Damon Russell, man, we want to get Ant Banks in for an interview. We're working on Spice 1, but we need to get in touch with Banks. Thanks for the support.
East Oakland in Thizz bitch I alwayz respected Spice 4 not being fake he always repped his hood.Ov course he hella connected 2 Oakland he always let u know he from Hayward.Dont get it twisted ov course it aint the Town and back in the day it was looked at as uh Caucasian city that didn't want blacks in that started 2 change round the late 90's it's uh lot ov Norte XIV and Sureno 13 mexican gangs round that Haystack .South Hayward got some hoods round there 2 dem niggas ain't no suckas. Its one area over there with like 50 apartment complexes back 2 back. But yea Spice still got that flow plus he was down with Pac they was real 2 life homiez. Spice got that fast choppy delivery still 2 this day.I remember him and Method Man got uh track not on the killer bee comp but the other comp they had with the cartoon martial art album cover artwotk.shout out Big Gipp 2 Goodie Mob "Soul Food" album and his solo "Mutant Mindstate" album stay on repeat that Dungeon Family album iz uh classic 2 wasn't really into the album he did with Ali of St.Lunaticts Grillz"'
Unique Access Ent. Yeah but it's in my storage room but yeah man that album is classic and it got a lot of bangers such as Strap on the Side, Jealous Got Me Strap with 2pac, D Boyz got love for Me with E-40, Bustas Can't See Me, Face of the Desspreman, and Tell Me what Mail like
Respect to Big Gipp, for not only knowing Spice 1, but for knowing Ant Banks. Too Short production ain't been the same since him and And Banks stopped working together.
@@UniqueAccessEnt With so many songs and classics, it is very hard. But I guess Amerikkkas nightmare is my fab album but the song "Young Nigga" from his first album mesmerized me when I was 9 yrs old. He was rapping things I was seeing everyday!
This particular Spice 1 album was life changing for me. One of the only albums I can play back to back without skipping one track. My favorite record on there is “Young Nigga”.
Spice whole style is dope! The way he flip shit with the stutter flow then hit you with the Jamaican style!. With all that being said, I don’t think he from Oakland lol more like Hayward
I love this interview. I own Spice 1's self-titled album in cassette, CD & now vinyl cause it got recently released as an LP. One of the best underrated albums of all-time from a Bay Area Legend. Shouts out to Big Gipp of the legendary group outta Atlanta, GA Goodie Mob and Unique Access Ent for a great album review!!!! Salute!!!!!
Ol' Skool Danni B.'s Underworld Underground, thanks for the kind words. It was great having Big Gipp on to talk & celebrate Spice 1. Thanks for watching & supporting #BestAlbums on #UniqueAccess.
Spice is A Legend. This album was a part of that Sick 1991-1992 period... Of Phenomenal Original Rap Music. 187 proof and 187 pure are in my top 10 Best ever.
Spice 1's first three albums in my humble opinion, are all classics. I like 187 Be He Wrote a little better, though. He and MC Eiht are two of many underrated West Coast MC's. E-40, Richie Rich too.
Good choice. Spice 1 is definitely a legend. I remember watching his Box Talk on The Box and seeing 187 Proof and Welcome To the Ghetto videos. The latter showed the aftermath of the burned buildings from the Rodney King & Latasha Harlins riots. Although Ant Banks did the majority of the album. A few songs were done by E-A-Ski & CMT. East Bay Gangster and Young (CENSORED) are some of their productions. Those are 2 of my favorite joints on the album.
Spice 1 is a 1st ballot hall of Famer without a doubt! The album that got me hooked on Spice 1 for life was 187 He Wrote. After that it was history. Living Legend! 💯
The reason why the south and the west connection is so strong because the majority of people on the west coast were born in the south or have family there or went to school in the south..its basically the same music just different cadences..they also believed in that slap..that heavy bass..another must have in the south
Definitely, Charlie Clark. Did you see our video where Big Gipp talks about the myth that The South Is Slow? Here's the link, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dd_X5_GrbsM.html. Let us know what you think. Thanks for watching #UniqueAccess.
Denver stand up we always had the most slept on hip hop scene. But we supported a lotta music for example crucial conflict, three 6 mafia, E-40, (Bay Music) always were in the records stores in the early days.
But ain’t like we from Oakland didn’t see the dude everyday off of 90th in the early days cause I think he lived over there . We was some of the first to be off that first independent LP “Let It Be Known” in early 1991. Terry T who was ANT Banks’s DJ was a friend of ours and let us know about it! Was the biggest fan ever since! The Spice1 self titled album in my opinion was the best Album of its kind period!!
Spice 1 first album should've been called Houston TX. This album was banging everywhere in Houston. Every fucking corner, every club, everybodys house. The weed house ect. Before the Chronic dropped this had the Chronic impact down South
Nice, NawfsideHtown. I knew The Bay and Houston had a lot of connections, but didn't realize the first Spice 1 LP was so big in H-Town. Thank you for the info. Also, thank you for watching the video and leaving a comment. I appreciate it. Talking Spice 1 with Big Gipp was incredible.
I ain't dissing nobody but let's bring it to the light, gip was the first with my mouth bright right! Respect for this interview bro! Spice one was life for me back in the day.
Dope interview! Spice was and still is underrated. Ant banks is one of the best producers of all time. Play any Ant Banks today and it's still fresh and crisp
Indeed, Reo Oliver. We'll have more interviews with Big Gipp soon. Did you check out our video with him talking about the myth that The South is slow? Here's the link, ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dd_X5_GrbsM.html. Let us know what you think. Thanks for watching.
Soren... Can you cover one of the most underrated albums ever to come out of the west coast.. Goldy In The Land Of Funk... Anyone who loves that Oakland funk will love this album. I have the C.D. in my deck now... Been going through an oakland funk phase lately and that album is musically great.
Jason Bruce, #SorenBaker loves that LP. But, we let the artists choose the album they want to talk about. Then the artist & Soren discuss them. Soren doesn't pick them. Maybe one day someone will pick Goldy's LP. Thanks for watching #BestAlbums & #UniqueAccess.
Definitely, Greg Haney. Thanks for watching & supporting #BestAlbums on #UniqueAccess.

This LP is his best he incorporated mobb music in his west coast gangsta rap with the music production from ant banks it's one of the west coast classics that gave you the description of gangbanging gang subcultures and life in California in North (especially in hayward) and South Cali
Spice1 is from Hayward CA. (Just south of Oakland) , still gutta though. And short and spice have a album together b4 the jive connection, (dangerous crew) w/ rappin 4tay too
Chappell Hannon, thanks for the comment. We're glad Big Gipp wanted to talk Spice 1 for #BestAlbums. Spice 1 definitely deserves to be named among the elite artists. We appreciate your support of #BestAlbums & #UniqueAccess.
Yes I did grew up on SPICE-1, E-40 etc... Have a bunch of their album's on cassettes. Damn I'm old lol keep up the good work and I look forward to reading your book The History of Gangster Rap!💯
Unique Access Ent. Yes this is one of SPICE-1's best album's, I feel he's highly underrated and doesn't get enough recognition I agree with you 100%. With that being said I just wish he could have linked up with e-40 & too $hort and could still be relevant like his counterparts e-40 & too $hort. I look forward to hearing new music from SPICE-1
NIce, Robert Hill. Let us know what you think about #SorenBaker's #TheHistoryOfGangsterRap. He's got a lot about Spice 1 in there. Thanks for watching & supporting #BestAlbums on #UniqueAccess.
Spice 1 does all his own hooks, and you can always expect a full track, that means three fuckin verses of gold... not the weak ass over produced stuff mc's are lazy these days.
