Oh there would be LOTS more whistling had I been running that train. We have those horns on our SD70M-2's on the CN and I always enjoy getting one in the lead on a road train.
They have two different sounds because of the 1L trumpet ( as you know, the only trumpet reversed), they make two different styles of this trumpet; 1-piece 1L which you hear on the first locomotive, the second locomotive has a 2-piece 1L giving you the difference in sound. Each trumpet hits a different note, I hope this helps. :)
I like to hear that NS is taking delivery of new ACes soon im kinda tired of seeing c44w-9s when im railfanning the nearest NS line. I see quite a bit of SD70M-2's on the CN line by my house. Nice catch with the week old UP ACe
R&N RailProductions Definitely not. The RS5T would fit any SD40 SD50 and maybe SD60 but it would make the SD70ACe weird considering the SD70ACe is one of the newest American locomotives of today’s and the RS5T was built back in the 60s-70s. The K5LLA fits just right on it.
Do these k5llas use more psi or full air pressure? Normally horns slightly quill in the beginning, but k5llas seem to have no quill at all, just full blast from the start
SouthCalifas619 Probably has something to do with the electric horn valves found on newer locomotives compared to older manual or solenoid valves. Electric valves always blast at full psi when pulled, manual valves of course offer control. I'm no horn expert Btw, just my wild guess.
Spaceshotx7 Yes you are correct. On the decibel meter, a Raised Letter K5LLA is going to be much louder than a Round Tag/80s/90s/00s K5LA, thanks to that 1L-1 bell combo giving the horn that harsh signature sound. I guess that's why EMD's SD70Ace/AH-T4 loco has a Raised Letter K5LA instead of a K5LLA, too loud they think.
Ok first off,the video's great,but personnaly,I'm a GEVO fan.It's not like I don't like ACe's,I like them very much as a GEVO,but I just like GEVO's a bit more.Also,nice K5LLA HORN!!!!!!!
