This channel has literally started me on a journey to define my ethical framework and question all my positions. So, Destiny succeeded in at least one case. I don't watch this channel to copy Destiny's positions, I'm a leftist vegan and less of a rule utilitarian (although im still exploring ethics), but I'm much more grounded and focused on pragmatic goals. In the short to medium term i dont see much difference between my goals and a socdem/liberal like Destiny tbh.. But more importantly this channel keeps me honest and prevents me falling in to a dumbass online leftist bubble. I started watching for the debates and to understand a more moderate position but i got something far more valuable.
Yeah, similar boat for me. I rather put my energy into volunteering & activism; it gets stuff done and is more effective than being terminally online like the average „Twitter leftie“.
How about reevaluating the way we take in information or how we talk about stuff. That's my personal gain from listening to the streams. 😊 Hope it balance some people out.
@@andrewprofitt6898 Destiny is like a once raging fire that worked to burn the evils of this world. Then over a period of several years started to develop a hatred for the ones he once knew. He began focussing less time on destroying evil and more on burning bridges (in this analogy literally) and killing all new foes who he once liked. He is left alone in this world. The only friendships he can make are strictly apolitical. He is confined to his own power, a lone gust of fire with too much skill. Tbh, half of these debates are arguing over common sense. People coming in with an incorrect understanding of a common (political or philosophical) concept. Shoe has always been a Bernie supporter ever since back when she used to make fun of SJWs. I think for her and Chris Ray Gun they genuinely didn't believe that the right was as hateful and terrible as the left made them out to be. I like the first question about how someone analyzes an action or event and whether the person makes their analysis based off ideology or moral framework. Could an action or event up for analysis be considered a sort of "ink blot" ?
Food stamps feels like absolute garbage. People stare and sometimes cashier's are so weird about it. I remember I got on food stamps after getting sick and a cashier at Trader Joe's was super nice about it and even gave me a small pep talk. I definitely cried in the middle of the grocery store.
@@DynamiteProd I'm pretty sure many struggles mentally because of it. Here in Norway we have very high unemployment benefits, in some cases better paid than some of the lowest paid jobs we got. So our people don't have to deal with that mental stress. We also have an economic crisis department just in case.
Food stamps 100% gets shamed. Appreciate the self awareness from Destiny saying he could be removed from these things. I've seen it my whole life in Southern states.
This is a big point against means testing. Anything the govt does is instantly stigmatized and on the back foot fighting budget cuts if it goes to the poor.
Yeah that's a point I've never considered before and it makes a lot of sense intuitively as someone from Alabama. I'm curious how significant of a role it plays in whether or not someone decides to apply for food stamps.

