Stuart, Bruce, Tony and Mark interviewed by Alison Craig at The Pars' East End Park, Dunfermline about their new album The Buffalo Skinners and life in Big Country in the years leading up to its release.
A terrific video with interesting (and funny - as is the norm with a lot of their interviews) answers from the band.
The clip is interspersed with sections of Big Country video clips.

Enjoyed that very much. Thank you for posting that BC1000Stars. Loved BC; left their mark on me and others for ever. Went through a few years ago with my dad to Pittencrief Park in Dunfermline and saw the memorial bench that had been placed there to remember Stuart. When its my time to fall off the mortal coil, as it where, I want on my gravestone; "some days will stay a thousand years, some pass like the flash of a spark, who knows where all our days go". Thank you Mr. William Stuart Adamson, Bruce, Tony and Mark for shaping my teenage years. You've left your mark on me forever and for that, I thank you. Stay alive!!

Holy smoke what a great documentary- keep finding new stuff about this band that I never knew existed!! - Best quote “certainly wouldn’t do the tour without the gigs “. Mega song to finish with the credits -Ships - what a beautifully crafted song

Not just a group of amazing musicians but possibly one of the best comedy acts in rock. I love how Stuart offers a deep, respectful explanation of why they left Phonogram, and when asked the same question Tony just says "They were shite" 1:52 21:02 Mark cracks me up with: "We certainly wouldn't do the tour without the gigs." But the moment I absolutely lost it was 14:48 when Bruce calls Tony a human loofah XD

Really interesting insight into a wonderful group. I saw them for the first time live around when this programme was made, with my first proper girlfriend at Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

Dunfermline* yes back when I was young fan and before I had heard it spoken, I used to say it "Dunferm-line"

Big country should be up there, time will see tell , seen them 7 times a lot at the playhouse Edinburgh , in the 80s , barrowlands and the new year gig that was on TV miss the big man

Sadly, this album was mostly Americanised shite, as is now the UK as a whole. And when you think of where Stuart went in his last months and years, one can only be desparately disappointed and saddened with his choice. Nevertheless, the utter joy (dance like no one can see you) that was Big Country is precious indeed. I continue to follow them now- not what they were, obviously, but a lot of the joy is present. Like a garden in the forest that the world will never see.

According to Ian Grant, Stuart was offered Peter Wolf, Ted Templeman (Van Halen fame) and another i forget. Stuart himself chose Peter Wolf, who botched the recording of PIOT and undoubtedly harmed the band's collective confidence. If Stuart had done his research he'd have found that Templeman's philosophy was exactly the same as Stuarts: "just throw up the mikes and leave them to make the music.". IF Grant's story is the truth. However, Stuart, in this interview, never addressed why he chose to Americanize his singing accent, which may have contributed to the band's decline in success.

Flame of the West didn't go down well with the American critics. That's why STEELTOWN bombed. Personally that was a better album than the crossing

Too many singles released that were at best bside material. For the life of me Damascus was up there with STEELTOWN and feck all promotion. Even critics praised it.

Why did Mark leave the band?

Stuart broke the band up in mid 1989 although it wasn't announced as such. Mark then booked in other work contractually. When Stuart changed his mind and reconvened the band, Mark was unavailable due to his recently signed commitments.
