So now I can finally achieve my dream of creating a Frankenstein Monster Jam featuring 8 tracks of stacked Supersaws an 808 style BD a 303 baseline and some Sidstation Chiptune glitch with a little HH thrown in. My wife will be so excited to hear it.
@@iantuludbecause I think at this point @AudioPilz has become the inner monologue synth voice in us all. It’s inescapable and honestly I’m totally ok with that.
When I first saw Euclidian I thought, oh neat but somewhat limited, then you show it off as a second savable sequence layer!? AWESOME. And the HH lab stuff is like... wild sound design laboratory. Thank you Dave!
@@Davemech following that idea, I plocked a noise waveform on the sy chip on euclidian sequence, so the 'B' section switches to a noise snare type variation, so much fun!
Hey Dave, great stuff as usual. A curiosity. At 9:11 and in the final jam your screen shows the Reverb page with some white highlight boxes behind the parameters name and values, almost as if it was p-locked (which can't be done as far as I know). I have never sen it before. What is that?
Hey thanks! I set reverb to global mode. In the settings there's a global fx menu where you can choose to set certain parts of the FX block and the send FX as global so they don't change when switching patterns. Pretty neat :)
Great video! Very happy to have SY Chip (especially for dialing up easy 303 sounds). Happy to have the update after all this time but really wished we could have got an arp and the ctrl all selection functionality that the DTII has. Also happy to see they quietly added scale quantized note step-locking.
man oh man I needed a good excuse to get back into sound design....been focusing on performance wayyy too much. feel like I still don't really know the syntakt that well after 10 months of gigging with it....thanks as always, Dave!
HOLY PAGE LOOPING OH MY GOD dude live sets are always annoying because you're not always on the "1" during the whole performance. the "1" changes all the time. so sometimes my "1" is on page 3 step 9 and I have a hard time getting to that sequence. Not anymore. holy shit. i don't need new machines but I NEEDED THIS
Awesome walk-through. I would love to see more of your breakdown on the track you put together it sounds great! Will you be updating the course with the latest improvements? I didn't see quantized retrigs in the update unfortunately.
Thanks man ❤️ might do a walkthrough of this track as well. Want to create a bunch of walkthroughs for syntakt in the near future. First have to finish another big project though. I will add a few extra videos in the ST course for euclidean mode for example. First need to finish the DT II course :)
Elektron does an outstanding job of intuitive UX on these boxes. What I want next is simple undo/redo. I alwayd forget to func+yes before I make changes. It seems like a simple feature to develop, turn on undo/redo and it simply does a func+yes in the background after any changes are made. I know there is some hidden complexity I know I don't know, but it has to be possible if the Roland MC707, and SP404 MKII (I think) can do it.
Func yes plus revert works indeed. You can also copy anything to get sort of an undo. When you copy paste something you can repeat the paste action to undo the paste. Same works for clear. 👍🏻 And save copies of projects so you can easily revert patterns and such of you less something up. Undo would be nice but it eats RAM and not a lot of that in the digi series
Thks Dave for the vid !! But kinda sad to not see (unless it is) midi parameter renaming and the 16 levels and retrig stuff , kits ect ... still exellent , have ya tried overbdige ? do we have to update it also (it's stable for me , kinda scare to update it before a project start (next week)
I feel like I should be excited. I guess it’s just not what I was personally wanting out of Syntakt/Elektron. The page loop is a step in the right direction if it can be implemented in song mode but what I would like is the ability to offset the start of patterns in song mode so you could create loops from anywhere within the 4 bars of the pattern. It would be a powerful feature.
Track 9 is the kick and a sub in between both made from BD acoustic. Track 10 contains that groovy bassline. Made with the new chip machine. Track 10 is the clap/snare made from the new SD acoustic and the little melody you hear every now and then is on that tracks as well. Also made with SD acoustic. That track is used in the break down for the extra Arp like melodic structure made with SY chip. Cheers
Dave, since you have both the Rytm and the Syntakt: did you notice a difference in sound quality for the same Machines on different... um... machines? I have the Syntakt (and took your course, was great!) and I still think it sounds a bit cold-ish overall, but don't get that feeling from hearing other people's Rytm. Basically, I'd like to know whether I'm imagining things or if the ST does sound different overall. Thanks for the video!
