If only East of Eden would have gotten a push in America... yes, I wish but it couldn't have because that song and album bespoke the seriousness of this extraordinary band. They could no longer be successfully marketed as pop mainstream despite the early success of the Crossing and its singles. However, had Wonderland been the single after the Crossing material faded, I believe the pop chart success could have been sustained until Look Away took over. After that single the schizo confusion about direction set in and everyone lost confidence until finally Fragile Thing got scuttled and the ship finally sank. Serious albums highlighted by pop hit singles would have been the winning ticket. Stuart had the ability to accomplish that but he got bad advice all along the business line. Had he connected w/ his interior Seer figure, things would have gone better. True for all of us, I'm sure.
At the 5:05 mark, Stuart says, "Sometimes simple's best." Makes me wonder if this was the impetus for one of my favorite lesser-known Big Country songs, "Simple's Always Best."
