WOW, have you ever seen a band interupted and then pick up where they left off like that? Unbelievable! now thats a BAND! i'm stunned to silence every time i watch this. Appreciate folks! one of the best live bands of all time.
I was there right up front. Still trying to find me. The problem was with the bouncers vs the fans. Their was 3 at least three fight during the show. Stuart calmed things down for a bit by stopping the show. Outside of this it was the best concert I've been too. THANK YOU!!! FOR PUTTING THIS UP!!!
Stuart was happy, singing about strife. I don't listen to BC much anymore. Especially The Crossing or Steeltown. It's just too painful for me. Those records saved me and Stuart isn't here. I hope that Tony, Bruce and Mark look at these posts. When I was just turning 17, I purchased the Crossing. Strange how these posts don't as much reflect the 'when' as the 'what'. Hearing 'Inwards' when I was 17 was exactly what I needed to stay alive, especially later in '85.
glad to know fans still exist. Inwards was absolutely shocking to me in late 1984 when I first heard it. It was the first real anthem song to my mind and one that related to days of past, to heroes, to the working man, to struggle and strife, to the grand challenge of life. I was blown away, a poor 16 year old kid in Canada. Man, I grew up fast and BC changed by life, positively, forever. Stuart will always be with me.
mongo88now88 great tribute, I saw them live twice they were the best band I ever saw live. Still saddens me today Stuart not being here but his music lives on, still have their music blasting out in the car going to work.
I might be mistaking when Stuart stopped playing and went to the crowd was that Jeff Healy that was speaking to him before he spoke to the guy with the beard he was such a class act it was absolutely brilliant how he continued to play the rest of inwards thanks for sharing never seen it before brought back many good memories of them playing the capitol theatre in Aberdeen on New Year’s Eve what a great way to welcome in the new year 1993 🏴👍😊
If Stuart Adamson was still around he would still be making music like this. How after the interuption can you just restart the song so perfectly. Music is sadly not like this anymore.
Superb, Classic Adamson solo here. The way they pick the song back up as though nothing had interupted the performance just shows what first class musicians they were / are. Thanks for putting this up and sharing.
Mark, Bruce, Stuart and Tony. Thank you for sharing your songs with us. This song takes me back to the BC gig at the Birmingham NEC in December 1984, i had only days before become a father, now that child has made me a grandfather, where the f*@k have all the years gone?
I am impressed with their live performance - never knew they had such band energy as a whole, and love Stuart's athletic jumps. He looks natural doing it.
True and also the opening of this song...the run up...is mind blowing When they jump into that main riff...will never forget the first time I heard it n many years later it still kills ...ridiculous level of talent with this man Stuart
@mongo88now88 Beautifully said Mongo. You articulated better than I could have what this band and Stuarts music has meant to me and will always mean to me. Cheers from California.
It's mind boggling how these guys weren't more than a one-hit wonder here in the U.S...how could it be that at least a few more songs didn't make it here? I like that in this video Stuart immediately stopped at the sight of something not appropriate going on in the audience...kinda sexy.
Man what was the crowd on? Constant fighting! This was Big Country at their best. Unacceptable that certain hooligans in the crowd were disrupting this song.
an oddity, dunno if it was part of the set or if the song created a fighting mood, but the very same thing happened at Glasgow Barrowlands on the tour that same year! R.I.P Stuart, sadly missed
Only saw this band play live once...and this was the gig. Legendary as were many of those summer time gigs at Pier 86 in NYC (owners of the new condos built in the are had a big influence on killing this venue).
For years Stuart was one of my musical idols, with his contributions to a book called "Play Rock Guitar Now!" being one of the most important things I ever learned. Seeing him here shows that there so much to look up to him for.
so powerful live, wow. this debut blew my mind as did many in the 80s. the decade when great music went underground.. forgotten debuts, the hurting, soul mining/burning blue soul, two wheels good and this.
Good man Stuart! I could see it in his face the moment he realized how rowdy some in the crowd had become, and I admire that he stopped to do something about it.. RIP Stuart. You left us all missing you.
The first time I saw this, years ago when the video came out, I was struck by how quickly Stuarts face drops when he realises whats happening. Such a concerned look. I couldn't stop watching it. I think I wore that part of the taoe out. I wish it would come out on DVD. I have heard before that Bruce used to get annoyed with SA for stopping songs and other things, but hey, there were in a band for the best part of 20 years, so they're allowed the occasional spat.
Big Country without Stuart is like Thin Lizzy without Phil. Im not saying he was the only important member but when your such a unique and original frontman and performer like them they cant be replaced.
@dmbandvids Nah, that was no act, watch again the reaction on Stuart's face when he realizes something terribly wrong was going on. He jumped down off the stage to ask the security guards what the deal was. It was serious enough for him to stop and remark how stupid it was...whatever "it" was. It doesn't seem like Stuart was the "diving into the audience" type. You want to see diving, check out early vids of Peter Gabriel's Lay Your Hands on Me...he literally dived into the audience every time.
Don't mean to jump in, but.. I can attest to him doing this at multiple shows, throughout the tour, at this exact spot during the perfomance of inwards. Is it a negative? nahhhh he felt purpose in condemning violence. Sadly nobody back then anticipated their words, and ACTS would persist forever to be analyzed on 'the internet', unfathomable at the time
@kwt4041 Ok well, I only know the Chills (great band!) and I really don't hear the similarities you speak of. I guess Big Country's guitar sound is mainly what has always sounded very unique to me. I'd love to check out the other two bands you mentioned though. I'm a big fan of the Chills and the Bats. Any other Kiwi bands you'd care to recommend? Cheers.
I feel very sorry the they made this music in the 80s i think if they had made this stuff in the 60s or 70s it would have been a massive succes instead of just becomeing a cult sensaition. one of the best albums of all time.
@Coppertunes At the end he actually says "This is er, about something a bit tasty...it's called 'Inwards' and this is the end section..." Stuart often liked to refer to things that were good as 'tasty' :-)
@BC1000stars Your right. BC1000. I even speak with the same east coast Scottish tongue as Stuart & I just couldn't for the life of me make that bit out !! Well spotted ;-)
