I've watched many of your vids on the boob tube RU-vid. You know your stuff, the wood AND the milling. You moved yourself to the 'top shelf' when you brought your daughter on when you ate that elm burl. Can't get mine to care about my milling on the lt-40. Hard to believe I named my son Tom Sawyer!! Cheers to you and your passion!

Awesome. I love sycamore in general, I bought a mixed bundle of 5/4 x 8" and most of it was sycamore. I covered my one main wall in my wood shop with it, part of it was spotted so it was really beautiful stuff I think sycamore is just awesome. I wished when I was out west I've been close enough to stop by you guys but my wife didn't want to go there so. Love watching you mill wood and see the interesting aspects of it. 👍👍

The loader is indeed a monster! Fun to watch how effortlessly it grabs huge logs. The Sycamore is very beautiful. You can check out the boards we have for sale here: www.cookwoods.com/collections/sycamore

Anytime you want to give us the back story on these logs, I for one would be interested to know where they came from and how you obtained them. Great channel!

Bob, that's such a great idea! Thank you for suggesting it.

In the old days as a chaser on a landing we would take breaks under the linkbelt... while it was being operated. It was the safest place to be within his swing radius. Once in a while the operator would grab a pole with the grapples and prod us out form under there. Huffman & Wright Logging, Canyonville, Oregon.

That's such a great story, Bob! LOVE it. Bet you paid attention when the tracks were moving. Don't want to lose your foot!!

Love this lumber and the slabs! Any chance in the future you can show the process of cutting things down even further right down to the pen blanks?

Enjoyed your video. I never knew sycamore was in the maple family. The grain is absolutely gorgeous. Thanks for sharing this video.

Carl, we actually made a mistake with this. English Sycamore is in the Maple family but American Sycamore is not. To be a walking encyclopedia is a challenge! :)

You said Maple and Sycamore trees have a hard time drying "without cracks and stuff." I could see the cracks forming but don't know what the "stuff" is. Can you give us just a brief explanation of what "stuff" is in relation to the drying process?
@CookWoods
@CookWoods 2 года назад
Typically this would mean shrinkage, bowing, twisting, etc. Thanks Wiley! Great to hear from you.

American Sycamore aka “Platanus occidentalis” is not Maple. The European Sycamore “Acer pseudoplatanus” is a species of Maple.
