Big Sur is absolutely one of a kind. This 90 mile stretch of pacific Coast Hwy extends from San Simeon up to Carmel and is considered one of the most scenic drives in the country if not world. This might be why people visit California.
We only had two days to explore and it really wasn't enough time. There is so much to see and enjoy!
If you plan on staying in the Big South, book ahead, especially in the Summer. Affordable lodging and campsites fill up fast. An alternative is to stay south or north of the 90 miles of rugged coast and make it a day trip. San Simeon State park or any of the hotels in the Cambria could be an option in the south or toward Carmel or Monterey in the north. Links below to a few options.
