Cold starts on a big engine that has a pony engine as the starter don't make for interesting viewing due to the little pony engine drowning out the sounds of the main engine.

At 1:55 you're wrong . It has to compress a air / fuel mixture . Compressing just the air then injecting the fuel will do nothing .

That's how a diesel engine works. It's fundamentally different to a spark ignition engine - the operating principle is completely different. The text on the video is correct - there is no fuel present during compression.

Used to start 14 case 4 trax in produe bay, December, at - 40 F . heat engine till oil drips off dipstick in 4 seconds.

We put a parachute over them used a weed burner in a pipe with a bend in it.

Some diesels don't stop smoking and sometimes especially 73 series Detroits smoke more when running

Displacement-wise, the largest are fourteen cylinders. Overall cylinder count, I believe the Cummins QSK120 takes the cake with 20 cylinders, though I could be totally wrong.
