Me toooooooo!! I haven't done any Pieces in like two weeks. . My artstation is a mess I just keep looking at it thinking I'm going to organize and work on some work but I'm like I'll do it later I'll do it later and later has come and gone many times I don't know what's going on
I get my dosage of seasonal blues every year around these months, it's the weird "hump" months where you realized half a year had gone (and no matter how hard i've worked i will always feel like I havent done as much as i should) but also no occasion thrill (halloween, christmas etc) to keep you looking forward to something. Not to mention we haven't been able to travel anywhere to recharge. Hope everyone can get through it! Christmas is only in three month~
As someone who cannot draw landscapes to save a life, it's super cool that it's absolutely your jam. They look SO GOOD. I especially love the first big one - the colors + textures are so inspiring to look at. Also, I'm not a fan of bugs but those oil pastel beetles that you drew? Amazing. The iridescent (?) look really comes through and dare I say the bugs look beautiful?? Anyway, hope your mood gets better this month
i looovee how your large paintings look/seeing your process with them - I always have difficulty painting on a large scale and youre def getting me inspired to go big!! :)
Love you, Leigh! Yay for the boundaries, music-less dancing, new haircuts, and just being Leigh. Sad to see the originals tier go but excited for all the things you will do, now that you have that time back (I just feel that I need to put the disclaimer, that this should necessarily be art stuff--you do you, boo.) 👻 💕🍰
I used to struggle with this for my own art/fashion style growing up. Something my mom told me that has always stuck, “They can copy your style, but they can’t copy your creativity”. Glad to hear you’re branching out. It will still always keep you one step ahead and keep you unique.
Love the haircut and all of the art!!! Would love the beetle you did in pastels to be a sticker, I think I would buy ten. Happy to see you setting boundaries for yourself
Gosh I LOVE the big paintings. I always love your landscapes, any size, tbh. I adore how expressive and filled with thoughtful colours they are, and yet there’s so many beautiful details and a really wonderfully-composed picture there too.
Hercules drinking from your cup just made my day. I love him, and Toadie, smother them both with kisses and cuddles from me! Absolutely love your landscape paintings, the colours are beautiful. Boundaries are so important, I've learned this the older I've gotten. Love your hair cut! I cut mine the other day, it's so liberating having short hair. Although I cut it a little too short in places, lol! But the thought of going to the hairdressers stresses me out, I've never liked going to hairdressers. Hope you feel better this month, glad you're doing more art, Love seeing anything to do with you guys decorating your house! Much love and hugs from Scotland 💗🤗💖
omg as someone who also had such a low-energy august, it was a heavy month (i think i managed to creatively make something only once), so i’m sending u all the good energies 💗💗💗 also my dog sat right beside me while i watched, enjoying a patch of sun (she does the same thing as ur dog, patting me, asking for pets)
I especially love this second montain yellowish painting! I’m sad so many people seem to be copying you and how much it (rightfully) affects you. I don’t understand how they cannot see the limits.. Thank for inspiring us by sharing your process, your motivation spikes, that traditional art is stil fun, that using bold or nonrealist colors is cool. I always got from you that I should just draw, regularly, and be less afraid of trying things (despite not being a one-style illustrator , I always catch myself shying away from experimenting even more because I’m afraid I’ll get bored of it before using it for professional projects x) ). Sending love!
Leighellexson landscapes = chefs kiss. The art copying is a bummer, but we love you + your art, not just your art. Loving that they’ve spurred on a bit of art growth for you, they won’t be able to keep up :P Patreon original idea - maybe just 1-2 originals, a bit more detailed & more $.
This! Yeah, it’s great they have an avenue to express themselves, and are being creative - but in being SO influenced by Leigh they’re missing out on *their* thing. Must be frustrating huh.
I hope you are doing well, Leigh. Your vlogs have inspired me to pursue art in a less critical way.. if that makes sense lol we are are own worst critics after all. Your fun-loving, caring nature has helped me understand that yes, being good artist takes work buuutt the process doesn’t alllways have to involve “work”. Hope that made sense :) keep up the great work! Sending good vibes your way ♥️ also, yay for boundaries 👏🏼🥳
Your art is such an inspiration! Thank you for sharing the good and the bad parts of being an artist, I hope you feel better! Don’t let copiers bring you down!! 😊❤️
Notes: 1. Thank you for the shoutout to the copy catters out there-- we should really be pushing people to find their own creative voice and i thank you for using your 'following' to bring attention to that 2. Love Turk footage.. always.. and movie footage, those underground gems i'm always looking for. Wrote down 'Only Yesterday' oh and House footage, that bathroom tho! 3. Your landscape painting makes me feel like I want to take a deep sigh, beautiful
ive seen a ton of these copycats on my feed, but don't let it cause you to think negatively about your art. when i see your work its very clear its yours, people can try but they will never have the genuine feeling of your work
I was watching an old sketch video from drawingwiffwaffles and she had your channel in the tab, and now I absolutely adore your content ! You inspired me to paint for the first time in a hot minute. Thank you, and God bless!