Cheers ! Hmm tough to say nice never done a direct comparison. But I'm fairly certain they will sound slightly different. To me syntakt doesn't sound that cold but it's just that the digital machines, it left fairly vanilla and out of the FX block , can make the over sound quite digital. If you try and create a groove like this one with just the analog side, it's all warmth imho. Certainly when adding the FX block.
Hi there , have done the Update and maybe an issue on the euclidean page to set the length . On the screen there is N/A and cant set the length ,only with the page Button as usual . Any idea? Thanks
@@svenwehrheim7188 Darn that sucks. Have you tried saving a copy of that project and see if that solves it? Most of the time I al;ways save copies of projects (in general I do that a lot) before updating so I can always go back and reinstall the firmware, or just see if a previous version does work. Hope this helps
I like the Acoustic additions. There's this one BAR I've been afraid to perform bcus they prefer LIVE bands (Beach Boys and Steely Dan types) ... but i think a nice Acoustic Drum might sway them to let me do sumthin for them. MAybe even with a Guitar? Who knows?
Sounds like a plan ! I've been able to create a fairly convincing funky guitar on the syntakt as well ao you might want to through that in there as well
Euclidean mode has always gone over my head. Can't figure out what it does that simply entering the steps in manually couldn't do. Is it just a matter of being faster?
It's a bit more generative. You can definitely take the same approach manually , but the mode makes it much easier. There's also two generators with a boolean operator that will make those two trig generators interact so that can generate even more happy accidents as it were. It's worth exploring. Might want to check the section in the video as I explain a couple more things why the mode is really great.
@@hillbilly8621 I have one 😁 Take some samples from syntakt to use these sounds in a faster way and through compressor. And to free syntakt machines too.
ohhh come on Elektron... :( where is control all setup, note quantization (specially for use with euclidian) and a chorus for god sake..!! its not that hard isn't it? I mean we can wait for another month or so for those essential basic utility stuff after DT2 "revolution" isn't it??? sorry but disappointed. :( still thinking about to sell my ST for a DT2 🤷🏻♂ PLEASE KEEP THAT OS AS BETA! 🙏 btw thanks for the quick snakepit man ;)
Aww come on. This is a great update. Can't expect to get everything al te boxes have. It's an age old discussion and I kinda feel for elektron since they can never win. When these machines came to rytm people were dreaming of having them on ST, now they are here plus other goodies and its stil not enough. Im glad with the update. But was already happy with ST as is so everything new is just a bonus for me :) And cheers, happy to share these things. 🙏
@@Davemech don't get me wrong Dave but it seems to me that they were in a rush for this update a bit. I mean at least a control all feature from the DT2 is a must have for all Digis. and note quantization is not a rocket science to implement to ST imho. I was not expecting completely new machines or crazy FX from analog heat + FX either.. I'm realistic :) Beside that, of course its a huge update for ST and i'm grateful🙏 best.
@@orkunbagatur5055Rocket science it is not but DT2 firmware is build on a completely new platform (rust) so it's not a matter of simply porting features from dt2 to syntakt unfortunately
What a weak video. 25 min for such a small update. Really disapointing. Everyone who bought the syntakt wants syntakt stuff. Like new digital machines. Syntaktbonly stuff.
Hmz. To each their own. I liked ST as it was. This is just gravy. It's 25 minutes because there's a jam at the end. You know it takes time and effort to make these things and share them for free ? Not really nice to shit on someone like this. Ciao
Mmm as a Syntakt owner from day one, I DO certainly want more digital machines, AND I’m also very happy to see this added functionality. 4 new machines, sequencer updates, page looping were all things I missed on the Syntakt. By that same logic, would you be upset if the Syntakt suddenly got Stereo Sampling or an Arpeggiator? I suspect not.
Disappointing?! Fuck me. You’re probably going to spend the rest of your life feeling disappointed then, not to mention disappointing everyone around you. Brilliant video, Dave.
