Actually, Penn State didn't make the playoff in 2016, because they had two losses... period! Ohio State only had one loss. In 2017, Ohio State and USC won their conferences, but Alabama got in over them, because they only had one loss, while Ohio State and USC had two losses. No 2-loss team has ever made the playoff, but when it happens, it'll be an SEC team.
One of the best penn state teams ever. They didn’t win the rose bowl or a nat’l championship but they weren’t even supposed to beat Ohio state let alone be big ten champs. Brings a tear to my eyes I’m glad I got to watch that season! 🦁🔵⚪️

we beat a team you lost to 49-10. we destroyed oklahoma, our only loss was a last second field goal, a game in which ohio state dominated in stats. we got destroyed by clemson, yet you couldnt even beat usc. every year someone will get destroyed in the playoffs. they dont pick the playoff teams after the playoffs.

welp 6 yrs later and we did win the rose bowl last season and with the playoffs being expand to the top 12 teams in 2024 penn state has a MUCH better shot at sniffing a natty than any of the previous seasons... plus we have a 5 star top QB recruit with drew allar who might just dethrone trace as the best QB to play in the blue and white. but that's just hindsight for ya i guess
