Thanks for watching. Come on give me some credit lol I had professional fishing pants on this time. Those are from Cabelas fishing section. I normally do have sweats on though. Socks yes, that hasnt changed! Happy you enjoyed the video, appreciate you leaving a comment!
Hey Chris I want to pick your brain, I never been Halibut fishing in the Bay. I thinking of going tomorrow, could you please let me know what time I should launch and due to the wind in the bay, what time should I get off the water. I’ll be launching out of Berkley. You input would be greatly appreciated
high tide is around 1-130. you want to fish till 2 oclock. thats when wind will really pick up too. tomorrow looks like a nice day. Start as early as you can get up. Fishing should be best fom 10-1. let me know how it goes
I wasn’t going to leave too early cause of the tide. I was going to leave the dock at 8? Fish the goats and treasure island til about 2pm. Should I leave earlier?
ChrisPfish Hey Chris, we got skunked!!! We just got off the water. No wind was a great day!! Started Berkley Flats/ Treasure Island, alameda Rockwell!!! There boats catching his, but none for us!!!
of course depends on your boat but for me I would say 10mph or less. I am going to do a quick video in the next week or so about the weather/wind and what I do. Lots of people asking. Thanks for watching and making a comment!
alcatraz, angel island, tiburon, cal city and crissy fields are the spots in the bay for big halibut and seal rocks on the outside. if you want real big ones go to santa cruz
@@richsoliman8394 in general if you can find the squid, the halibut should not be far behind. Ive done best anywhere from 40-70 feet of water. Capitola is also very good, lots of white seabass there also.
Hi Carter, Yeah we got some real nice fillets off those. I cooked a piece in coconut milk & curry on the stove. It was very good! Trying to find something else vs frying it lol. Thanks for watching!
@@ChrisPfish2 Put a little garlic salt and pepper on the fillets. Then put on the gas bbq after using butter or olive oil on the grill to keep from sticking.Put some Fresh minced garlic and softened butter on it and let it melt on the fish while cooking. . 4 to 5 minutes on 1 side and 3 minutes on the other. Its the VERY BEST way to enjoy halibut IMO
If you like sandwiches cook your halibut then toast some large sliced sourdough bread.Mix real butter with some smashed up fresh avocado and some lemon for your spread (instead of mayo or tartersauce). Then fry up a couple pieces of bacon and put lettuce and tomato on and maybe have some seasoned fries and a nice IPA or Amber ALE and you will have a fish sandwich dinner fit for a KING.
Nice work out there! I find a lot of the time when I drift and I’m bouncing the bottom I get fish to hit and don’t even realize they are on because the halibut doesn’t really fight until it comes up. Never fish angel island but I’ll have to check it out. The rockwall and oyster point have been firing you should check those areas out!
We hooked up to the largest halibut I’ve ever seen by the rockwall Sunday got it to the boat and it jumped out the net had to have been 45” plus barely could get it even in the net.
Thanks for the great video. This is the first time I've been on this channel - what a rush! 5 nice halibut in a short trip - things don't get much better than this.
@@Clueless_Angler thanks for the report. someone else told me zero for them but they saw other boats catching. It was there first time... What area did you fish? I am going tomorrow. These big negative tides are bad, but rather go out then not.
Caught one between the Evergreen Terminal (Oakland Outer Harbor) and Bay Bridge near the green buoy.. The other one - a fat 24incher I caught was just south of the Oakland estuary entrance. There were a lot of boats out there today but didn’t see too many catching. Berkeley flats got too windy.
lol on tv. idk i have never seen a shark and I bleed a lot of fish. My boat is small but I would be a lot more worried if I was one of those guys in a kayak bleeding a fish in the ocean. That seems like it would take some getting used too. Thanks for watching and making a comment!
Great videos son and me are fans, I want to try to get out there but always been nervous on my boat I guess I might be alright just pay attention to the weather. I have a 20ft glastron fish and ski. Might take a chance in a week 🤞
Hey Matt, thanks for watching! Yeah it was nice just going in at noon and not needing to fight the wind to try and salvage the day with a last minute keeper. Good luck out there!
Nice catching! I usually launch at an east bay ramp but afraid to cross the bay for bait in my smallish boat. Wish live bait was available on the “opposite coast.” Oh, why no protection from salt on your trolling motor this time?
I just watched one of your other videos when you were fishing with smelt and exactly as you said the treble will kill the bait! I have watched all your videos and shared. Can't wait to see more, great job!