"Trans people wouldn't feel dysphoria if they weren't pushed into a social role" is some bullshit I'm just so sick of hearing tbh (even if just in sentiment).. being trans is far more than just the social aspect, it's how you for yourself can best live with your body - whether someone calls you a man or a woman or neither, or whether you're allowed to wear dresses and skirts has no bearing on that. Those are ALSO sources of discomfort, but I feel like a lot of people really zone in on that particular aspect far too much when having these discussions. I just really detest social roles generally, and people equating them to gender just misses a lot of the trans experience - I understand many people making these arguments are cis and so maybe don't have the prerequisite experiences to draw these kinds of distinctions or have such an in-depth relationship with these topics across their lives, but man it's grating to hear.. I think we ABSOLUTELY need to widen the "boxes" of what man/woman can or ought to be as much as possible, maybe even abandon them entirely, but that will not fix the issue of people feeling dysphoria about their bodies - that isn't socially induced. It can certainly amplify it, but I really see these as very distinct aspects of being trans.
If you have single payer healthcare, all voters use the same healthcare system and they all will want to work well, so gov is fund it well and make sure it is run well. If you have two healthcare systems, a large block of voters will not care what happens to government healthcare, and insurance companies will be happy to fund their movements to defund gov healthcare bc they want more market share. This situation is not politically sustainable.
can you show any studies where competing healthcares weren't sustainable? Israel for instance, has multiple health services you need to choose opt to pay into, and they have been considered to have one of the best healthcares in the world. even in the US although it sucks for everyone not insured, almost no American today supports getting rid of the ACA (only to add on to it)
I think that the idea that gender abolition will make dysphoria go away is really naive at best. Trans people who medically transition don't just want HRT because of societal expectations. Dysphoria is way more nuanced and in depth than just "I want to look like what society wants a man/woman to look like" Societal expectations definitely have an impact on this, but I highly doubt the majority of people who experience dysphoria would just stop if gender was abolished.
My experience obviously isn’t reflective of the whole trans community, but the only real value I get out of being addressed by the right pronouns is when someone assumes without asking that I’m a woman, because it affirms the success of my transition; pronouns can help alleviate dysphoria only when they confirm that I’ve made progress in changing my body in certain ways. I’ll also add that there are aspects of traditional masculinity that don’t trigger dysphoric feelings at all, and aspects of traditional femininity that don’t help whatsoever. If gender were ever abolished (and I don’t think it can be, but it’s a good goal to aspire to to make the definition of gender less rigid and more fluid), it would really only help with dysphoria in the sense that I wouldn’t need to be as performatively feminine as a defense mechanism against transphobia, and I would be able to more comfortably pursue my transition in ways that specifically help me on a physiological level. Just to clarify, I totally agree with your comment, and you’re 100% correct IMO. Dysphoria would still exist without gender, but the process of transitioning wouldn’t be intrinsically tied to society’s expectations of what affirms someone’s man/womanhood, or all the physical associations with those identities. In that sense abolishing gender would be good because it enables doctors to treat people to the best possible extent without social pressures streamlining the process of transition into a set of pre-accepted gendered standards. For instance, it wasn’t uncommon a few years ago (and still isn’t in the UK, if I’m not mistaken) for trans patients to first have to “live as a woman” for a certain amount of time before being medicated, and basically it amounts to dressing up, talking and walking a certain way, finding new “girly” hobbies, et cetera. I had to go through the same thing to a slightly lesser extent, and it made me wary of expressing non-feminine practices to my therapist because I was afraid I’d lose access to my medication.

