So my dilemma is finding a hairstyle that won't look crazy in my uniform.

I’m digging my short ‘do! And let’s be clear - I’ve had a relaxer for about 30 years(!). And while it wasn’t really damaged & it was easy to care for, I decided to see what my natural texture was. And I love it! I feel so badly that I didn’t even know my own hair all these years - it’s like meeting myself for the first time. My cousin chopped off all of her hair.. It was long and straight, it even looked very healthy but she wanted curly hair.. She chopped off that long beautiful hair now she has gorgeous curly hair! In 2 years time her hair was almost back to the same length as before.

I did the big chop a few months ago after dying it horribly. I am so happy now that my hair is growing out better and I am able to take care of it right.

I was born with naturally curly hair, I was obsessed with straightening my hair luckily I didn’t have heat damage or straight curls, about a year I ago I heard of this “safe way” to color my hair with peroxide and baking soda, and I’ve always wanted lightened tips, so I did just that but I lightened it up to my shoulders. Throughout the new year with my ombré hair I realized how curly the top was but how dry and damaged the bottom was, it felt as if it was horse hair. I tried treatments and all of that but all that did was benefit the top of my hair and make the bottom even more dry. Just a couple of days ago I invested in a Deva cut and cut off all the damaged hair, so my hair went from my waist to my shoulders. Now my hair is in much better condition and I now have the defined curls I never knew I had and I LOVE IT! Another accomplishment I made was I went a whole year without straightening my hair! #Curlygirl 💖👩🏽‍🦱🤩

I sorta got a big chop. Before I got it I was transitioning. And then I cut it up to my shoulders at the end of feb 2020. And now I’m just transitioning 😭. You can literally take a strand of my hair and at the bottom they’ll be little wave and somewhat curly then the middle is completely straight and then the top part is curly.

I definitely transition. When I cut my hair I used to cut a lot. Now my hair is healthier than ever. Thanks to deep conditioners & no heat

I buzzed all of my hair off. Decided I wanted to start fresh and new with my curls. No more straightening it or coloring it. Love being natural. Did the big chop in Feb 2018 and now my curls are shoulder length. Proud of my curls.

I started transitioning almost 4 years ago and I do not regret it. My hair is healthy, long and defined and I learned so much about my hair. The only problem that I had was the weather in my country because all year around is humid.

I’m getting my mom to join me on the natural train that I’ve officially been in for over a year (thanks to your videos), and she was thinking about doing a Keratin treatment to ease her curls, not knowing what it really was. I had to tell her that it’s not a good idea to do that and she has followed my advice as far as not going through with the Keratin treatment. So score for the Naturals! 😁

I transitioned a year ago almost and for the first month my hair would barely curl but it wasn't in need of a big chop. After that first month and doing deep conditioning and buying better products my hair curled right back and had been fine ever since. I did get a trim though after about 3 months to get rid of split ends. All thanks to your channel!!

OMG, I'm that person! I grew an inch, cut an inch for about a year. Then, in December, I decided to just cut everything. My hair is now shoulder length and IT WAS THE BEST DECISION I HAVE EVER MADE!

I did japanese straightning on my hair starting at 17. I realized at 24 I wanted my hair healthy and I did what I called a mid chop, because my hair was butt length and I cut it to the collar bone and now I'm considering cutting to my shoulder it's true it's contagious. I'm 26 now. I understand the length thing but really guys I feel better

a year ago, i had what i called a big chop (i didn’t know “big chop” was a term or anything about curly hair at the time) cause i went from long hair to between shoulder and chin length hair. i did this because i had done the keratin treatment once and never continuously did it again so my curls were still growing (thank god) but my mid-drifts and ends were straight or wavy. i had two textured hair and didn’t know how horrible it looked until i lifted my ends behind my head until it looked like my ends were at my shoulders and started considering getting it cut. I did it, and my mom did it cause we’re cheap, and it well and i loved it. now i’m focusing on how to manage my curls and moisturize permanently frizzy hair pieces. sometimes when i wash my hair, i can smell the smell of when you wash out straighten hair (ya know, that smell?) and know i’m finally doing something right.

The majority of my natural friends got big chops. And I wish I could. But I have scars all over my head from past surgeries. So I chose to transition. Granted my hair grows super fast. My hair didn’t look cute for like two years. But for me that worked. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I did a transitioning for a while then I did the big chop in may 2018 to try out a new hairstyle. I'm really happy that I did my big chop and can't wait for my hair grow back and longer than I had it.

I did a big chop 5 days ago.. The first 2 days I was so scared when I needed to walk out the door. But after watching this video, I'm just very proud off myself! Nobody in my family tought I would cut off all off my hair because my hair has been the most important thing in my life since.. I WAS BORN. But now I realise I don't want to have a ugly bun. I rather have pretty short curls! Now every time I leave the house I'm just proud. P.S Loveyou

So I have about 4-5 inches of my natural curls and another 4-5 inches of lose curls and the only reason why I haven't big chop is because I need my ears covered from the coldness of the desert 🏜️!! I'm waiting for a bit warmer weather so as soon as the nice desert weather starts I'll probably big chop but as of now I'm trimming every 8 weeks and I've been strictly using oils and rise water I've liked it so far!

i big chopped in 2017, best choice ever. i am one of those women who tried to transition, started in 2014, couldnt take the two textures. my hair is now thriving. i have low porosity medium density coarse type 3 hair, literally. i have all of type 3 curls scattered throughout my head, it can be a pain sometimes. lol but i love my natural hair =)

all of bianca's videos have helped me so much. I used heat for about 3 years and last March I started the curly girl routine and it put my on the fast track on getting my curls back! I did a halfway chop, my hair was just about at my chest and I chopped about half my length off! since then ive trimmed my hair every month to maintain my hair!

I did big chop in 2015. My hair was suuuper dead (I got just one photo without wig or extensions and that was just horrible). I cut about 11 inches (28 cm) and went from bra strap lenght "straight hair" to circa ear lenght and curly. And I think that was best thing I could do... But that time I was so unsecure about this lenght and curliness that I don't have any photos with short hair. When I think about it now I realize that I knew so little about taking care of curly hair that I almost f**ked up everything again - but well - I got some luck - I was allergic to all shampoos and conditioners - exept super natural ones (you know, everything had to be silicone-, SLES/SLS-, paraben-free etc.) and that probably saved my hair and finally I joined curly hair community ^^

I transitioned for like a month and noticed I had curls at my roots and mid length but then ends was about 6 inches dead straight. Sooooo I chopped that off 😂 it went from just about my bum, to just past my shoulders. Best decision I ever made feels waaaay healthier and seeing some (okay 1😂) ringlet curl I had as a child coming back!

I love you Bianca. You seriously changed my life! I committed to your #noheatchallenge in the summer of 2017, which is when I found your channel. My straightner went in the TRASH! You stressed the importance of deep conditioning before you even released the #deepconditioningchallenge, so I committed to that one from the beginning of my journey, too! I started chopping damage off bit by bit, then got a devacut, and then another. I now have virgin hair and my curls and waves are thriving. I literally thought I had 2b hair in the beginning. It's now mostly 3a.. and I owe it all to you!

This video is a good follow up to the last one. I like these challenges. The no heat challenge was so easy for me because I have never used heat and still don’t. The deep conditioning challenge really helped. I had never deep conditioned because my hair isn’t dry and perfectly healthy so I didn’t think I needed it. My hair is much curlier now. I had short hair at the beginning of 2018 and now it is shoulder length. I won’t be doing this challenge but am looking forward to next year’s challenge.💕
