Are the "youngins" disrespectful or are you just not the target audience of mainstream hip-hop anymore? This is a tale old as time ... the old generation hating on the new generation because the world is changing and the old-heads can't adapt. The way y'all look at artists of today is the same way the older generation looked at y'all when gangster rap in the 90s became mainstream. Just accept your time is up and the kids are doing things differently. If things stayed the same then the music would become stagnant and stale, don't be bitter about evolution.
Trev Scott idk if that’s completely true because a lot of the trends nowadays come and go. social media plays a huge part in this, like he mentioned. they didn’t have social media back then
Big Krit is an amazing artist but if you listen closely he sounds just like pimp c mixed with big boi from outcast like gipp is saying these guys sound to much like other artists.
@@mbellishm True I was thinking the same. He's not really original from a sound standpoint. Really don't even have to listen closely lol. Amazing artist...but that originality Gipp was talking about.....I feel you. 💯💯
If you sound like a mix of big boi and pimp with a 3000 mine frame coming from the south with a SSIPP accent you got me bent if you don’t think that’s not original and in that case cole Sind like naz mix with meth to me and Kendrick got a mix of ice cube snoop with 2pac mine frame but that’s just me 🤷🏾♂️
mynameis mynameis No one sounds like André 3000 besides Kendrick at times. It’s not easy to imitate his flow and barely anyone is making that kind of music anymore.
mynameis mynameis Yelawolf sounds nothing like Andre and B.O.B also didn’t either but I can see why you say that. Kendrick looked up to Andre and you can tell in some of his verses
Lets be honest! The only reason people keep wanting Andre 3k because they rarely see or hear from him. Andre is ok but he is not that good. Scale of 1-10 Andre is like 6 or 7 on his best day.
Most artists are just being lazy they just taken off of somebody else instead of creating their on lane. This is why people like Lauryn Hill, Missy, Maxwell, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott and some others can stay away for a minute and always have a following waiting for them to come back, because their naturally creative and have their own lane.
Gipp remind me of my Homie "Country Boy". He from Atlanta originally but lived in Philly bout 10 years now and still sound like he just moved from down South yesterday.
OG Gipp dropped some jewels in this interview. I hope all young artists paid attention to what he said about Cole and Kendrick, creating songs, and what really makes a star
My Brother You Hit The Nail On The Head. Change Is Constant. The Person That Got Me On The Road To Change And Self Discovery Was Bruce Lee, He Turned The World Upside Down. He Died In 1973 The World Is Still Reeling And Rolling Because Touch So Many lives. Even In 2020 .
Kendrick and Cole are definitely in a caliber of their own when he said the record label gets in the artist’s ear and have them questioning things, I instantly thought of Megan and that Roc Nation/300 situation
And they are both trash. Like Nas said in 2006: " Hip hop....hip hop... IS DEAD" Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, EPMD, Chino XL, KRS-ONE, ATCQ, Heiroglyphics, Souls of Mischief, Big L, ODB... get woke.
Habeev07 no disrespect to non of them, but he clearly mention J Cole and Kendrick because they still hold hip hop elements in a time frame where the industry focuses on trash rap
Hip hop right now is saturated with too many snakes, gatekeepers, and Target shooters. Andre would be drowned out by all the B's regardless of dropping a world stopping album. Facts
@@detroitbadboy313 have you heard James Blake ft Andre 3k What's the catch, and Sorry w. T.I.? He himself explained why he doesn't want to do music as much as he did before. Yes he's a legend, yes the fanbase is supportive, but he's not gonna put himself in harm's way walking back in the spotlight again.
Bruh, skilled rappers of his skill drop successfully all the time. Andre literally has legend status. Old heads, hiphop heads, and a bunch of other folk would still eat up an Andre album
PERFECT ending cap with that last nugget of wisdom. Gipp always was an old wise man in a young man's body. Twirling his long moustachios and making calculations while his students fight the enemy.
Big Gipp just shared a precious gem I wish we knew as kids. You don't write your verse until you get the chorus and the hook down. That's real songwriting. A lot of people in the 90's just wanted to have some dope lyrics. Then what's the subject? Every great song has those major elements taken care of.
What he said about artist getting signed based off of their followers and Facebook and LifeStream s*** is so real. It sucks. The people with actual talent get overlooked because they're not social media trolls.
I met Gipp and the whole Goodie Mobb in Houston at the Astro Arena in 1994/95. I stopped him and asked " Is That White Gold?, He said Yeah.. Meanwhile, CooJo was mean mugging me. lol
I agree with everything he said EXCEPT the biting when it comes to cadence and flows. Virtually every song you've ever heard is in 4/4 time (common time). There ain't but so many cadences and flows you can experiment with. Write a rap in 5/4... Shit just got hard af didn't it? Hell... Most beat makers don't even attempt to make a beat in odd time signatures.
Blue Bankroll Army no it doesn’t. Chromatic scale has nothing to do with time signature and how many beats are in a measure to extend/shorten your cadence and flow. Two different things if you truly know about music theory. Don’t come on here talking out ya ass.
Blue Bankroll Army I play an instrument and I rap and mix my own music. Took choir classes and all that... you’re not finna act like a nigga don’t know what he talking about and redirect MY points to sum bull YOU can understand.
Much respect to Gipp..part of a LEGENDARY hip hop group... But, he MUST undetstand the game has EVOLVED..just like ALL THINGS..if you don't EVOLVED, you will be passed up...
Say that was some real free game he gave away at the end. That's why the great's damn near were doing ballads whether two minutes or 6. The meat is in the discretion you choose to display. Not in the image you selectively (have) chosen to imitate
Last year, I saw Big Gipp, last year at L.A.X. It's crazy because my wife and I connected from San Francisco to L.A.X. en route to Atlanta. He was on his phone the whole time, just laughing and joking. Lol
All facts! I’m 24!!! Considered a youngster!!! Most ppl would assume I listen to what’s on the radio because I enjoy hip hop and my age!!! But it’s garbage!!! It’s a dam shame! The way I look at it!!! Wayne is to blame!!! He was and is extremely talented...but his lifestyle, look, and MOST things he would say on a song are the things that transcended into the younger people...he was the first to look like that, sound the way he did...he was so big that there are literally “artists” who sound almost exactly like him...and the crazy thing is they don’t even write good lyrics foreal...just a bunch of bullshit over a beat...it is definitely all hype!!! Hip hop is dead...old heads don’t wanna say it...there’s too much bullshit saturating the market! Bullshit hype took over!
Spot on. It's all about getting credit in other to get clout. Once they run out of those credit facilities, they are indebted to the system that gave them those facilities in the first place,...back to square one!
The problem today is there are a million rappers. I guarantee any sound you come up with has already been taken because it’s just too many rappers out.
BIGMONEY MEDIA yeah I feel you. You have surf youtube so hard to find quality Rap/Hip-Hop Music, it's almost like diggin in the crates for classic music.
@@ericcius1498 it started with trinidad james all gold everything after that ppl said if he can rap and make it then I'm a rapper too. Everybody in my city became a rapper after it got easy because you dont need bars no more.
I don't like 95 percent of these new niggas....they all wack n gay to me. But those 2 artists in particular got the superstar quality, they actually make good music