I hadn't thought about the social stigma aspect of social benefits. If we ALL got food stamps, all the EBT shenanigans would vanish... maybe? I have to think about that.
We would have people who would pridefully not use them and be loud about it. Whether that means society would shit on them or people who still use them, is up to whoever is in the bigger side probably.
That’s why universal school lunches are such a good idea. We have them in Sweden, and not only does it offer less advantaged kids a good nutritious meal, there is zero social stigma around eating a free school lunch because everyone eats the free school lunch.
@@mikelari9670 In Sweden the law is up to provide free lunches for all mandatory school years (up to age 15, or school year 9). There is no legal requirement for High schools to provide free school lunches, but they all do. Typically the municipalities add that requirement themselves, which applies to public schools. Since that is the norm, private high schools do so as well. During the pandemic, with home studies for high school students in Sweden, this has resulted in a bunch of Schools dropping the lunches since high schools do not have a legal requirement to provide them. There has been some debate about this, and about making the free lunches mandatory.
UBI with no strings attached has to shown to help the economy. People are able to start up a side hustle, earnings more money. There are few people who indulge in increased vice but for the most part people reinvest the money in themselves, helping their economic situation. The people go increase vice help the economy increasing the dealers income that flow into the economy.
The only reason I can think of against means-testing government benefits is that universality reduces the risk of weird incentives for people around the means-testing threshold. If it is universal, there are no real or fake "people quitting their job/work less to get more money from welfare" arguments floating around. Also, with universality, you can be assured that the government benefits are being paid out regardless of what the national poverty level or working-class income level is set at.
2:40 In this case you are able to kill a kid for stealing your bicycle. Maybe, Destiny shouldn't only use a rape analogy. Jesus Christ, why is every example he gives so extreme. The problem is he takes the extreme example and applies it to harmless examples. And the reason is deterrence.
Yeah this line of thinking completely leaves proportionality out of the equation. I feel like it would be obvious that the amount of violence they can be used to defend yourself or your property must be somewhat proportional to the harm that would be caused if you did nothing.
@@billystronk4251 I agree. Destiny's would say that someone isn't allowed to use lethal force during a rape, if his action must be proportional. I disagree. Lethal force is allowed if the victim has no other means to stop the rape. First, because his life is in danger. Second, because the victim will maybe never recover from the rape (I am not an expert on rape, so I don't know how well the victims recover).
I hope one day Destiny can do a poll or something to see how many people he has rescued from the far right and far left. I'm one of them and it seems a loooot of callers mention the fact that Destiny helped them revaluate their views.
I'd say Destiny reached his goal. I was so lost as a teenager as basically am autistic foreign kid even though I was born here and could never seem to adopt a coherent identity or set of values. I tried on different things and started going the conservative route as a rejection to many of my liberal teachers trying to get me woke. I ran out of options at 21 and went back to college, ended up studying abroad in japan and everything I knew got turned on its head. I realized how small minded myself and everyone on my home island was, and when I came back home I felt like an alien. I felt like I had an acid trip or I stepped out of the matrix or something. I realized that a lot of times I couldn't pick which was right between a value I learned in Japan and a value I learned in my own country and so I started turning to philosophical discussions on youtube where I could watch people run through the mental math. I've since became addicted and before I argue an opinion I always make sure that it is consistent with my own moral framework. It's led me to greater happiness in life because I've finally been able to adopt a somewhat coherent identity and values to live by, and when I'm in a rut I can always reference them.
I resonated with this heavily. Our experiences are so mirrored it’s scary. As a highschooler in California I was bombarded by very liberal sentiments and being the rebellious teen I was I rejected them and turned towards conservatives online. (Crowder, Sargon, Shapiro...etc). After graduation I joined the navy and was stationed overseas to Okinawa Japan. Humbling event after humbling event turned my entire ideology/thought process upside down. Experiencing another culture and living thousands of miles away from everything I held dear humbled me into the dirt. Which primed me to have my shaken worldview rebuilt by better faithed individuals like destiny. At the same time I found destiny and other left leaning you tubers. I’m a far more grounded, intellectually honest, cultured, compassionate and empathetic person. It’s provided me so much relief and escape from the seething vitriol trance that the conservatives had my naive self under. If you found him years ago, that makes sense. At this point he's more against the left than the right. The alt-right/ conservative pundits really have their grip on the online youth. it's so easy to fall into that lazy worldview, ironically believing you-or other conservatives-are the victims. I wish their were more ways to support kids that fall into those beliefs and never escape. And as Destiny described Peterson once Peterson (and imo the right in general) they operates by providing nebulous and thoughts without conclusion by offering normative claims, claims of seemingly common sense that the depraved left lack. And they never offer prescriptive claims or measures to proactively take action against said behaviour or policies. They allow you-the viewer-to formulate your own opinion, without having to utter the heavy inferences and undertones their perspective has. For instance the JQ, many political figures on the right are anti-Semitic. They rarely would admit to this as it would damage their image, but they elude to it, and imply their twisted beliefs heavily to an audience that has already been manipulated by them.

