The carbide bit looks to me the best way to remove spot welds. That’s the best tip I’ve seen in a while. Glad I found this channel. Looks like a lot of great builds going on!

Thoroughly appreciate this video. Very detailed and breaks everything down for us guys/gals who don't do this kind of stuff on the regular. When I get my gen 1 C10, I want a big window, but always thought if I end up with a small, then so be it. Your video gives me confidence that I can do the conversion. Great content!!

This is one man's way of doing this job. It' NOT a "Tutorial". It was never advertised as such! Also, the whiners below, bitching about the amount of tooling involved is simply ridiculous! When people don't like something that they see someone else do, they have the option of taking the time to show an alternate method, but they NEVER DO! They just bitch about it, and get mad because their "shop" (the shed behind their mobile home) has nothing but home-made tools, zip ties, and safety wire, and they can't make a video with a flip phone. Damn.... they get pretty bitter, over this, Man!

Personally after watching, I do recommend the big back window for self explanatory reasons. Nice look but more so, saving a cab from its own demise as it rots away from tin worm dust. I am going to see if you have changed a cab top because of around the windshield is most likely pin holes just waiting to be rain holes and a very sad looking restro modification. Yes I did subscribe

Vince Davis sounds about right. Keep track of the time it takes you and times it by $75/hr (average). Let me know what that turns out to be 😎

Just curious, why do you not use a spot weld cutter? Too difficult to tell when you’ve cut though the first sheet? I have ak😂ays used them, but thinking about trying your method and was wondering what you have found to be the pros and cons of each. Thanks, and loved the videos. All of them 👍

OK FYI, the 415 will peal around every place you weld and then will hold moisture between it and the panel...I am speaking from experience. Only P O R after all the welding is done and you took to much of the rust off the panel for it to bond correctly.

Awesome video. I just bought a 65 c10 with a really nice paint job. If I install a big window will it ruin the paint around trim?

Hey Levi, great video. Do you have a link/source for that burr bit you used on the spot welds? Would like to get one. Much better option than drill bits. Thanks!

I don't know but small back windows are unique. My dad is a body man for over 50 years he would just say you're Butcherizing it!!! I have a 1967 to 72 and yes it has a Small Back Window combination with a '90s stepside box needless to say this is a Johnny Cash truck one piece at a time.
@HammerFabOfficial
@HammerFabOfficial 3 года назад
Todd Trcka I would consider putting that 90’s box on there “butcherizing” lol. Just sayin.
@INFIDEL82AA
@INFIDEL82AA Год назад
@@HammerFabOfficial Absolutely... and I'll bet that the quality of work for that 90's box is nowhere near the level of what Hammer Fab would do. I mean, the two jobs are apples and oranges. The large rear window on the 66 GMC WAS an actual option for the year. However, the 67-72 didn't offer a 90's step-side bed, and it was probably mounted with zip ties and safety wire. Either way, no educated individual would use the term "Butcher" when describing your work. Based upon that dude's comment, I can almost picture a Beavis and Butthead father/son duo.
@tonynewman777

I like your humor and most definitely the smaller window is more desirable to me there's more privacy... I actually had a 66 short bed Fleetside small window straight 6 no AC now that's tough in Texas however was just fine because of the vents on the floor inside windows I miss that truck and would like to have that body style again and absolutely no big window... I looked to see if somebody actually had an opposite opinion even after clicking and watching someone butcher-Rising it😂 there's nothing wrong with humor and the way Southern folks talk... most people are kind and don't care where you from as long as they don't try to shithole or make our country a third world. It seems they have destroyed our childhood Americana every way that they can I pray it gets restored including the good book people used to live by still do mostly I believe in the southern states.

from my experience POR15 wasn't the best choice for that inner cab. I would have used a rust reformer and that would have been plenty of protection. If you wanted a step further you could do a rust reformer (turns the rust into a black protective polymeric coating), and an etch or epoxy primer (they make them in rattle cans). POR15 is expensive and can peal when you don't have much rust. I almost don't see any point in POR15 in a restoration, it is more a patch (to give you time) for when you don't want to do a proper repair. Other than that this was an awesome tutorial.

Does no one use an air chisel to cut metal anymore?
@INFIDEL82AA
@INFIDEL82AA Год назад
Why? There are far better tools to do the job, that don't turn metal into a jagged mess. Air chisels aren't made for cutting metal. Why would you ask that?
@invisableobserver
@invisableobserver Год назад
Why?, the small window is so much better, it gives privacy and shields from harsh sunlight & electromagnetic radiation, it took me 8 months to find a long bed, small window C10, most customs came with the small window.

you ever heard of the spot weld drill bit? I can do this entire job with a quarter of the tools you have plus it'd cost me thousands less. a drill, a wire wheel, a spot weld drill bit, a grinder with cutting disk and I'm done. you guys are just trying flew your tool muscles. look at the tools I have and I don't need 3/4th of them. what a joke.
