Taken from 'Blood Of The Daleks' by Steve Lyons. Produced by Big Finish.
My first attempt at a 3D CGI animation.
SYNOPSIS:
"The crashed ship. The one Tom Cardwell saw all those years ago. And you borrowed its technology, didn't you? Maybe even found a Dalek or two in the wreckage. Dead, but intact. And you began to turn human beings into creatures like them. You did that? I'm right, aren't I?"

@@user-dq9is6nx1w yes the ultima daleks rolled up to the street in their 94 talking about being the new big bosses. But instead of the original taking out the new ones like in this one. It's the new one winning and killing the old.

Loving your design of the RRR Daleks. In this case the "redesigning" of the Daleks is ok as within the story they are different Daleks created and designed by someone other than Davros, and you've kept the design of the real "pure" Daleks to their iconic look. I listened to this audio a few months ago and didn't imagine the RRR Daleks half as good as this. Kudos.

I love the design for the Martez Daleks, when I first listened to the Audio drama I had expected them to look beaten down and clunky, but, this is better then anything I envisioned.

Awesome adaption here! It amuses me that I could almost see this as a conversation between the RTD Daleks against the Paragdin Daleks of Victory... Great work!

Thought the NPD's looked a bit better in Asylum with their metalic paint job rather than the original teletubby look. Still not a fan of the design, though. Far too bottom heavy. There's an online comic, Second Empire, that has some brilliant designs. Highly recommend. (But it's now passing 450+ pages ...)

@Sp8d8 Thanks! The arms are combined gun/manipulators. You can't see them too clearly on here, but each arm ends with five 'fingers'. I had tried making the RRR Daleks have two eye-stalks, too, but it just didn't look right. To be a Dalek it really just has to have the single eye-stalk. And flashing ears - even if they are a pain to animate! :)

@E101ification Thanks! It was a struggle trying to design something that managed to retain the familiarity of the original design and yet be still different enough to be, well, different! For instance - put two eye-stalks on the design and you instantly loose something inherent about them. And, of course, I was limited by the sound-effects which also hint at the same basic design.

Wow, this is really cool! Its big and ambitios and a full version would look stunning.The red rocket rising Dalek design is really innovative! But be careful! People who redisign Daleks often attract Mad who fanatics who are obsessed with the purity of the old Daleks! Lol, but seriously this is awesome. Well done.

@LaughingPsycho Thanks! This was the first video I did, and hadn't got the hang of optimising the lighting/shadows against the render time. I may re-do this one day.

And I'm happy ^_^ Considering that was your first attempt at an animation it was pretty good. The RR Daleks are very cool. I was wondering where their weapon was and was a little like OMGTHEY'VEGOTFOUR!! Nice work

If you listen to the commentary track on Victory Of The Daleks, and watch the extra about the design, he says that the actualised prop doesn't look quite as good as he'd hoped when the came up with the idea. The new 'metal paint' look used in Asylum made them look better, though, IMHO.

@SuperDarthVader1 No, it's not me. All my Doctor Who videos are based on the audio productions from Big Finish. So they'd sound like Nick Briggs with it being Nick that's doing them! :)

It's a cracking story, isn't it? I normally render out at 1024x576 as I find it the best balance between render-time, quality, and file size. My upload speed isn't the worlds best, so I try to keep the file as small as I can away with. I may redo this one someday, but I'd probably do it from scratch as I've learnt quite a bit since this first attempt. (Like getting the lamps flashing automatically and not done in post-production!)

The 'arse-hatch' (brilliant phrase!) wouldn't look too bad if they moved the neck back a bit and made the dome a tad bigger. Or just make the whole thing far more angular and really tank-like. You can tell from Gattis' extra on the DVD that he meant well with the redesign but at least they've been honest enough to admit it failed.

Where did you get the design of the new daleks from? Was it from the story/surrounding media, or did you come up with it off your own head?

Made it up. Blimey, this video is nearly 7 years old. Wonder what it would look like if I re-did it today? (Wonder what it would be like to have that much free-time again? :) )

Well, at least the bronzies are back to being the standard model; the NPDs are now just an officer class. Thank GOD. Or Davros. Or an outraged fanbase that protested violently to the "redesign". Whichever. You know, if you made the colours more subdued, removed the arse-hatch, gave them a more mechanised feel, and made the drones a grey/silver/gunmetal colour (anything but fire engine-red), the NPDs might actually be tolerable. But they haven't done that, so I'm sticking with the RTD models. T

Where did he admit failure? The Daleks are the Daleks no matter what they look like. With a show with a main character who is constantly changing, it's impossible for the show never to evolve with it otherwise the show would get stale. The new Daleks are awesome. Bigger equals badder. In fact, they're scarier now than back in the bronze days.