The problem with means testing isn’t the cost of the administrative bloat, it’s the bureaucracy and administrative bloat itself, and the difficulty in ensuring that people that should get the benefits don’t get turned away. Just take example of covid relief - basing it on a previous years tax return tells you nothing about if a person needs help today. Maybe they had a good job and lost it due to the pandemic. And all that bureaucratic bloat adds up. I used to live in the US, and the bureaucracy was insane. Every smallest little thing required filling out a million forms. In the end you just don’t bother. The contrast with Sweden, which attempts to make everything universal, is enormous. Barely any forms and any bureaucracy for anything, and I run my own company. Taxes are high, but everything to do with bureaucracy is kept at a minimum. That’s the real trade off - means testing one thing in isolation can be reasonable, but in aggregate when you means testing every single little thing the bureaucracy becomes grotesque. It’s really a trade off between taxes and bureaucracy. As a small business owner, I personally find that less bureaucracy is better then lower taxes. A large Corp with an army of lawyers can handle red tape, a small one man company can’t. But the taxes don’t give me a competitive disadvantage vs a large Corp that pays the same.
just as an example to prove how harmful her videos were, I went through an anti sjw phase. "Hey facts and logic. I like those things. Destiny is wrong about shoe0nhead. Shoe was a Bernie or Buster who fell HARD down the anti-SJW pipeline and said a bunch of horrible shit in her early days and is kinda getting a lot better now. Seriously what's so insane about that?

Honestly as a long time shoe spectator - I think the big problem is how successful she is. She has maintained huge following for a long time. And she has perpetuated a lot of misinformation over the years. She supported anti feminists who were literally against women’s suffrage. I think what people miss is that Shoe didn’t change some of her stances for her career. She could have made a lot of easy money going full Lauren Southern. Instead she eased her largely anti SJW audience into her changing views.
Universal Basic Income is weird. In order to fund it, richer people are going to have to be taxed over the UBI payment. So why do we tax them to pay them rather than just tax them less than that and only give the money to people who need it?

All his political and economic views stem from his ethics. If you think his takes on politics etc. are unique or valuable you should respect that. Most people stumble around in the dark looking for a political ideology that feels good. Having an ethical framework is like turning on the lights.

@@InfiniteDeckhand Well, your penchant for deeming something absurd is your own doing and not what must be done by all. I'd even say it would be foolish to reject anything on the basis of absurdity. The shield that protects you from this "absurdity" is the very same shield that blinds you so you cannot see where you're going or what you're really looking at. Bet you never thought that through eh? As for the ipse dixit, you need to reflect that proof on an individual level is gifted by wisdom. Not to say there's no legitimate criticism to be had regarding Shoe0nHead, but saying she went from far right to Bernie supporter just isn't accurate. I actually think the arguments around universal are more political and socially cohesive based. By being universal to all, it depoliticises it, it removes class cases rhetoric or dispute. It becomes a social bonding principle. It's also difficult if you factor in is it capped by individual or household incomes?. The free for all principle for the NHS in the UK changes the national conversation around it compared to if it was means tested.
So with the argument at 4:15, how does that impact in terms of sexual consent? Obviously if someone who’s still of able mind is willing to take advantage of you’re compromised state and you’re in the one in the position to be harmed/raped that’s bad but in a situation in which two people knowingly consent to the risks involve in getting drunk and then both consent to sex in which if sober one wouldn’t and one would who’s in the wrong here? It’s just entirely dependent on the victim in the situation right? Like stealing shit while drunk vs getting fucked while drunk is just being the instigator vs not. I feel like this is obvious and I’m just overthinking it.
The main point of ubi for everyone is so that wealthier people don't feel like the poor are profiting off of them. Also it reduces the amount of silly bureaucracy hoops people have to jump through considerably so people are actually using it. It seems counterintuitive af but it works better that way around. There is actually a great book on the topic called "a hopeful utopia" by Rutger Bregman.
I wonder at what point pharma and medical decide that the moving parts between them and customers need dramatic reform. There seems to be a convincing argument for companies like Kaiser (who operate their own hospitals and shared tenancy spaces) and independent hospitals and pharmacies to want universal.

@@Thetb93 I'd be fine with this for sure, but it's a logical question - by doing this, you are effectively cutting the support of bottom half of the population by half (because same amount of money will now be spread among 100% of the population instead of roughly 50%).