@@ChrisPfish2 You can start way out front when it comes up to about 35 feet that is what we call the staging ground then it flattens out all the way to the buoy. the buoy is the beginning of the next drift but the fish get smaller. good job getting the anchovies an getting out there early chrispfish .
@@ChrisPfish2 another great spot is crissy field out in front of the palace of fine arts these are the fish headed to the south bay .but the glory hole is seal rock and the north bar. on a year like this the ocean is were its at. I am going to fish for halibut out at the farallons cause they are there and I swing for the fences hoping to break the state record .my boat should be ready next week and i am definitely ready.
What a great day of fishing you guys enjoyed together! Thanks for taking us along. I saw you guys use a small treble stinger hook behind the main hook. How many fish are caught on the treble versus the main hook? Doesn’t the treble hook gather debris or kill the anchovy? Thanks again for the great video!
Good question. I would say 75% are on the treble hook. I do not hook it into the anchovy because yes it does kill it. I leave it hanging about 1.5-2.5 inches behind the single hook depending on size of bait. If your line is new/firm and the treble hook isnt too heavy it doesnt drag on bottom. Nice live anchovy keeps it up. Thanks for watching!
I’ve been watching your videos on halibut fishing so that has helped me but I am pretty new to drifting for halibut and trolling I just got a boat last August so I have never halibut drifted before but I’m going to try Sunday but do you have any tips because your killin it👍
@@reeceadams384 incoming tide is important. good drift speed. 0.5-1.5mph. any faster or slower is harder to hook up. ideally .6-1.2 mph. confirm every few minutes your still inches off bottom. make sure your bait is very lively (dont kill it when you hook it)
yeah I have been asked that before. I guess its suppose to be round. They stay alive for the day no problem. I have gotten them in the afternoon for a next day trip and they stayed alive just fine too. Thanks for watching!
ChrisPfish thanks for the response I am pretty new to the salt. Finally landed a good deal on a used 21’ north river sea hawk and took it out last Monday for halibut. Boated five and one stripper. Now I’m hooked, pun intended
@@d5920 yeah i bought my boat aug/18. never did salt on my own. Always fresh water fisherman. Caught one salmon on six trys in the sac river. Went to the ocean on a very calm day. landed 3 salmon for two. I was hooked, boat hardly sees freshwater and I need a bigger one now. saltwater fishing I like so much better. Thanks for being a part of my channel! keep commenting and watching! Chris
ChrisPfish exactly I’m in the same boat, no pun. I chased those dead salmon in the sac and I’ve fished just about every lake. Mostly for kokes, LL salmon, trout, and occasionally some mackinaw. The salt is where all the tasty and hard fighting fish are for sure. Hope to see you out there and I might hit you up for some tips this salmon season
haha thats an interesting observation. I was discussing with him he needs to make sure his drag is correct if he hooks a better sized fish. Its kinda a funky reel. He was just making sure his drag was doing what he wanted. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video! I noticed you baited the anchovy through the lips and the treble leave dangling, does this keep the bait alive longer? Also how deep do you usually target halibut?
yeah leave the treble hanging, it kills them putting it through there tail. Depth. Most parts of the bay you are fishing 10-20 feet. Spots closer to GG bridge are generally deeper, 20-60'. Thanks for watching!
I give some to my family & friends. any left I put it in freezer bags air tight. I generally cook it with butter garlic salt and lemon pepper. It cooks real well in a beer batter! Thanks for watching!
Great videos. Keep up the great work. I’m a new subscriber and I’m making a trip out to tomales bay this weekend and was wondering where the closest live bait shop is. Every time I head out there and use google, the bait shops are closed down.
smelt or anchovies is loch lommond in san rafael. Call Bodega tackle in Petaluma. That is best bet but I think they only have worms/shrimp. Thanks for watching my videos and subbing!
Hi Chris, great videos! Loch Lomand Yacht Club brings back a lot of memories for me. Is there a way for me to contact you? Would love to chat with you for a bit.
good luck, if it works out give me a shout out! You have been hard core lately, getting good use in that boat! When you trying for salmon? Have you heard any reports how far out they are from the coast?
Great video... Less music tho. IMO, as a fisherman, I want to experience the fight, struggle, 'moment' that you guys are in. Music takes you out of that.
I hate doing the music lol, thats the worst part of editing the video. No music, people ask for music. I will try and find the happy medium. Thanks for watching and giving some feedback!
