@@leoo5552 Simplest advice I could give you, is to be more determined than the bulldog and consistent and always think a step ahead. You give them any slack or opportunity they will take it. Be loving and fair always, but just be as consistent and don't give in or slack off. Be a good parent and always think a step ahead of your bulldog or else you could set them up to fail.
Thanks for being so real! It definitely helps a novice see you actually going thru the being steps and seeing the progression. Also, thanks for being so giving of your wisdom.
Larry, GREAT VIDEO! I am a dog trainer at an Animal Shelter in California and, we often get young, large unruly dogs relinquished to the shelter that bite at the leash. It is so beneficial to see how you work with this kind of dog and the progression that you make in REAL time. I am often under a time crunch to get these dogs under control, so for me this is a perfect topic! Thank you!!!!!
Hi Larry, this type of content is golden. I work with dogs at an animal shelter, about half of the dogs we get are completely untrained. Seeing the steps and the strategies you use to build trust and improve the “live(with)ability” of these difficult dogs is incredibly valuable. You say often in your videos that you hope it will help even one person. You have definitely helped me and more importantly you have helped many dogs that have passed though our shelter. Thank you, I hope you keep filming.
I'm a proud mama of 103lb Alapaha American Bulldog,he rescued us in 2017 . The dogs are so Strong, smart, loyal, loving and let's not forget stubborn at times. Bubba is the light in our lives. Although I had to admit it has not been the easiest road with him and we are still working on things!! Thanks for the video!! Any help here is greatly appreciated! 😉 New subscriber!
Love the content. Please keep it coming. I love seeing the "normal" and non-glamorous parts of training cause that's what it's like for me 100% of the time
Larry I get so excited whenever u upload you are so grounded and logical. We think alike in absolutely everything.. thank you for your services you and your dogs are amazing
I just don’t understand why people get these kind of power breeds and don’t immediately start the pecking order and boundaries! You can not immediately coo and spoil these kinds of dogs they have to earn it and maintain the “privilege”. Not saying don’t love them but they need more structure. They should have started this basic stuff long ago. Great job!
True! That’s exactly how people get themselves or others injured or killed. Dogs only understand absolutes just as their ancestors and wild counterparts do in the wild. I gear up and wrestle my dogs down after some bite work (In a semi playful way) at least a few times a week to remind them who’s in charge. They also never walk in front of me or enter/exit a doorway in front of me. They follow me around and wait for commands each and every time! I always remind people that large dogs are natural killers capable of taking a human life in mere seconds. Maintaining control is not an option.
That is so true I've raised a lot of pits and bullies but right now I'm dealing with one that acts a little like this but not as bad, I tried everything but she just continues to try to dominate and acts out
They usually just don't know any better. I was one of those people when I got my first power breed and the within a yr a 2nd, I had to learn the hard way cause I had no clue until it was dangerous. Luckily no one ever got injured by them, except one little dog got killed but by no fault of ours. The dog was running loose while we were out walking and it thought why not run up in the face of that pitbull...she shook it and dropped it and it was over in seconds. I felt horrible. Having to talk to the neigh or about it. But yeah...I wasn't raised around dogs and you'd be surprised at how ignorant people can be unknowingly yet still believe they are doing the best.
Fantastic video Larry, just great to see the steps, patience and relationship building. Great job, please share more content to help the dog community improve!
Brilliant. 2 things stand out from all your videos, patience and building a relationship based on trust. My new doggie thanks you big time for helping me know how best to help her.
My Son has 2 of these dogs female 3yr male 1... He has been the most sweet Gentle Giant until past month... Took him to vet learned a few things... Came to spend time with him this morning I am hi maim caretaker and he has been aggressive toward me... I have Always had large dogs never have I been scared... I appreciate this video and look forward to myself and my Son watching more just what I saw has helped me understand this breed a lot... Thank You and God Bless you for the help!!!
There’s always a silver lining lol. Great video, we sure do appreciate you taking the time to share your wisdom with the rest of us! We own a Cane Corso, so I’m always learning...and he’s 4 lol. Be blessed❤️
Im usually not a fan of bulldogs, but he is a hunk! I haven't heard of this type before so you gave me something to research about. He seems like the type of dog I would use a flirt pole with for that extra energy and drive. So much fun and good for teaching the dog impulse control. Love your videos, keep them coming!
Enjoyed this basic training video. I have a six month old dobe with a strong drive. Just need to help her on focusing. Very helpful to see the entire process from beginning to end. Please continue to post these.
Teach the listen command by putting bits of hotdog in your mouth. Say listen then when the dog looks at you spit the piece of food in the dogs mouth. Do it as soon as they look at first then make them focus a little longer after maybe a week. Start with very little distraction then add it in during walks. My dobie Shepherd mix has the same issues with focus and this has been really helping. I got the tip from the schutzhund club I started taking him to. I wish I would have taught that sooner.
you have a dobe and you don't work it why you take a dog like that if you don't know what to do youre dog should have finished obedience 1en 2 should be up for a traffic secure dog after that is optional but the first 3 are mandatory in my book
This is exactly my male Doberman's conduct. This is fantastic, please post the progress with this beauty. Your videos are so appreciated. And...be safe:)
Hi Larry, Chantal here from the Netherlands. Thank you for posting your video's. Really helpful and love how you understand dogs. Also love this beautiful "meathead" :-)
Keep posting vids like this please :) . I have 7 months old Cane Corso ,he is chalenging me a lot of the time, and slowly im teaching him what is ok to do (im like very unexperienced trainer of my own dogs :) ) .Thanks for the help your providing !
