This took a lot of courage, Graeme. First to explore the house and your feelings, to allow yourself to really feel them, and finally to share them with us. Thank you for trusting us to help hold you up a bit. Big, big love to you and your family.

My Dad died when I was 17, had been ill all his life with Crohns, had 5 sons and made it to 57. He was a jeweller and was extremely well known as " the man who can " when nobody else could. He has always been and always will be my greatest hero, a trully inspiring man. And like you I often wish he was here to see the things I do, to help steer me at times, and to meet his 3 Grandchildren. When I want to be close to him, I sit at my bench and begin a new piece of jewellery, something exiting, and I can feel him looking over my shoulder. I am sure your father would be proud of his children. Thanks for the share, it reminded me of my Dad, and that is always a good thing.

All I can say is thank you for sharing this with us. After my grandpa died their farm was sold out of the family and a few years later we got permission from the new owners to stop by and take a look around. When we did the changes to the main house and property actually made my heart hurt. I've not been able to go passed there again since as I prefer to have my memories of how it was in the forefront of my mind. I can't imagine how hard this would have been if it were the house I grew up in.

I was right with you there, Graeme. My childhood home has gone the other way - people bought it, cut down my willow tree, and extended it over the garage and out to the side - so it's in good nick but it's not really where I grew up any more. Like they say, you can never go home again; but you can make a new one and from what I've seen you and Mrs. Hoof GP have made a fine job of doing that.

My family built a second home 2.5 miles from our town home. It was on 22 acres of wood and fields and for fifteen glorious years we lived there from early Spring to late late Fall. Then we all went off to live our lives, the building was flooded, my parents died and the Camp is a ruin now, used for storage. I know how you feel. Like you, my memories are my own, and now that I'm old I can tell you this: The best and biggest thing you can do in your life is to fill your children with happy memories of their own to last a lifetime. You've done well so far; I suspect your parents are proud of you.

I'm in Texas so it's very dry here and almost all of the cattle here walk through the desert Oran the soil that's mixed with Clay, yes we actually have vegetation that grows I'm that type of soil LOL but the fields are very dry and they have some give to them. I lost my father when he was 45. The first time I went to his grave, I cried a horrid sob I've never matched even to this day. The "what if's" were flooding my mind and the cavernous hole he left behind in my life I've yet to find anything with which to fill it. I cried for you today Graeme, You are an endearing soul. Know full well that your father is so so very proud of you, and he feels your love. Of that I've absolutely no doubt. Thank you so much for sharing.

I did the same the first time I visited my grandfathers grave. I was 14, I believe. He died at 38 when my mom was a month old. So I never knew him but the overwhelming sense of lose was so heavy. I believe I cried for my grandma that lost the love of her life, my mom that never had a father, my self that never got to know the amazing man that he was, the loss of the Ukrainian customs and language I would've learned and so much more. I cried so hard I scared my mom but when I finally stopped I felt a sence of peace and connection to him that I'd never felt before.

@@loudmouf9246 Yes. Unlike dogs and cats, large animals like cows and horses absolutely need all four legs. Something minor can cause pain. They can go lame and it risks getting worse, which is when they need to be put down for their own sake.

I guess the positive that comes out of having a diagnosis(im in no way saying cancer is positive btw) is that you have time to tell him how much you love him and be able to say goodbye and everything else you want to say. My sister suddenly passed when i was 14 and I wish i had gotten the chance to say I love you one last time. Get as many hugs in while you can
