It's amazing how many RU-vidrs are now showing your exact techniques on their channels. I even see the crank baits now being used in the surf(same general area too)

@CookingandFishing 22 дня назад
Some do give me credit which is unnecessary but appreciated. Others want to pretend they came up with the light single jig/JBs/CBs for fluke which gives me a chuckle but it's all good. Not everyone can come up with original ideas, and by the time they upload a couple of videos I'm on to the next thing :)

Finally a cooking video! Always learning from you, so thanks. I’ve tried the spinner a few times and tbh I think it feels slightly too heavy. . I’m sure the slow fall is killer -but it feels very weird to me after getting used to the 1/4 jig head/6” jerk shad combo. I just feel really confident in that. I use the 7’6 ML-M Tatula. Rated up to 1/2oz. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Haha now it feels weird NOT having that spinner thump my rod tip...hey it's all about confidence - I don't always use the blade there are situations the blade can literally and figuratively slow you down. Hopefully something I'll address in a future video!

I drop pins on google maps - any pier/beach/public access spots, then usually I show up and start casting - that's the best way once you have your technique dialed in.

Nice recipe - going fishing tomorrow morning so will try it! Ordered the blades to try those too - I’ve been using inline freshwater spinners (3/8 oz double blade panther martins with the treble hook replaced) for a couple years now for fluke with success. You fish them differently than 1/4oz jig/gulp. With the gulp, these blades combine best of both worlds so excited to try! Do you get a more bluefish bycatch? Sometimes that is an issue with the spinner as the summer moves along
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 21 день назад
Not saying a bluefish won't chop it off but I've been lucky - lost zero blades to blues this year so far. Most of my blade casualties were short fluke ripping it off lol

Once again fishing lake placid 😊 really love to see techniques for out front rough surf
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 21 день назад
Yeah it's a pier there's not going to be waves crashing onto it. Rough surf it's the same technique you just need to adjust to wave action and most importantly wind. Sometimes all you can do is pitch-cast 30ft at w/e angle the wind lets you. I have videos going over how to deal with wind but honestly if it's blowing 20+ in any onshore direction even if you can jig perfectly the bite sucks.

I just use the same rods I use from shore, but if you wanted a longer rod the Labrax 90ML or Dialuna 90ML are very nice and can throw slightly heavier weights up to 1/2oz jigheads + gulp if you're dealing with a moon tide current (but generally 1/4 - 3/8oz is all you need)

I'm perplexed re: spinner blade. How do these not get immediately bitten off??? Aren't we just substituting lost spinners for lost Gulp tails??? If there was a wire shaped like this --------> or THIS --------o to push through to "hook" on the hook or all the way to the jig head where it could be secured along with the jig head with a clip...
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 20 дней назад
It started off as an idea to save/repurpose gulp baits with missing tails, but now I use them for their own sake most of the time. The problem with a long wire that connects to the hook is it kills the action of the gulp. Check the underwater footage of the jerkshad with and w/o blade attachment moving through the water - there is a lot of tail and body shimmy and a through-wire keeper for the blade will kill that movement. Anyway, they are reasonably durable but yeah you can lose 3 on 5 shorts or you can catch 10 keepers on 1 blade attachment - usually it's somewhere in between.
@frankschannel2642
@frankschannel2642 19 дней назад
@@CookingandFishing Maybe 15 lbs. braid on a needle, passed to the jig head? I dunno. Here on Long Island some days the fluke just gobble the Gulp tails even if you drop back and give them ample opportunity to take the whole bait & hook. Happened to me all day on 7/2/24 and that somehow led me to your video...Definitely going to try your recipe though! Looks amazing.
@CookingandFishing
@CookingandFishing 19 дней назад
@@frankschannel2642 part of the solution is to never, ever "drop back" and "let them eat." Any fish that couldn't inhale a 6" jerkshad in a split second is a short, and a small short at that, and you end up gut/gill hooking healthy shorts over 16, 17".
