I made a pie for my step dad years ago. He ate the filling out of it and demonstrated how bad it was by pounding it on the table! I went to my Grandma's house and learned how to make it. The main trick it DO NOT OVER WORK IT! you may get away with rolling it out twice, but after that, you may as well start over. By the way, I never made another pie for my step dad.
Hey sweetie, I lived in an Anchorage for 19 years.. you just reminded me of the great harvest bread company.. I loved it.. My daughter is still living in Wasilla.. My granddaughter lives in Anchorage . she's an RN.. I just love watching your family ...you have such a Loving family.... Love you
Sailor Boy crackers… Mix canned salmon with cream cheese and spread on the top. Or mix canned salmon/smoked salmon and Mayo or cream cheese and spread on cracker. Your boys would love just a slice of cheese on top of a cracker and melted in the microwave! Great with peanut butter & jam on the top. Egg salad, chicken salmon. Also, we fry them in bacon grease. Ideas come from the village of Hydaburg in SE Alaska
I always find it very odd how many countries don't actually use a kettle! When mine stops working it's replaced as soon as Amazon can get it to us - I'm from the UK
In Hawaii we called them saloon pilot crackers. On Sunday we would make cocoa and crackers. Some of us would put butter and sprinkle white sugar. But our pilots came in a 5 gallon tin can. Our happy memories. Thank you for sharing
Funny story…..I worked in a grocery store in Northern BC 🇨🇦 years ago and Elderly native people would come in asking for Hard Tac and I had no idea what they were talking about…..then I learned it was a pilot biscuit ( that was the name on the package it came in…..in clear cellophane wrap ) but looks exactly the same as what you bought 😄
Miss Luna is such a gorgeous cat, the stripe’s on her remind me of my cat Gadsden he was so handsome it’s been years since he passed away but he was a great cat.
I live in Juneau. Our Costco does not have a bakery. Pilot bread is a big deal in southeast too. Fishing villages and boats. Really good with salmon spread or jam.
If you have tenderflake lard there, on the back it has the recipe for making homemade pie crust. It will make 6 pie crusts and they are easy and freaking delicious to make. One of the recipes I do with the pie crust is make homemade cinnamon rolls out of it. That's how my momma and nana made theirs. Blooming delicious.😊
The best pie crusts are made with Tenderflake Lard. Recipe right on the box, use the whole box , mix it all, you get 10 balls and they freeze beautifully. Take two out, thaw it out, roll out, into your pie plate and cook. The best and flakiest pie crust ever. Unfortunately, you can't get in the U.S. - made in Canada. When I lived in the states for a few years, my family would ship a couple of boxes down. I tried everything and nothing and I mean NOTHING beats it.
Take the pilot bread, add butter and crush into your coffee or hot chocolate!! Amazing, we used to eat that as a dessert in Hawaii. We had a factory on the big island that made them!
So interesting to learn about the Pilot Bread. I love when you tell us about Alaskan items. That was quite a haul at Costco. I can't find cauliflower in my area at all. The cookies look yummy but that salad you got looked AMAZING! So jealous. 😉
So I mastered pie crust but just don't wanna anymore, lol. So a friend of Brenda Gantt showed this recipe for a simple easy crust. And I did all my Thanksgiving and just because it's so easy pies and even hand pies. PIE PAW CRUST Make directly in your pie pan!!! 1 1/2 c All Purpose flour 1/4 t salt 2 T sugar Mix Add 1/2 c. Oil 3 1/2 T of whole milk Mix with a utensil then use hands till totally incorporated. Using hands flatten the crust on the bottom and up the sides. And flute the edges. Blind bake if needed otherwise fill and use those directions. Fits a deep dish perfect but has a little excess for shallow pans that I just use on the edges for a nibble of some tasty crust when done. It was suggested and I agree to freeze them before filling or blind baking! Blessings y'all!!
my son when high was a nevada state wrestling champion n nowcoaches wrestling n football at the high school he teaches at. I so happy to see hunter wrestle. please so a bit of a meet if u go I loved going to the meets n all the sporting events my kids did
When my sister used to make her Pies instead of using water she I used concentrated Orange juice And they were so good I used to think she brought them from the shop
Those crackers are popular in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland Canada. There is a town in northern Alberta and the local grocery store was fully of down east foods because the local population was mainly from the east. I really liked the pilot biscuits.
Oh my gosh I haven't had sailor boy crackers since I moved from Alaska they are so good with butter on them eating soups or you can toast them put butter and jam or you can just put butter and pepper yummy yall are so blessed
I was editing this video and just watching it made me want some. I went and grabbed a few as an editing snack. Thanks for the suggestion and I'm glad it took you down memory lane!
First time watcher. Love watching. My youngest daughter lived in Anchorage. She passed away almost 4 years ago from cancer at 46. I came unglued when I saw the Sailor boy Pilot crackers. I love then with a little butter. It's funny I've been looking everywhere here in Washington state. We are about 35 miles north of Seattle. But it's no where. So enjoying. I'm jealous! God bless you and your family. Meŕry Christmas !
I'm so sorry, I just clicked on ur channel, a friend told me about u and ur family. What does ur husband do for a living. U r down to earth this is why ppl love u, that includes me too.
You make me laugh all the time about how you say Mac (Rons) ❤️ i believe it is called a Mac (Roon),I love watching you and your family! It makes me excited to know you and your husband can teach them the Alaska life, You have the sweetest boys ever!
Ugh no its macaron, macaroon is a different cookie. So you have been saying it wrong, for some reason no one seems to get the difference between these two things.
People confuse the two all the time . 😊macaroons are made with sweetened coconut and egg whites, (my favorite ). is barefoot, Contessa’s recipe . Macarons are a fancy French cookie made with almond flour. My kids love them , so many unique flavors and they’re so pretty😊
Macaroons are a mounded cookie with lots of coconut it in, macarons are two thin cookies with a tasty filling between. Both are usually gluten free and due to them sounding so similar many do not understand the difference... the biggest difference is that one is super easy and the other is super easy to mess up. Lol
I guessed $450. Your not alone when it comes to making pie crusts, the ones you got are just as good as home made. Enjoyed your shopping at Costco with all the attention you were getting talking to yourself. he he Give Everett extra kisses back from me, & hugs to all of you from me. Have a nice weekend.
I love the strawberry lemon. We just quit drinking crystal light after the dentist told us it was really bad on teeth🙈we do the true lemon, all natural flavoring😄

If you by just a regular chocolate cake mix and add only the eggs and oil not the water it turns out just like brownies. Add nut, chocolate chips, etc. You want to make it vegan add just apple sauce my sister said.🤗 Oh and don't be offended by my name. It's the names of the two toyger cats I adopted. Lucy and Lucifer. Tried to call them something else but didn't work on🤔🤣
How many vanilla beans would you use for a big bottle? Do you let it sit for 6 months? Do you get your beans from a place you could recommend? I have wanted to try this for years and would be fun to make for gifts at Christmas❤
Good evening! Welcome home guys! As always, enjoy your grocery hauls. Your boys are so helpful. Take care and stay warm. Hafa adai and love from the island of Guam 🌴🌲🎅🤶🌴