Bud great video. I Your patience is perfect not that I have to tell you that but super impressed brother. Too many trainers try to show how much control they have too quick you clearly have confidence and KNOWLEDGE (can’t out Bulldog a Bulldog best quote). It’s like watching some young gun talk shit in a press conference before a big Ppv fight and the veteran fighter just waiting and being patient for the real moment. Super impressed man refreshing to see a REAL trainer
I have a nearly 2 year old Olde English Bulldogge and Larry's videos have been amazingly helpful for training him. The ecollar stuff was especially very useful.
Great looking dog and I laughed my butt off when I saw the dog trying to assert himself with you at the beginning. Time Patience and Repetition will build good habits.
Just watching in the first minute lol. What a beauty he is. Love the size, and whole appearance. Reminds me of a puppy's first time or first few times not being use to a leash. Funny to see a big horse like this reacting to a leash that way. Having lost the best dog I've ever had (APBT/French Mastiff - 75/25% cross), @11 to Nerve Degen and Cancer this past July, I'm just about ready to try and fill the open position with another big guy like this. Have interest in the American Bulldog types, as one of a few I'll be considering. Thanks for the clip, I'll watch the rest of this, and check your others to see if I might learn something.
My Alapaha Blue Bulldog is one of the smartest dogs I’ve ever worked with. Your training system seems to work well. My dog is 7 months old and is big ,powerful and strong willed . He is harder to train in basics than a pit bull. Its his strong will and intelligence that needs refining.
I just lost my blue blooded American bulldog last month, he was a power house, 125 pounds, he was never trained, but we had a tight bond, I bottle fed him at 4 weeks old, never had to leash him, would never go more then 15 feet from me, always on gard, the best dog I have ever had the pleasure of being part of my life!
Oh my gosh!!! Your terminology and explanations had me ROFLMAO!!! 💕 💕 💕 Also, If it was me..... gal or guy, I'd reposition the food pouch to my side. 😉😉😉
larry, if the owners allow, please keep posting what you do. I'm not struggling with my big rottie/shepherd personally but I love to watch you working with dogs. its just to nice to see
I love your videos and thank you for explaining so well. I am getting a new pit bull puppy and have been watch a ton of your videos to make sure i do a good job of teaching the dog and myself correctly. One question i have is you stated that you blew up at Mango and Buddy over coming to Diesel's pen. What does that mean and what does it look like?
It meant that he understood his dogs would be outclassed very quickly if things went wrong. The Alapaha is Not a normal dog. It, in fact, is not a pet breed. You have to be an SS tier owner/handler to even Think of owning one.
The owners are very fortunate that they brought this dog to you did when they did. I think he was on a potentially dangerous path. Please keep this goldmine of content coming.
They Are very fortunate. As you can see, even a pet-level Alapaha is nearly insurmountable. Trust. It gets Way, WAY worse. There is a damn good reason you never hear of them outside of the rural south. They are purpose built hog dogs, yall. NOT pets.
This is good! Thank you for doing this video. Please keep posting. This is how we learn. My guy Brutus he's a rott doesn't like a leash either. I get a similar reaction when trying to work with him on leash. I know it is completely my fault. I mostly worked off leash with him. No steering wheel. He is great off leash. He listens to commands I can take this dog anywhere but he's not great on leash. He hates the corrections. Which is not even a tap. I think he's a little bit of a sis. Lol!! No really , i think it annoys him. I have 2 pups I'm making sure get leash time so I don't have this issue when they are big. Easier to teach leash work young.
What a gorgeous yard and home!! That dog barking in the background sounds identical to my neighbors dog that I walk. What breed is barking? Beautiful training
Thank God you have him Larry! At different points his body language just screamed ticking time bomb. The way he tenses up, freezes and locks his eyes on you. Jeez....praying for you and Diesel's family.
We adopted an 11 month old 1/2 Alapaha Blue Blood (Dam) and English Bulldog (Sire) from my son, who had issues with Chewy and his other dogs. I was a little worried since we also had an English Bulldog that was 10 at the time. There was some issues in the beginning, however after doing some research I found one thing that help was for my wife and I to take both on walks together. The Idea behind this was to start introducing our new member as part of the pack. After only a few walks we no longer had any issues with Chewy being aggressive towards Mack. One thing for sure is if your going to own a Alapaha Bulldog you must be consistent in your training, they DO NOT respond to physical discipline, they are strong willed and very smart. If you take the time to train them properly you'll have a wonderful dog and great protector of ones household.
Crazy how this video got me interested in this breed I’m so saddened by Diesel’s passing so beautiful and strong Im honored to have a grand son of his Luba blue 11 week old puppy
Larry these are great video's for owners that want bvb to try training there on dogs learn how to read what they are thinkjng that could or not be sings of attitudes..