The larger paintings all look so beautiful!! TRULY a match made in heaven 💕💕 I hope you feel lighter and brighter soon though! Many creatives seem to be having a little mood lull right now 😔
1) Your haircut suits you SO well omg! 2) Kudos for addressing the copycats (def have unfollowed at least one before because they were just too clearly a rip off of you) and I hope you keep your heart up about it! Your style is beautiful and not "just anyone" can do it. You have grown your craft to reflect you and you will keep doing that, and that's something to be proud of.
Im so glad you spoke up about the ‘re-creators’ or copycats id rather call them… i have come past a few on instagram also and thought i was losing my mind? I really thought i was being too particular because some of these people are seen as established artists too with quite a following??? Like how and why, its got leigh splattered all over it. Anyways, i love hearing people set boundarys! Well done
Love your whole vibe. This is the first video I have watched of yours and it isn't all hyper and chipper in my face like alot of other channels seem to be lol.
Love your channel and originality... art and style uniqueness... go with the boundaries and calling out the copycats! It really has gone crazy out there! I'm an older generation RU-vidr but much newer than you and already am experiencing the same and where at first it's ok, it does become discombobulating! They say, imitation is the biggest form of flattery but I absolutely disagree. So well done for calling them out! Oh, and can I please pet Toady... it's weird, but, I'm obsessed... xxx
me *hasn't been here in a hot minute*: I LOVE THE HAIR. I'm currently doing a landscape for a drawing class and I am FIGHTING it every step of the way, so it is nice (in a way) to see that you were also working on one! I like to listen/watch your videos while I work on art so I don't feel too lonely and this was a nice coincidence :)
This was such a chill vlog! I love how creative you are, the way you paint and make art :) You’ve inspired me to paint landscapes, which is something I am terrible at haha but want to have a go again. Also, I love your hair!
Is that really how Toadie asks for pets 😭 i’m dying! I love the bigger paintings, it definitely shows that landscapes and you are a match made in heaven! Have you considered turning them into prints?
There was an artist that seemed to copy your art in many many aspects, so I also noticed the copycat situation. I follow your art since 2019 and even tho we have brutal style differences, you are stil my biggest inspiration and I learned how do choose colorful palletes because of your art.
I loooove that first big landscape you painted! My buddy just gave me a huge roll of scrap paper and I want to paint on it but haven't done anything BIG since high school. also need new paints 🙈
So I’m just sitting here taking a break from work with a movie on in the background, randomly watch your vlog for the first time in months and IMMEDIATELY DIE BECAUSE WE ARE BOTH WATCHING ONLY YESTERDAY 🤣🤣🤣
Maybe you could make a very small number of mini originals each month, and do little giveaways for your higher tier patreons? Just an idea for how you could still incorporate mini originals into your monthly obligatory work, whilst rewarding people that support your art financially. :)
I know this vid is a few months old, so I'm late to the party on saying this - but way to set boundaries Leigh! I can see how it would be simultaneously flattering and annoying to have so many copycats, however, I wish more people would "take after you" more in the way of your example of work ethic/consistent practice over a long period of time in order to discover your personal style :) every artist copies at first for the sake of learning, but that shouldn't last forever, much less be adopted as theirs. Love you!!!
And you know that wall to your right that you hate, you could hang a curtain in front of it until you get it fixed. Love your haircut. Thanks for all the great videos.
I've had one girl copying my video making style - she even copied my social media graphics, logos, everything. But she was one - I can't imagine how it is to have so many copycats. Loved the video, my cats too.
I think this is so common when we’re starting out. I know I did it myself a couple times 🙈 When I first started painting in watercolors, I recreated a couple watercolor paintings I saw on Pinterest. I didn’t even think about it because I wasn’t planning on selling them. Now I usually paint from my own imagination/preferred color scheme or reference photos (my own, or license-free stock photos) We have to be conscious of not copying a photographers work, either. It’s natural to be influenced by trends. I’m personally trying to focus on creating rather than just being inspired by others. That’s when your journey truly begins and you will find your style as you practice more and more ❤️
@@solarydays yeah, I suppose you’re right! I’ve heard some professional artists say that by copying someone’s art you learn from it. Of course it’s important not to trace or sell it as your own tho :D
Ok you look amazing with short hair Leighhhh also your 1st painting’s colours make me feel so good 💙 ps. I also feel low this summer, I feel you🤝 ok bye
LOVING THE LARGE LANDSCAPES! Gorgeous movement and color. Any chance you might sell something like that in large format? Whatever the case, keep it up, they’re wonderful. I noticed all of the copycats out there, but love that there’s only one real you. 💓 Water guzzler and all.
Hi Leigh, thanks for sharing your process. I really love your vlogs. Maybe one day you can tell us a little about your professional trajectory, how you finally stablish your own business... It seems so difficult... Thanks for your lovely art.
So happy to see you painting large scale again! Yay for setting boundaries. Boo to copycats 👎🏻 One time I painted a little gouache bunny in your style for fun in my sketchbook & tagged you. Now I feel bad 😭 I can’t imagine how icky it must feel to base your entire account off another artist & try to sell work in their style 🤯 It must feel completely joyless.
In all honesty I'm not a fan of landscape paintings but you have such a cool style that they almost look abstract which I love! To anyone else that's reading this STOP stealing anyone's art!!!! It takes a lot of work and if you're an artist you should go with your own vibe. So STOP.
