In todays video we are installing Led RGBW Strip from JCC within a Aluminium strip that acts as a heat sync . Upon the First fix of this job I installed a 2 core cable for the strip lighting however I didn’t realise you need 5 core cable but I managed to save the day in the end.
Build your own design and see the range of products below on the JCC Configurator and JCC Website
JCC Website - www.jcc.co.uk/...
JCC Configurator - ledstrip.jcc.c...
UNILITE - unilite.co.uk CODE - ADAM

Thanks for watching :)

Good job ad. If you are stuck in the future use the 1mm to power the transformer and hide it above the reveal. I use a 2 port media plate with the brush inserts, you can’t see it from the ground

that turned out nice. Yeah there's not a lot of standard with LEDs yet. I mean there's a standard but it's not the standard. Like that you ran the extra cable probably a good thing this case. I would almost say for future proofing for anything like that Flexican all the way to the control box. It seems like LED lighting might be going the way of power over ethernet POE which would require data cabling. And the annoying thing about most built-in features like that is that they're usually made one size fits none, so having the conduit there in the future brings a whole lot more options. With AC wiring you have a lot more leeway put the switch on one end or put a controller up there with constant power etc. with DC and not so much.

Brilliant job, Adam. Good job using the 1mm to round out the supply for those RGBW strips. That installation looks SIIIIICK! The client is going to be well chuffed.

Hi Adam, Be mindful using the connecters for led tape as some are only rated at a few amps and can easily burn out , rgbw can be 18w per m , x that by the length of tape then divide by your 24 volts which can cause problems, soldering isn’t easy especially with rgbw but it’s worth learning and practicing and makes a better job , keep up the good work , best way to learn is from your mistakes 👍🏻

Hi mate, just telling you what we usually do, if you’re installing down lights around the sky light, hide the driver for the tape inside the nearest down light hole. That way it’s accessible in the future, and tucked out the way 👍🏼

Hi Adam - great LED job - I have Specified JCC lighting throughout on the project I’m doing - including the LED ribbon. JCC do seem to have everything when it comes to this. Keep up the great work .

Nice one Adam. Well thought out in the end. Luck the extra cables were there 🤦🏻 Be mindful if you do it again and you are fitting 5v strips on long runs they would need power injection down the line. Happy new year🎉

Just a thought but why didnt you just use the 2 core up to the led strip for your DC, then install the led receiver right next to the LED strip, espesically as you had to cut away the plaster board for the profile annyway? BS 7671 does cover ELV as well. Great job though, really tidy!

Good save in the end mate, nicely done! Just curious as to how long the total run of led strips was along the entire skylight, as was told i need a cable to power each 5m length? I'll be running on 24v too with a big-ass driver. Cheers

Good job Adam! Here in Portugal we have a special alluminium profile for plasterboard, you probably can find that in the uk for sure! Makes the job look better plus less work, i uses it in my last job and worked wonders! If you want i can send you a link! Keep the good work!

I've not fitted any JCC LED strip so there's not much advice I can give apart from assuming you are fitting downlights on that ceiling put the joint between the cable and prewired end above a downlight with a bit of flexi conduit between Is there any guidance of the distance restrictions between the driver and tape? As you said it could have cost you but it didn't, looks good though. How about doing a video with the unused bits on how it all goes together with no soldering. I bet you when you have finished the kitchen you'll look at it and be well proud of what you have done.

Wouldn't be better to have controller hidden inside next to LED strip? That way you use 2 core cables? Btw, I used RGB-CCT LED strip (so I have different white temperature as well) that work well together with Philips Hue (it use Zigbee gateway) 👍👌

Can someone educate me please, why the need for a big driver? Iv had the cheap eBay led rgb kit on my stairs with sensors for the last 5years and it’s still going strong? I totally get it’s a cheap kit compared to the one Adam used but what’s the pros and cons ?
@AdamDunlopElectrical
@AdamDunlopElectrical 9 месяцев назад
The driver depends on the length of the meteres used and few other variables I believe
@tonipeters4543
@tonipeters4543 9 месяцев назад
I know it is easier for us who are not doing the job to comment, but you have over looked another problem. As the LED strip is long, and it is 24v, you can get a lot of voltage drop. Next time, why not put the receiver adjacent to the LED tape? That way you only need 2 core, and you can use T&E so the voltage drop will be so small you will not have to worry about it. The only way to learn is from your mistakes.
@AdamDunlopElectrical

Definitely cheers

The driver is massive to be fair have to make a hatch in the ceiling just to hide it if no downlights😂but should be more local to strip to allow for voltage drop good job though well saved. 👏

Mate just glue/tack some coving around the lantern next time rather mulot-tooling that out. Either way get the plasterers or joiners to make a way of hiding the extrusion.. nice bit of coving is my go to..

@AdamTheElectricalApprentice it might not have worked I seen later in the video had the controller transformer. With them strips can loop small bit of wire between each terminal from + maybe you would call them a link just carry the power over to rgb.
