Big plant, big overheads, big problems, big money! 

Hi chris we are industrial/control electricians based in Derbyshire. We work on crushers screens trommels and wash plants. Along side the electrical work we also have welders/ fabricators fitters and hydraulics workshop. Be more than happy to help with yours and scottys struggles 😊

Chris… Tell Scotty to check the Cooling Fan and Filters on the the main Electric Box that you showed on your video. If the Fan is not running and the little filter is blocked, the box will overheat and trip the panel/trommel…. We had the same issues and it was the little cooling fan that was bubaahed!

Tell scotty he needs an instrumentation and automation technician/engineer. They would be able to diagnose and fix that control panel within hours. Your average electrician won’t have much chance.

I bet Scott's expenses are eye watering when his plant is down,great video Chris.

Sounds like that inverter is going out on over current or it thinks the motor is overheating. I’d need to know the fault code it’s coming up with but first place i’d look is the cables and isolators. Swapping to hydraulic isn’t the best idea. We had all hydraullic motors on our silos and we’ve swapped them to electric. Electric is more efficient. All he needs is somebody who knows inverters. They’re easy enough to fault find. They tell you what’s wrong generally but then that’s what i do all the time so it is easy for me.

Never tried but a mechanic told me you heat the nut and bolt up as hot as you can. Apply paraffin wax and it will melt into the threads and loosen the bolt. Next rusty bolt I get I will try it and let you know. I bet your on the edge of your seat!😊

This is now into the 3rd week I have been trying to buy parts from Cummins Wellingborough they keep telling me sorry we'll get someone to call you back & they never do it's absolutely disgusting I told them we literally have had a broken down machine in the workshop since Christmas & we're desperate!

I've been watching for a while now & I still don't know what Scotty produces. I think that he processes waste but what type of waste & what's the end use.

It's Friday Whoop whoop. Keep up the good work 💪

Those trommels are run on PLCs - which are an absolute pita. They will kick in, out shake it all about with any little software glitch on the ladder logic. "My Version" would be to get the PLCs binned off & feed the motor (which is all it needs) 3-phase directly through a switch, lol. Let the "Tech" bit go * do one. It's a motor spinning a drum, end of the day. It needs power, greasing & sod all else. If you need speed control, add a boggo speed controller. Problem solved, Used look after big fancy German stuff that was all pita PLCs... used drive the Gerbils nuts switching their complex crap over to boggo switches so the lines would stay running. Fancy has its place, but a waste yard ain't it. Their techs usually couldn't figure out the PLC faults either, so 9 times out of 10, the shit stayed running on "My Version" even after the techs came in to "Fix" it properly. I used grab an electrician, get him to run in direct power & let the devil take the hindmost from the whingers. Bosses cared if the motors ran or not - they didn't give a fiddlers "How?". Not running cost fortunes. Running made them.

From previous experience I would definitely NOT go to hydraulic motors. They are very expensive complicated items , overheat quickly and break. Invest in proper heavy duty beefed up electric motors and make sure cooling fans are properly cleaned everyday with that very dirty operation . Maybe 2nd stage motor air filtration required. Good luck.

Hydraulic motors are quite bigger than the electrical counterparts, proper maintenance programs would help. Adjusting the parameters may have masked another issue.🇨🇦

If your business has a single point of failure, like that trommel then you need to have a service contract with the manufacturer with a decent SLA.

If you want a good penetrating oil mix nail varnish remover and ATF 50/50 and put in a garden spray bottle. Been using it for 20 years and I've found it the best thing for releasing rusted items.

I was an industrial electrician and most of the issues I had with units was failed sensors in the field. Seldom did I have to adjust parameters as once they are set they don’t change. I may have adjusted the overload settings to get out of bind but that was about it🇨🇦

Hey Chris you will need a hydrostatic hydraulic system to convert that trommel. Might be good idea to look at a similar machine and copy the configuration. Won't be cheap and life of the hydraulic components is 6500 running hours

Hydraulic wont help, you will still have the same safety sensors etc on it. Sound like he needs a good controls electrician in.

Technology causes as many problems as it so calls cures ..Years ago a motor ran a conveyor belt no problems ,but nowdays it shuts down because it thinks the belt is too slack ,but back in the 70s it ran for years with what it thinks is an issue nowdays costing the operator money ...PTOs on trucks is another ,in the 70s you manually put it in and it ran ,nowdays the ECU wants a signal saying it is in ,if not it disengages it ...rant over ..Great content Chris
