Very sad….his son was 4 and he was 40 when this song came out. Unfortunately, just at the same time he was shot to death. When he says” I can hardly to see you come of age, but I guess we’ll just have to be patient” just resonates so hard to me.

He wrote it when his son Sean was born… This song was used by every parent who had a son after it was released.. I learned it and used to sing it to my son every night.while he was going to sleep. A beautiful song.. now my son is 12 and this song brings tears to my eyes remembering that little baby he was.

I'll always associate this song with John's death; the album came out just about the time he was murdered. It was written for his young son, Sean, that he had with Yoko (hence the Japanese sound to it), who was still quite young at the time, so it was filled with his hopefulness in watching his son grow up...which, of course, he never got to do. Yoko even did a song after John's death that made me buy one of her albums; check out her "Goodbye, Sadness" which is uncharacteristically good for Yoko!

I don't know if you were around at the time John was murdered, but for those of us who remember that horrible night, and all the years since his family and friends and all his fans were robbed of John's presence in the world, will always associate Double Fantasy with his death. SO horrible that it happened when he was FINALLY TRULY HAPPY, and was even going to start touring again and making more music. It was all so WRONG, TRAGIC and UNFAIR

My sister sang this song at my nephews funeral. He was only 18 and such a beautiful boy. He committed suicide. This song just wrecks me now. My brother ( the beautiful boy’s father) talks about this song all the time now. Music is so powerful

@@prprod I don’t think it’s resentment. He wasn’t close to his dad. He and his mother moved to Italy. She recently (within the past few years) passed away. I’m hoping Julian will make his own mark in music. He’s been writing some and producing some, but nothing extraordinary yet.

My wife was 3 months pregnant when Lennon died. She had appendicitis and was in hospital when I was driving to visit her and I heard about his death on the radio. Fortunately both my wife and the child survived. The doctors asked us if we wanted to know the sex of the baby, but we both said no, we’d prefer for it to be a surprise. Six months later my wife went into labour at a small hospital in Wellington, Shropshire. Complications developed and she had to be transferred in an ambulance to Shrewsbury. I followed in our car, the blue lights went on followed shortly by the siren. I decided to follow the ambulance but realised I was being stupid and could have an accident, so I pulled into the traffic, calmed down and turned the radio on. This song was playing, I knew then the baby would be a boy. My son grew up to be a musician…….

I still remember where I was and what I was doing when they announced John Lennon's death on the radio. One of my best friend's who was roughly 10 years older, taught me about music and artists from the '50s, '60s, and '70s. He loved John Lennon and actually looked just like him. Same haircut, glasses and could imitate him to perfection. Sadly my friend Kevin passed away a year later from exposure to agent orange in the Vietnam war. Sorry to go off-topic.

Written for his son Sean who i got to meet and get very drunk with when a friend of mine played bass for his band in Central Park when they opened for The Strokes, and he was dating Mick Jaggers daughter then so after the show we all went to Greenwich Village along with the members of the Strokes and got really pissed drunk! Sean was such a sweet kid and really a nice down to earth guy! It later hit me that I got drunk with royalty because one was the son of a Beatles and the other the daughter of a Rolling Stones!

OMG this song!!!!! I used to sing this to my son every night at bed time. Still makes me cry to this day. I often wondered if Julian resents/resented this song, Dad never wrote one for him. John has a few sons. His son with Yoko, Sean Lennon, is in a great band with Les Claypool of Primus, called The Claypool Lennon Delirium. Check out their song "Satori", it's one of their shorter songs. If you like Beatles, John Lennon, Primus, Post-Rock, you'll like them.

You say John had a few sons (well only a couple) , but you never told everyone his other son's name who also was a recording artist in the early '80s. JULIAN Lennon, his mother was Cynthia Powell Lennon, John's first wife. Julian was born on April 8, 1963 and will be 59 years old 15 days from today (March 23, 2022) There are LOTS of videos of Julian's music here on you tube , plus lots of interviews with Julian as well. He is a fantastic singer, song writer, humanitarian, artist and photographer. John would be VERY PROUD of his first son. Try looking for some of his songs that were big hits, "VALOTTE," "TOO LATE FOR GOODBYES," from his early career in the '80s (saw him live in concert 4 times and he put on a FANTASTIC show.) He is supposedly working on some new music. Is "latest" song from a few years ago is BEAUTIFUL and there are several different performances of it here on You Tube, it's called "SALTWATER"

John was working on some music the night he was killed. He wanted to stay later and finish up but wanted to get home in time to tuck Sean into bed. It was when he was walking into his apartment building to go tuck Sean in when he was shot.

I can't help but wonder IF they had gone to get a meal first, maybe John would still be here., maybe you know who would have given up and left. But he may have STILL hung around and did what he did....we will never know.

Yes this came out I was in Missouri I’m from California was in Missouri working in this album came out that was his son he was talking about Sean So now his son is still around and he’s doing interviews of Paul McCartney who is John Lennon‘s friend and a friend beatle and Sean is now interviewing Paul McCartney To find out their history and Sean admires the Beatles in a different perspective It’s a very beautiful thing it’s a very sad thing that Sean’s dad John Lennon was shot to death right in front of the Dakota Yoko is an important player in all of this John Lennon could choose any woman in the entire earth to spend his life with but he chose Yoko Ono

I like to think he wasn’t trying to leave Julian out. I don’t recall John writing a song for Julian but “Hey Jude” was such a hit in Julian’s honor, I like to believe John tried to do the same for Sean because of it.

Hey Jude was the song that Paul wrote individually and he dedicated it to Julian, because when John left his first family, Julian was only 4 years old and Paul went to visit them because he cared about them and he knew that they would both be devastated and Julian would see much less of his father and would have to go through a lot. John didn't know that about the song, he thought it was for him and Yoko, Paul told him it wasn't like that and it never was.

Sadly when I search for a song by Lennon Murphy. John Lennon songs are everywhere. Lennon Murphy is 1 of the best female rockers out there. But not well known. Y'all could change that. My beautiful Wrong way And you Are terrific songs by her band. From Florida. I might add. I saw live concert of her and her band in Tallahassee in 2007? She even has video of her rock life.

His Wife was Japanese, and alcoholism almost cost him his marriage in the 70's before he cleaned it up so she'd take him back. He wrote, "Woman" as a love letter to her. He never had the commercial success of his former Beatles bandmate, Paul McCartney, but when he released something, it was a big deal. "Watching the Wheels" is another excellent one.

The song is for his son Sean. He wrote it when Sean was about five years - and in the year John Lennon got shot. So 'your daddy's here...' ended at this point. Sad.
